Description[]
Baron is a 2-foot tall bone-white goblin mannequin made of either bone or ivory. Its joints are articulated into blackness. It wears a white shirt, a vest, and grey pantaloons. As hair, it wears a pure white wig in a Lord Fauntleroy/princeling style. Its face has two nostril holes, two matte black spots for eyes, and a dark, carved line for a mouth.
It has a voice colder than the grave, but its lips don't move when it speaks. It carries a long white wand.
History[]
Sophomores Start[]
At the start of spring break his sophomore year, Riz Gukgak, observing his friends "hooking up" and "doing it" with their significant others, lies about also being in a relationship in order to fit in. He tells them he's dating someone named Baron from the Baronies. (1:27:00 into the episode)
Havoc at the Hotel Cavalier[]
That night, Baron appears to Riz in a standing mirror in his PI office. Baron is upset that Riz doesn't recognize them as his "romance partner". Riz admits that he made Baron up and calls them a "weird little skeleton boy", which upsets Baron more. They threaten Riz to drag him to the Baronies to meet their "stark father" should he insult them a third time.
Severely freaked out, Riz shoots the mirror in self-defense, but this only allows Baron to come through the mirror and attack him. Baron twists Riz's head and drags him across the floor and into the mirror. It is later revealed that Riz was attacked this way because he was not sleeping, and therefore could not be influenced by the possession curse from his dragon's hoard like Fig Faeth was.
Mirror Madness[]
When the Bad Kids went to investigate Riz's office for not showing up the next day, they encountered and fought an extra-planer being that came out of the same mirror, implying to have been Baron. It took the full appearance of Riz this time though it's visage began to distort the longer the gang fought it. It was eventually banished into its home plane by Kristen.
Heartache on the Celestine Sea[]
After Riz is rescued at the Hotel Cavalier alongside Fig, he warns the party not to lie, as their lies may come and attack them later, like Baron did.
Fearful Symmetry[]
Riz encounters Baron again in the Forest of the Nightmare King. As he runs through in pursuit of the unicorn skeleton, Baron appears in a mirror on one of the trees. Riz insists that Baron isn't real, and Baron asks why he made it up if he's so dedicated to the truth. Riz talks about his fear of being wrong and hurting his friends but corrects himself to say that Baron was different. He made Baron up because all his friends were hooking up, but since he's not into that kind of thing, he didn't want any questions.
In the mirrors around him, Riz sees his friends appear with their romantic interests: Fabian and Aelwyn dancing; Tracker and Kristen making out; Fig playing a concert with Ayda in the front row; Ragh and Fathethriel kissing. Baron attempts to sow doubt in Riz's mind about why his friends keep him around, that they only see him as the funny little guy who finds the clues. Baron tells him that all his friends are going to find someone that matters more to them than Riz.
Riz grapples with the thought momentarily but is grounded solely by the fact that he knows Ragh doesn't like Fathethriel. Baron finally shows him an image of his parents, Pok and Sklonda, meeting at a fancy party, suave and confident, and tells him that he's most unlike them.
After some deliberation, Riz tells Baron that he's wrong. He doesn't need to be like his friends or his parents, they love him anyway. Baron counters this by asking Riz what his relationship is with his once good friend Penny Luckstone, postulating that Riz had more appreciation for her when she was a mystery rather than a person. Riz explains that people change, they've grown apart, and he's okay with it. Penny has her crew of friends, and Riz is the little shrimp of his crew. As soon as Riz says "little shrimp", all the mirrors shatter, and Baron dies... or so it seems.
Junior Year[]
A Very Merry Moonar Yulenear[]
After a many-month absence, Baron resurfaces in Riz's briefcase. When Riz shoves Fig inside to save her from her curse and jumps in after her, Baron pulls Riz away from one of the shattered curse fragments, then pops out of the files, causing Riz to have a breakdown as Baron yells that they're going to die together. When Kristen Applebees jumps with the rest of the group, Baron tells her that she won't be able to banish him so easily this time. Baron states that the Nightmare King is very angry and in the arms of his loving partner. He tells the group that they should be very afraid, but not of "sweet little old Baron from the Baronies". After this, he disappears back into the files.
Baron's Game[]
As the Bad Kids land in a nightmare version of Fig's bedroom, Baron appears to them, this being the first time anyone other than Riz has seen him. The other Bad Kids ask if Riz and Baron are dating, prompting Baron to criticize Riz for not telling his friends about them. After crawling on the ceiling and taking his head off (Riz says that Baron is not trying to scare them, this is just Baron being Baron), he is repelled by Kristen saying Cassandra’s name and disappears into a mirror.
Baron doesn't physically appear for a while, but he continues to torment the Bad Kids by possessing them, though it appears he can only take control of one person at a time whenever one of them enters a room with a mirror in it. Baron first takes control of Fabian's mind, guiding Adaine into a nightmare version of her own room before locking the door, revealing himself, and using Fabian to attack her. Baron gets in two good hits, taking most of Adaine's HP, before she Dimension Doors out of the room.
Baron next takes control of Adaine while she is with Fig and Gorgug in a standoff with illusions of Zara Sool and Zayn Darkshadow, leaving Fabian to wake up in Adaine's bedroom. Baron attempts to hit the pair with Steelwind Strike, but it is countered by Fig. Once Gorgug has been dominated by Zara, it appears there are no more combatants (Fig is invisibly lying on the floor in defeat). Baron has Gorgug do a dance, seemingly for his own amusement, before instructing Zayn and Zara to search for Fig. Unfortunately, after a moment, Kristen, Fabian, and Ragh burst into the room. Kristen manages to blast Baron out of Adaine's brain, sending him spiraling through a mirror towards Riz in a different room. Just before Baron can possess Riz, Adaine casts Raulothim's Psychic Lance on him, immobilizing him for a brief period.
Just as the Bad Kids are preparing to leave with their collected curse artifacts, Baron bursts out of Mordred Manor in a massive horrifying tangled mess of skeleton limbs, demanding that Riz stay with him. Riz yells that they're breaking up, and the group escapes the nightmare. The final fate of Baron is left unknown.
