A Heaping Helping of Trouble is the first episode of season 6, Pirates of Leviathan.
Six pirates are brought together over a powerful artifact, the Daughter of Storms. Marcid the Typhoon and his boss, Langley Sheffield-Harrington of the Crescent Moon Trading Company are after this artifact, which they find has already been collected by Myrtle, a priestess of Umberlee. They purchase it from her for a truly exorbitant amount of money. Trixie, an employee at the Gold Gardens and best friend of singer Barbarella Sasparilla Gainglynn, or "Bob", is kidnapped and brought to an old foundry along with the artifact. Cheese, a young necromancer, happens upon the scene and successfully escapes with the artifact in tow. He runs to the Bilge, where he meets Jack Brakkow, a cursed ratfolk who recognizes the statue from when his ship sank. Meanwhile, Bob travels to Crow's Keep and recruits Sunny Biscotto, a young paladin of Jane Wren for help in finding Trixie. They visit Myrtle in pursuit of a clue left behind in Trixie's room, which Myrtle identifies as originating from the Crescent Moon Trading Company. The three of them find Marcid in the Bilge, where he followed Cheese using placing Hunter's Mark. After bursting through the wall of Jack's home, Marcid knocks Cheese unconscious.
Introduction[]
"We indeed are setting forth on an adventure, not just an adventure, a voyage. On the far seas and for the first time in Dimension 20 history, we are returning to a world, but through a different window. For indeed, in the world of Spyre. A land of myth and legend and high fantasy. We are abandoning the far off land of Solace and its adventuring academies and instead flying over the vast Celestine sea. Night and stars fade as the sun rises over the cresting waves. Lighting the sky with red and orange, blue. As gulls caw. Gulls far out on the open seas, where could they nest? And we see over the waves, the cresting mammoth, the Leviathan."
"A behemoth city of shipwrecks lashed together to and fro. Miles of wood and spires and masts and rigging and sails. The gulls fly overhead, as we see flying Aarakocra with bandannas and pirate- pirate clothing, gold jewelry, clanging around them, rigging and lashing things together up on the vast Helm. The massive palace of the pirate king, whose head is now stuck with a dagger to the central mast in the, in Galleyard. In the city square. We see deep below, the Maelstrom’s Maw. The giant mouth of the city swallowing up wreckage and captured ships to tear apart for spare parts. And we see a metropolis more than a million pirates call this city home, Leviathan. The jewel of the sea. The greatest marketplace for stolen goods in all of the world of Spyre and a home for all the hearties in the wide, wide sea."
Synopsis[]
In the office of the Crescent Moon Trading Company, we see Mr. Langley Sheffield Harrington at his desk with a family of kenku standing on the other side. Looming behind him is a muscular bugbear, Marcid the Typhoon. Langley tells the kenku family that because their home burned down in an "act of God", the policy will pay to the trading company. The kenku father asks if there is no recompense for the family. Langley asks Marcid if he feels the company should be forced to buy a new home for the family. Marcid replies that they would go broke if they did that. Langley then eats some expensive chocolate. Marcid tells the family that they should memorize the phrases, "Alms for the poor" and "No sir, I didn't just filch your coin purse". The kenku wife then says that she understands they don't have to help them, but they don't have to disrespect them either. Marcid tells her that he almost drowned and came up with nothing but his trident, but he rebuilt it with the generosity of Langley. The kenku father then convinces the mother to leave. Lieutenant Mardres enters the room and begins to say something to Langley, but then pauses. He continues in much more vague terms, saying only that they passed the site two hours ago and came up blank. Whatever they were looking for is gone. Marcid tells them they can speak plainly with him, he'd like to be of some assistance if he can. Langley laughs and tells him that there was an object on the ocean floor of great importance to them, Leviathan would have passed over it early in the morning. When they sent operatives to retrieve it, it was not there. They suspect that someone in the city got to it first. Langley asks Marcid if he knows anyone trustworthy in undersea acquisition. Marcid says he knows someone he's worked well with in the past. Langley and Marcid head to meet his contact, while Lieutenant Mardres has some business to attend to at the Gold Gardens. Marcid and Langley head down towards Jetsam, the part of Leviathan that is underwater. Marcid's trident, Alycon, begins to panic, knowing that there is a possibility that they will drown. Marcid remarks that she is an object and technically can't drown. As they approach the entrance to Jetsam, the group is given potions of water breathing.
Within Jetsam, there is a temple to the dark goddess Umberlee, decorated with relics and debris from shipwrecks. An elegant merfolk swims amongst the flotsam, Mrytle.
