Episodes Featuring Cassandra
Fantasy High: Sophomore Year
Fantasy High: Junior Year

Description[]

Cassandra appears as a humanoid figure made of translucent glass, reflecting a deep night sky scattered with stars, few and far between. They are as large as a mountain and can easily carry multiple small to large beings in their hands. They wear shorts and a tie-dye t-shirt, which matches that of Kristen Applebees.

Cassandra is the deity of Mystery, Night, and Magic.

In previous iterations of their existence, their appearance varied. As the Unnamed Goddess, their appearance was never truly known, as they had been destroyed hundreds of years prior. In the few places their image still existed, they were depicted as a woman in long robes and with long, dark, billowing hair. As the Nightmare King, they were a skeletal being in tattered robes as big as a mountain. This caused the people of Spyre to assume they were male, further distancing them from their previous identity.

History[]

At the time of the last Great Sylvan War, about 850 years ago, the centaurs, treants, sprites, and wood elves in Sylvaire were in conflict with each other, motivated by religious differences between the tribes over the correct way to worship the Goddess of Mystery.

Sylvarian Heresy[]

The tribes in Sylvaire that worshiped the Goddess of Mystery attempted to destroy their own goddess’ name through a council and a ritual act of divining magic on the advice of High Elven Clerics of Galicaea. The clerics told them that the Goddess of Mystery shouldn’t have a name, and the fact that there were things that were understood about her was a heresy.

This was thought by the clergy of Fallinel to have been an agreement between the clerics of Galicaea to attempt to weaken the Goddess of Mystery and allow the church of Galicaea to expand.

During this time, certain heretics and mystics were having prophetic dreams in which they saw the Four Transubstantiations. They were driven out and ignored by the high elven clerics, but the prophecies were recorded.

The Four Transubstantiations[]

The Goddess performed Four Transubstantiations and one Great Transubstantiation before the ritual was carried out, to protect herself from being unmade. Adaine Abernant learns the true nature of each as the Bad Kids investigate the Temple to the Goddess of Mystery.

The Coin[]

Her spell book is turned into a coin, which is adorned with an unidentifiable occult rune, as seen at the Shrine of Thorns. It is associated with enchantment magic, and was gifted by the sprites. It is what causes members of the party to become possessed while they sleep. The coin was given to Kalvaxus by the Nightmare King and added to his dragon's hoard, thus spreading the effects across the continent. The curse spreads through the entirety of someone's fortune if they accept money they know came from this hoard. If the money is accepted without knowledge of its origins in the hoard, it is no longer cursed. The curse can be completely removed from a person if all acquired money is spent.

As the Bad Kids got rid of the remainder of their gold and gems prior to confronting the Nightmare King, Fabian Seacaster found this coin in his pocket and the curse was dispelled by Kristen Applebees.

The Plague[]

Her familiar, a black cat, is turned into a plague. It is associated with illusion magic, and was gifted by the wood elves. The plague manifests as Kalina, the Shadow Cat, who is more powerful within the boundaries of the Forest of the Nightmare King and can control the illusions that live there.

She is killed by Riz Gukgak and the curse dispelled by Aelwyn Abernant during the battle against the Nightmare King.

The Curse[]

Her sanctum, a cottage, is turned into a curse. It is associated with abjuration magic, and was gifted by the centaurs. It acts as a magic circle of protection protecting the forest from celestial beings that may try to enter. It prevents certain levels of spells from being cast going deeper into the forest. Celestial beings are forcefully summoned there and ensnared by magical vines that restrict movement and speech, creating a gallery of trapped angels. The sanctum fed off magical power from these celestials which made the trans-substantiation more powerful.

After being rescued, the celestial Zaphriel continued to free the rest of the celestials trapped there, reducing the power of the curse and allowing it to be dispelled by Tracker O'Shaughnessey during the battle against the Nightmare King.

The Tree[]

Her arcane focus, a broomstick, is turned into a tree. It is most likely associated with transmutation magic, and was gifted by the treants. The tree is located at the very center of the forest. The forest beyond the Temple to the Goddess of Mystery is alive and it will change its paths to try and lead travelers away from the center based on the degree to which they feel or don't feel fear. The more confident they are that they are going in the right direction and that they are safe in doing so, the more it will turn them around back the way they came. To reach the center, travelers must literally follow their fears.

The tree is chopped down by Gorgug Thistlespring during the battle against the Nightmare King, and the curse dispelled by Tracker O'Shaughnessey.

The Great Transubstantiation[]

Her Name[]

With the Great Transubstantiation, she turned her name into a crown. This also seemed to hide the smaller trans-substantiations under a larger curse, making them harder to detect.

At the end of the battle against the Nightmare King, Kristen Applebees approached the Nightmare King and encountered what was left of the Unnamed Goddess's former existence. As their sole worshiper, Kristen defeated the Nightmare King and brought the Goddess, now renamed Cassandra, back into existence.

Junior Year[]

At the beginning of Junior year, Cassandra and Kristen's relationship is strained, as Kristen and Craig are still her only followers and she is concerned about the lack of promotion Kristen has been giving her. She learns of the death of Kristen's previous god, YES, which further feeds her concern. This leads to the revival of Kalina, her familair, to help ease Cassandra's loneliness. Kalina suggests Cassandra promoting herself, at the mall on the astral plane, which Kristen agrees to but forgets due to her campaign and Fabian's party, which leads to the incident at the mall, in which her hurt regarding Kristen's lack of support and fear of potentially dying manifests as rage.

Trivia[]

  • As discovered in Mall Madness, Cassandra is allergic to shrimp.

Quotes[]

  • "Then if people want to believe in the nighttime and that you can stand in the woods alone in the dark and not have to be afraid because you're united there with everything else that's in the night there with you, and that the world is a mystery, and that's beautiful, I would be happy to do that."[2]
