Questions Asked[]
From Sylvie Beldon: "I love Dimension 20 so much, and y'all are always so uplifting and wonderful. What was your favorite thing to revisit in part two of The Unsleeping City, and what has been your favorite part of the new season?
- Zac stated that his favourite thing about revisiting the setting was "just the city itself, baby." He went on to explain that even though he's never lived in New York City, playing in the first season of The Unsleeping City made him feel a sense of nostalgia for the city and sparked a desire to travel. He also reminisced about playing a trailer for the first season at a live show in Brooklyn.
- Siobhan chimed in, adding that "It's the seventh character. It's the seventh PC, is the city of New York." She emphasised the importance of the setting as a character in its own right, shaping the narrative and influencing the characters' actions.
- Brennan's response focused on the unique circumstances surrounding the production of The Unsleeping City: Chapter Two. Due to the pandemic, the cast was unable to film in person and instead relied on Roll20, an online platform for playing tabletop role-playing games. Brennan found it particularly meaningful to return to the setting of New York City, even if only in their imaginations, during a time when many people were feeling isolated and trapped at home. He noted that for him, The Unsleeping City is "a love letter to [his] dad's love for New York City and its history."
- Lou echoed Brennan's sentiment, stating that he enjoyed "the nature of like, what [Brennan was] speaking to and how this is a love letter to [his] father." He compared the experience to revisiting a familiar town and discovering new and interesting places that you hadn't explored before. He specifically mentioned the excitement of going to Queens and visiting a mall, locations that weren't featured in the first season.
- Ally's favourite aspect of returning to the setting was seeing "our characters doing that as well" in reference to coming of age in New York City. Ally noted that the city is often a place where people figure out who they are and what they want out of life, and it was enjoyable to see the characters going through similar experiences.
From Matthew Nights: "Hey everyone, you all absolutely rule. I've loved these first two episodes so much. My question is for Siobhan specifically. What made you want to play as a new character rather than going back to Rowan? Keep up the excellent work and take care of yourselves."
- Siobhan felt that Rowan's character arc had reached a natural conclusion in the first season. She struggled to envision a compelling direction for the character, particularly in light of Rowan's new responsibilities as the leader of the New York fae court.
- Siobhan came up with the idea for Iga Lisowski, a Polish witch with a connection to the magical history of New York City. The character arrived fully formed in her mind, which Siobhan saw as a sign that she should pursue this new direction.
- Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Dungeon Master, pointed out that Rowan's absence from the main action of The Unsleeping City: Chapter Two made sense given her demanding new role.
- Siobhan also acknowledged that continuing Rowan's romantic relationship with Pete Conlan, played by Ally Beardsley, would have been messy and difficult to portray convincingly after a two-year time jump.
From Okay Then: "How has the party dynamic changed since the last time playing in The Unsleeping City? Did experiencing a high lethality season in A Crown of Candy impact the way you approach the game now?"
- The introduction of new characters, Cody and Iga, alongside the returning characters, Pete, Ricky, and Kingston, created a fresh dynamic. Cody, being completely new to the world of the Unsleeping City, brought a sense of naiveté and wonder, while Iga's pre-existing knowledge of this hidden world offered a different perspective.
- The relationships between the returning characters had evolved over the three-year in-game time jump. Ricky was now in a committed relationship with Esther, Pete was navigating sobriety, and Kingston was settling into domestic life with Liz. These developments added layers of complexity to their interactions.
- The cast acknowledged that the high-stakes, high-lethality nature of A Crown of Candy had influenced their approach to the game. Siobhan, who played Ruby in A Crown of Candy, remarked that the experience had made the cast "sillier in everything else." Lou jokingly noted that he was now more cautious about healing his companions unless they were already incapacitated.
From Jack Rota: "Hey, intrepid heroes, and Brennan, our humble dungeon master. In the spirit of New York, what is your go-to bagel order, personal and in character for The Unsleeping City?"
- Siobhan prefers a plain bagel with plain cream cheese, acknowledging that "there's a time and a place" for this simple classic. She occasionally opts for turkey if she's feeling particularly hungry.
- Brennan reveals a deep affection for everything bagels, typically enjoying them toasted with extra cream cheese. He fondly recalls frequenting Jubilee, a bagel shop, during his time in New York. While he typically doesn't use bagels as a substitute for bread, he confesses to indulging in a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel from a particular bagel shop during a period of residence in Brooklyn. This anecdote highlights Brennan's appreciation for the versatility of bagels while emphasizing his preference for the classic everything bagel.
- Lou's personal favourite is a pumpernickel bagel with scallion cream cheese and bacon. He enjoys this combination so much that he makes it a point to visit Tompkins Square Bagels at least four times whenever he's in New York. In contrast to Lou's more elaborate order, Kingston Brown prefers a simple sesame seed bagel with classic cream cheese, cut into quarters. This choice reflects Kingston's grounded personality and perhaps a desire for practicality amidst his superhero duties.
- Ally's go-to order is a toasted everything bagel loaded with capers and onions. However, due to a gluten intolerance, Ally opts for vegan cream cheese. Similarly, Pete Conlan enjoys a toasted everything bagel but sticks with regular cream cheese.
From Hailey (@GilearsLilBeans): “If all your characters worked at the mall with Cody, what stores would they work at?”
Lou Wilson, initially struggled to come up with an appropriate store for Kingston, joking that he would be a greeter at Sears because that's where "old people work in the mall". After being reminded that malls don't typically have greeters, Lou settled on Wetzel's Pretzels. Siobhan, endorsed this choice, remarking that working at Wetzel's Pretzels seems like "the best mall job" because you get to make pretzels.
