Arianwen Abernant is Adaine Abernant's mother and a former professor at Hudol College.
Featured Episodes[]
Description[]
Arianwen works as a professor at the distinguished magic academy, Hudol College. Like her husband, Angwyn, she is very partial to their eldest daughter, Aelwyn, and often criticizes their youngest daughter, Adaine, in defense of Aelwyn.
Towards the end of Fantasy High, Arianwen seems to show a little regret for how she treated her daughter, Adaine, whereas Angwyn does not.
Freshman Year[]
The Beginning Begins[]
Arianwen is first introduced as the whole Abernant family sits around the breakfast table in their home before Adaine's first day of freshman year at Aguefort Adventuring Academy. She is looking over her curriculum for the day.
She and Angwyn are rather indifferent when Adaine casts Ray of Sickness on her sister during their argument, though they naturally take Aelwyn's side in the matter. Arianwen asks Adaine why she can't get along with her sister, and Adaine responds by asking why she never asks Aelwyn that. Arianwen avoids answering and says she's too busy with her curriculum to examine the issue.
On their way out the door, Arianwen offers the family car for Aelwyn to drive to school, but assumes there's a bus to Aguefort, leaving Adaine to find her own way to school.
After the Afterlife[]
Arianwen and Angwyn show up to Aguefort Adventuring Academy to pick Adaine up after the battle with Doreen and the Corn Ooze. She gets out of the car, with her hand up covering the side of her face, and explains that Angwyn doesn't want to get out of the car and be seen. Fed up with her parents, Adaine doesn't say anything to them for the rest of the night. The ride home is quiet.
Family in Flames[]
As Adaine passes her house before the final fight in the school gymnasium, she finds it completely leveled. She detects the remnants of a powerful teleportation spell, indicating that her family has fled to Fallinel.
Prompocalypse Part 2[]
It is revealed later in the Fantasy High: Sophomore Year campaign that it was Arianwen who stole the Crown of the Nightmare King from Arthur Aguefort's office the night of Prom, though the Bad Kids were unaware of this at the time.
Arianwen in the Forest of the Nightmare King.
Sophomore Year[]
During her time in Fallinel, she did a lot of undercover research on the Unnamed Goddess of Sylvaire. This research was forbidden and therefore confiscated and locked in the vault at Calethriel Tower sometime before the Abernants moved to live in Solace.
She worked out a deal with the Elven government that if she could bring the crown of the Nightmare King back to Fallinel, they would release Aelwyn and return their family to some status. However, the elves did not honor that. She then researched people outside of Fallinel who understood curse-breaking, finding among them Garthy O'Brien.
Since the crown is a powerful talisman, she is put under a terrible curse for having handled it. She travels to Leviathan and speaks to Garthy, who lifts it for her. This allows her to handle the crown more freely, and Garthy would not have done it had they known exactly what the curse was. She departs from Leviathan to Arborly, on the edge of the Forest of the Nightmare King, though the manifest says Fallinel, in order to throw the Bad Kids off her tail.
In Arborly, she meets up with Aelwyn, and together they perform the ritual that will grant them access into the Forest of the Nightmare King. They kill one of the residents of Arborly, Killian, in their hotel room at the top of the Owl and the Harp and enter the forest, just before the Bad Kids arrive at Holly Hill. The two of them work with Kalina to reach the center of the forest with the crown.
After the bad kids foil her plan to bring back the nightmare king, the reborn god of mystery Casandra takes away her magic forever. She was last seen being chased by Vhands (a van with hands instead of wheels).
Junior Year[]
Arianwen is mentioned a few times in Junior Year, mainly referencing her fate at the end of Sophomore Year and how her still being alive impacts Adaine and Aelwyn in Elmville.
Ragenarok (Part 2)[]
At the end of Junior Year, Adaine and Aelwyn receive a letter from the Court of Stars, addressed to the Elven Oracle. The letter says that there have been strange goings on in the forest of Sylvaire, and a 'powerful wizard' the Court of Stars believe is at work in that place. It is strongly implied, especially through Adaine and Aelwyn's reactions and deciding they'll "get her", that this wizard is Arianwen.
Trivia[]
