Description[]
Whitclaw has a glaring, terrifying presence. He beady eyes and a squidlike face with tentacles that come out the bottom of his head. One of his tentacles is wooden, like a peg leg. Beneath the tentacles is a beak.
He wears a bright scarlet coat over a blue shirt and carries an intense looking crystalline saber at his side. When it hits his victims, the blade thrums with an intense hatred able to disrupt the tissues of their bodies, likely dealing psychic damage.
Background[]
Whitclaw's main conflict with Bill Seacaster began when Bill killed the last pirate king. Doing so would have made him the next pirate king, ruler of Leviathan, but he elected instead to declare Leviathan a democracy, planting the dead king's head, still wearing the crown, on a stake in Gibberty Square. Whitclaw disagreed with this declaration, and returned to Leviathan shortly before the Bad Kids arrived to claim the crown for himself.
History[]
Leviathan Rock City[]
The Bad Kids encounter Whitclaw at Garthy O'Brien's pleasure house in the Gold Gardens. Kristen unknowingly grabs his mug of mead off the bar, which begins a confrontation. He caresses Kristen's face with his wooden tentacle until Tracker swats it away. The crew of the Crimson Claw all draw their swords in retaliation and are asked to leave by Garthy as a result, but before they do, Whitclaw turns to Fabian to insult his father. They continue to exchange insults until Fabian attempts to kick him in the chest. The kick doesn't land as Whitclaw catches Fabian's foot, and Garthy O'Brien quickly dismisses the Captain and his crew before any real conflict can begin, as combat is forbidden in the Gold Gardens.
Pirate Brawl[]
Fabian wanders off alone to Crow's Keep, where he and the warlocks of the Cult of Old Bill encounter Whitclaw and his crew. Fabian runs out of the house where they were meeting to attack, but quickly finds that they are woefully unprepared to fight. He is stunned by Whitclaw who attempts to eat his brains, and the Captain easily murders fourteen of the warlocks in the first two rounds of combat. While Fabian does land a few blows, he quickly retreats and rides the rope and rigging back down to the streets of Leviathan, leaving the warlocks and Whitclaw behind.
Before Fabian attacked, Whitclaw and his crew were presumably on their way to talk to the elder pirates at the Ramble. It is revealed later by Jamina Joy that Whitclaw spoke with the elder pirates about what it would take to reinstate a pirate king on Leviathan, and they told him that the only thing in the way are the words of Bill Seacaster. If a pirate desired to become the next pirate king, all he would have to do is take the crown from the head of the last king in Gibberty Square, and head to the Row and the Ruction to crown himself. Whitclaw and his crew left and burned the Ramble to the ground, which Jamina later tells the Bad Kids was unnecessary and most likely done out of pure malice.
The Row and the Ruction[]
The Bad Kids meet Whitclaw and his crew at the Row and the Ruction in an attempt to stop him taking over Leviathan. Before entering the fight, Whitclaw meets them at the door to provoke Fabian, calling him weak for running away and getting his friends to help. The team defends him, including Cathilda, who showed up to get revenge on Whitclaw for threatening Fabian's life, and he's shaken by her threats. He counters, however, by saying that while he will only have to fight on one front, they'll have to be fighting on two, revealing that he's teamed up with a few elves from Fallinel who have come to kidnap Adaine, the elven oracle.
