Description[]
Arthur is a human wizard with very dark skin and a long white beard that goes past his waist. He wears a purple corduroy suit and a monocle, and he carries an umbrella. He wears a watch fob on a chain.
He is very chaotic in everything he does but does appear to be very wise and knowing, as he has lived for hundreds of years. He has written a memoir titled, Abracadabra, Look at Me Now: My Life in Magic, which is kept in the restricted section of the library due to its "spicy" contents. He's very skilled in chronomancy and often experiments with the limits of his magic, usually at the cost of his own well-being. Despite his erratic nature, he's very protective of his students and has an automatic warning spell set up to assist anyone who may invoke his name. When his students ask for it, he's more than happy to help, going so far as to attempt to start a war in order to break them out of elf jail.
Background[]
"You see Arthur Aguefort. A long, white wizard's beard, purple suit, holding his walking stick. An elderly Black man with a twinkle in his eye and a look of ultimate mischief and wonder at a world where anything is possible." ― Brennan Lee Mulligan
When he was young, Arthur Aguefort was the secretary on the very first Council of Chosen and the paramour of the elven oracle Eleminthindriel. When Kalvaxus was defeated, Aguefort was selected to bind him and prevent him from rising to power again. In the hopes that he would learn the error of his ways, he was transformed into a dragonborn and placed to serve as Vice Principal of the Aguefort Adventuring Academy, so that Aguefort could watch over him, and so that he could help teach the future generations of heroes.
Over 300 years prior to the start of Fantasy High, Aguefort slept with a phoenix and conceived a daughter, Ayda Aguefort. Over the following years, Ayda would be reborn like her phoenix mother, each time forgetting her past lives but learning through notes she left behind. One such life decided to cut herself off from her past. She destroyed all her notes and told Aguefort not to contact her again, a request that he respected for hundreds of years. He's forgotten a lot of birthdays.
He made friends with Tectonya Karkovnya, but was bummed because he felt she was cooler than him.
At some point between the start of Fantasy High and the affair between Sandra Lynn and Gorthalax, He trapped Gorthalax in a gem under the Mithril Factory.
Freshman Year[]
The Beginning Begins[]
Arthur Aguefort is first introduced at an assembly on the first day of school. He gives a long speech (see Quotes below) welcoming the new freshman school then disappears into light. At the end of the day, he announces The Day of Fellowship; students get the rest of the afternoon to find their first adventuring parties. He explains that this is a critical process in which they will be working together for the rest of their time at the Academy. Vice Principal Goldenhoard interrupts to say that those who have detention are an exception and are expected to show up to detention.
Clash of the Corn Cuties[]
During the battle against Doreen and the Corn Ooze & Corn Cuties, Gorgug Thistlespring dies permanently after failing his death saving throws. Riz Gukgak sprints out of the cafeteria in search of a cleric who can Revivify him, and notices Aguefort in his office. He explains the situation, and they rush back to the cafeteria. When they return, he casts a spell that allows Kristen Applebees advantage on her last saving throw. Unfortunately, she still fails, and she dies.
Aguefort gives a solemn speech on death (ignoring Riz's insistence that he do something) and pulls the last phoenix egg out of his coat, a swirling ball of fire surrounded by red feathers. As he pulls out a gun and shoots Mr. Gibbons in the head, then himself, Gorgug and Kristen are brought back to life, and the Bad Kids are all healed back up to full health.
After the Afterlife[]
When Kristen arrives in Heaven, Aguefort is there behind her, as reassurance. He climbs into her backpack and asks her to just walk right through, insisting that things will work themselves out. As Kristen walks through the gates and is greeted by Helio with a hug, Aguefort slips out of her backpack. He shushes her with a wink and sprints into Heaven as fast as he can.
The party also discovers that Aguefort was being poisoned by Johnny Spells through his tea.
Cool Kids, Cold Case[]
The Bad Kids find out that Aguefort was the paramour to the past Elven Oracle.
Family in Flames[]
The Bad Kids discover Aguefort was the one who bound Kalvaxus to become Goldenhoard.
Prompocalypse Part 2[]
During Prompocalypse, when Kristen Applebees goes to heaven, the angels tell her that Sol wants to talk to her and politely tell her to treat him nicely and with respect as he is their creator. When Kristen goes into the room, she finds Aguefort with his pants down. We find out that Arthur has knocked out Sol for a long time, running heaven behind the scenes, and has been shitting in the corner for weeks. Arthur explains that it was too hot in the room as Sol is the sun so he took off his pants. Arthur then directs Kristen to another room, grey and sticking out of the golden office like a sore thumb, where she creates her god. Kristen then sneaks Arthur out of heaven in her own backpack, but not before Arthur shoots one of the angels and tells her to make a run for it.
Kristen and Arthur have a quick discussion, asking her what was the greatest magic of all, to which she replies is friendship. Arthur gets angry and rants that "friendship is not magic," saying "if a mother and her child gets iced in an alleyway, was the problem them not loving each other enough?" and that "Friendship is Friendship. Magic is Magic." Kristen makes a couple more guesses but he says that "The greatest magic of all, is Chronomancy," which is what he said on the first day and his watch on Kristen's dog tags is the key. They both appear alive in the gym and Arthur announces to everyone that he is alive. Mr. Gibbons appears and possesses Aguefort making him occupied for the rest of the fight. After the fight, Aguefort promotes Gilear to vice principal without knowing who he is, he freezes Angela Worrel in a block of ice and brainwashes the rest of the police force to ignore the illegal stuff everyone at this school has been doing and he also reveals that he has a phoenix whom he has sex with and that's how he got the phoenix egg in Episode 2. Afterwards, he reveals how he basically manipulated the wording of the prophecy in order to get what he wanted. He then continues to be the school's principal for the rest of the year. At the end of the year he approaches The Bad Kids and asks them to help him get the Nightmare King's crown back after it was stolen from his office.
Fantasy High LIVE in Brooklyn[]
Aguefort steps out from behind a curtain onstage in the theater building, where he had been sleeping. The noise of the hammering soothes him and helps him go into deep REM sleep. When Adaine tells him that they're thinking of joining the theater department, he makes fun of it, saying that, even though some of the most accomplished illusionists were theater major, "everyone involved was wasting their time", as the only worthwhile school of magic is (say it with me) Chronomancy. He inquires as to whom his students intend to murder that day, and then disappears back into the curtains, but not before flaming Gorgug for trying to tell him how to run his school.
He reappears after the battle with Occularia, Queen of Sight and congratulates the Bad Kids on another murder well done commenting "it can barely be a first day at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy without some kind of murder happening".
Sophomore Year[]
Sophomores Start[]
Aguefort poofs into existence in front of The Bad Kids and showers them with Gold, announcing that 20,000 Gold Pieces from Kalvaxus's KVX Bank Horde have been transferred to them, but also warns them of the curses associated with coins from a Dragon's Horde. He reverses time to catch a quip from Adaine, then informs the party that the Crown of the Nightmare King that was being kept in his office has gone missing, and that retrieving the crown will equate to 60% of their grade this semester. He also fires Gilear from the role of Vice Principal so that he may accompany the Bad Kids as a Hireling.
The Friendship Section[]
He projects a screen across the windshield of the Hangvan to inform the Bad Kids that Lydia Barkrock's home has been destroyed, but Lydia herself is safe. When shown a photo of Kalina, he notes that he is unable to see her.
Fallinel (Dimension 20 LIVE)[]
While imprisoned in Fallinel, Adaine Abernant declares herself to be an underaged student of the Aguefort Adventuring Academy. This triggers an illusory pre-recorded message from Arthur Aguefort, who asserts the diplomatic protection of students both by himself and by the laws of Solace and declares that if any harm comes to his students, or if his students are not immediately released, "ruin will be brought down on your heads, ninefold". After Kir selects the "no" option (choosing, as Aguefort states it, not to avert her doom), the episode ends.
The Dangerous Mind of Aelwyn Abernant[]
Directly following the events of the previous episode, time freezes around Adaine and Aguefort appears through a portal. After a brief discussion, he climbs through the portal and leaps from the window of the tower where Adaine is being held. He grows into a three hundred foot giant of himself and grasps the sun in his hand, siphoning the energy of the sun into his veins. Aguefort declares war against the elves of Fallinel, summons an army of terra-cotta Arthur Agueforts forward, and charges to the north with his army away from Calethriel Tower, dragging the sun across the sky with him.
He makes it about 50 miles north of the tower before magic itself objects to what he is doing and he is forced to retreat, teleporting back to Solace as his terracotta army collapses. He later contacts Kristen Applebees from his office, bandaged and covered in blood, and explains what happened and that the Solace government is "really mad" at him.
Revelations & Revivifications[]
While scrying on Kalina, Adaine Abernant briefly sees Arthur Aguefort in a council meeting with an elven individual in light blue robes. It is also mentioned that his actions caused funding for the school to drop substantially.
Daddies & Demons[]
He is contacted by Adaine Abernant and they discuss the possibility of the coin given to Kalvaxus by the Nightmare King spreading a curse to the rest of his horde. He is later contacted on his crystal by Gorgug Thistlespring and discusses his relationship with Ayda, as well as congratulating Gorgug on doing the right thing in speaking to Zelda, having been at the party she was at, disguised as an owl, to ensure the safety of his students. He lends Gorgug his watch for seven days.
Spring Break! I Believe In You! (Part 2)[]
Aguefort appears near the end of the episode to make up with Ayda and gives her a key that will allow her to move more easily between Compass Points Library and Mordred Manor. He collects the crown of the Nightmare King and goes back in time to stop himself from trying to destroy Fallinel, replacing it all with illusions instead. The Bad Kids are awarded an A on their assignment, and he agrees to help Aelwyn Abernant secure general amnesty from Solace.
After Riz speaks the name of the Night Yorb one too many times and summons it into the world, Aguefort appears once more - this time in flippers, a snorkel, and an inner tube - and asks the Bad Kids if they've thought about their junior year project.
The Seven[]
Party of Seven[]
The Seven Maidens Are called Into the principal's office at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy and Arthur Aguefort poofs into existence in front of them, joyfully announcing that at the end of the year, their adventuring party will be broken up.
In or Out[]
Arthur Aguefort reaffirms that at the end of the year, as 4 of the The Maidens are seniors and 3 are juniors, their adventuring party will have to be split up, as the Adventuring Academy is a publicly funded school it is bound by the laws of the Muncipality of Elmville. He expresses disappointment at this fact, describing The Maidens as the model adventuring party, being loyal, greater than the sum of their parts, unhinged and impossibly violent, as well as asserting his contempt for laws of any kind, but is unfortunately not able to do anything about it. He notes that there are other avenues available post-graduation, winking at Antiope Jones and Penny Luckstone. On an insight check, the Maidens see a twinkle in his eye and realize he is hiding something. When called out on this by Sam Nightingale, he turns into a bat and attempts to flee, only for Sam to cast Lightning Lure on him to stop his escape, which he affirms as the correct thing to do and commends her for her swift action, tearing up and saying he is proud.
He then uses powerful magic to make himself and the maidens unable to be seen or heard by anyone, and creates an illusory version of them, claiming that "even now we may be being watched." He leads them to the Library (giving Gilear a wedgie on the way) and leads them into the hidden section of the forbidden section of the School's Library, down into chambers filed with leather-bound tomes, and to a black grimoire containing the bylaws of the larger Solisian School District. He commands the tome to show him the General Education Development (or GED). He informs the Seven that if they were to complete a class A, B or C quest, as well as obtain a sign-off from the Superintendent of Schools, the 3 juniors would also be able to graduate this year. He then worriedly informs them that the Superintendent of Schools, Tectonya Karkovnya, went missing in ages long past (12 years ago). He then leads them back to his office and clears their schedule for the next two weeks.
I Fucking Love You[]
Aguefort holds a graduation ceremony for the Seven.
Quotes[]
"Welcome, one and all, to another exciting year here at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy, where we train the next generation of adventurers. But what is an adventurer? One who goes on adventures? I say an adventurer is a hero. And what is a hero? A hero is someone with the strength of a heart, courage of spirit, and the might of will to go to strange lands and enact violence on things there. We go to places where there are things that must be destroyed, and we destroy them. Wandering from town to town getting into trouble, meeting in flophouses and taverns. Getting into scrapes with the law and otherwise finding ourselves engaged in all manner of tom-foolery and shenanigans. Sometimes violent, sometimes fatal, yes fatal. A hero is a violent wanderer who enacts their will, bloodily, and with strange magics, upon the world. BUT! Does a hero truly stand alone? *mirthful chuckle* No, the strength of the hero is the strength of the party. And what is a party? A gathering of friends, perhaps with some alcoholic beverages and some fun music, *HAH* *heh* a jape for all of you. A party is a group that comes together to embellish each other's strengths and eradicate each other's weaknesses. A party is composed of those who have sworn themselves to each other, to make themselves greater than the sum of their parts. Perhaps we have flaws within us. Perhaps we don’t cast magic, and we need someone who can cast magic to help us when we need magic. Perhaps we’re very tough, and we can sustain a lot of injuries, but we need somebody who is very good at hurting people there with us as well. Perhaps we need a sneaky person to sneak. Not always, sometimes we don’t need that. But occasionally, in circumstances where you do need one, you really need one, with traps and other things like that. And that is the meaning of party. And party is the meaning of hero. And never forget all of you *slurps* Ugh, that’s bad. Never forget that the greatest magic of all, is Chronomancy. The magic of time. Welcome to your first year, freshmen, at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy." ― Arthur Aguefort
"So in a war, if a mother and her children get fucking iced in an alleyway, was the problem that they didn't love each other enough? That's bullshit. Love is love. Magic is magic." ― Arthur Aguefort
"[Chuckles] My sweet Gorgug... are you gonna tell me my fucking business in my school?" ― Arthur Aguefort
"Remember this, my boy. You are a great hero, but nobody fucks with a wizard. Aguefort out!" ― Arthur Aguefort
"Do you have any idea what happened in Solace when rock music was invented? Do you have any idea what you're talking about? The first electric lute was invented 350 years ago. And when it was first played, every single person of the 225 people in attendance--regardless of gender--became pregnant. Do you understand the power that rock music wields? Do you have any idea?" ― Arthur Aguefort
"The art of a true wizard is to hang out, knowing that your students will get out there, and just fuck shit up all the time." ― Arthur Aguefort
"Ah, except that perhaps it is never too late when you control time itself!" ― Arthur Aguefort
"Hello and greetings. I am Arthur Aguefort and if you are watching this recorded message, one of my students has claimed has claimed diplomatic need of my help in foreign affairs. Now, In this instance you should know that this student has been apprehended unlawfully and is under the protection of not only my academic independence, but also the laws of the nation of Solace. If they are harmed or injured in any way, [suddenly growling] ruin will be brought down on your heads, ninefold! [boom] [threatening shouting] I shall bind you to the center of the earth. I shall put you into the center of the sun. I shall summon one thousand, thousand dragons to devour you for endless days and send your soul back to the dawning of time to live as a mote of worthless scum across vast eons! The students of my school shall not be fucked with! [low growl] Even now, doom moves upon you. If you wish to avert this doom, [normal voice] press yes! If you wish to welcome your doom, press no." ― Arthur Aguefort
"What's my deal? What's MY deal?! I'm motherfucking ARTHUR! AGUEFORT! I am five hundred years old! I snuck into Heaven and now I'm back, motherfuckers! [...] That bird is the last phoenix. I fucked that bird! IT is my paramour! This motherfucker thought he could poison my tea! Well, you can't fuck with a wizard, can you?!" - Arthur Aguefort"
"Certainly other possible careers. And many of you also will not rely on adventuring for the rest of your life. Surely the dissolution of the structure of your group of beloved friends [suddenly shouting] shattered against the rocks of the material world with the endless ticking of time, time, time, by grain of sand doesn't mean you can't stay in touch." ― Arthur Aguefort
"I would hope that any student who received the tutelage in my academy would know that in a moment of crisis they were absolutely welcome to fuck my shit right up." ― Arthur Aguefort
"Quickly, quickly, we are going to break some rules. How about it? I'm going to light up a drug cigarette, ah! [gets out a lighter]" ― Arthur Aguefort
"Yes, no, I remember. There was a moment where I remember you sort of asking for there to be a form of student government here, but I won't have my power usurped, not even by students." ― Arthur Aguefort to Penny Luckstone
"You must all learn to give up on your dreams. That is the Aguefort way! Dreams are bad, and to change the world is wrong." ― Illusory Arthur Aguefort
"How delightful, you've murdered a government official in the name of adventure." ― Arthur Aguefort
"The Last Standard Examination was created at the dawn of time in order that students would be able to accept death in the face of overwhelming odds, that a great sacrifice must be called for. Many students believe that they have passed this examination by accepting the certainty of their demise. That ethos, that moral, stands in direct contradiction to everything I believe, and that my school stands for. You are the first to ever actually GET WHAT I WAS GOING FOR! That when an institution or establishment communicates that you must accept defeat, you raise two middle fingers to the fucking sky and say, “I WILL NEVER DIE!” All of you have passed your current year with an A+ in all of your classes. (Fig: So we didn't even have to study at all. We could've just done this.) That's exactly right, and in fact, anyone who did work or try hard instead of doing something fucked up and ill-advised, you are stupid. Stupid. So stupid. Not what I'm about. Unbelievable. My wonderful, absolutely reckless, unhinged, violent, wild, untameable Bad Kids. Did we get that one? Great." ― A prerecorded message for the Bad Kids when they pass the Last Stand
