Background

Avanash was an incredible blacksmith who knew much about crown lore, but wouldn't share his knowledge with Zaul'Nazh's forces. Leiland then imprisoned him in Karradkar, where he would stay for 250 years in a cage submerged underwater in a flowing underground river, standing as to be able to poke his head out just enough over the water to be able to breathe.

History

The Caged Elf and the Crown

Avanash is collected by The Lieutenants from Karradkar in order to help them forge a new crown for Zaul'Nazh. He agrees on the condition that nothing will happen to his bones. They bring him to The Scary Volcano, where he gets to work. After completing the crown, a newly awoken Galfast Hamhead tricks Avanash into letting her out of her bonds and giving her the crown. He is then pushed into the lava by Markus St. Vincent as soon as the Lieutenants find out what he did.

Trivia

• Avanash is an analogue for both Gollum/Sméagol and Celebrimbor in the Lord of the Rings.
  • This, however, was most likely last-minute coincidence, as Brennan revealed in both campaign-specific episodes of Adventuring Academy that the Lieutenants' arrival at Karradkar was not anticipated, and Avanash was an entirely improvised NPC created due to Matt's Nat 20 roll for Leiland's intelligence check while discussing the re-forging of the crown of Zaul'Nazh.
