Big City Connections is the third episode of season 10, The Seven.
Recap[]
"Last we left off we were in Bastion City facing down Charity Blythe, a bureaucrat at the Ministry of Adventuring and a worker for the Council of Chosen, the government of the nation of Solace. With our seven Heroic High Schoolers trying to find out the mystery of where did Tectonya Karkovnya, the Superintendent of Schools go to with this strange object perceived in Sam Nightingale's Mirror of the Past. We saw her arrive fleeing from shadows, perhaps metaphorical, perhaps legendary, to an ancient dwarven temple. Not deep underground but instead high on the spires of the Mountains of Chaos. And we know that Tectonya disappeared years ago and that she's alive somewhere because no new superintendent has been chosen. In order to graduate as an adventuring party the three junior members of the Seven Maidens must achieve their GED which we know means that they need to complete a class A, B, or C quest and get a sign-off from the missing Superintendent of Schools. And yet another front opens on the adventure which is, do these friends believe that that is the right thing for them to do? Their friendship versus the ever-looming presence of the world beyond high school. We return now to the moment that we departed at the end of our last episode where in the midst of Charity Blythe leaving to return to work after explaining the internship process to a young Antiope Jones, the hairs on Antiope's arms and legs stood at attention. The smell of something familiar, and a face you've not seen in almost two years appears before you. We return now under the goofily displayed bones of Kalvaxus, a dragon you all killed."
Synopsis[]
Penny calls the others and apologetically tells about the voice she heard from the mirror and that an evil queen is coming. Yelle hypothises that it is something Fey or, as Antiope puts it, "bad, janky Faerie". Antiope uses Primeval Awareness and senses a group of 50-60 monstrosities moving very quickly through the mountains towards Pilgrims Pass, the village where the Seven are, with a beyond-deadly Fey presence accompanying them. Antiope also remembers what Ostentatia said about the Temple of the Earth Defiant: no monstrosity shall enter there: the Seven decide to ride there and get to the top. As they reach the temple they see the monstrosities: they are Ether Beasts a combination of displacer beasts (they look like large, six-legged panther-looking creatures with long tentacles coming off them) and blink dogs (same color), led by an armoured Ether Beast the size of an elephant called Kurraghran. Above them, there's a flock of harpies: women-faced winged creatures with tallons instead of legs.
Penny: "We're the only harpies around here!"
Katja: "We're not harpies, we aren't."
Yelle: "Yeah, that's a very gendered term, I feel."
Antiope: "Okay, but these bitches aren't misunderstood"
INITIATIVE ORDER: Penny: 25 || Yelle: 19 || Antiope: 8 || Katja: 6 || Sam: 3 || Ostentatia: 1, soon renamed "the long caboose", because "you need someone in the back end".
Penny casts Create Bonfire [DEX Save, DC 15) to create an obstable for Kurraghran [rolls 5, 9 damage over 2d8] and the other Ether Beasts, and runs [180ft] forward.
Yelle casts Conjure Animal [challenge rating 1/4, rolls a 23 Nature check] , calls eight geese [with raptors' stats] and tells them to swarm Kurraghran untill it is dead. Yelle also casts Bear Sprit, calling on the strength of ants and beatles [all allies get 14 temporary hit points and advantage on STR checks and saves]
