Description[]
"I’m Chancellor Lapin Cadbury, as you said, the Chaplain of the Castle Candy, and the Primogen of the Bulbian Church, and I’m here to teach these princesses on all things-- I’m the royal tutor, so I’m teaching the young princesses about the kingdom of Calorum. I look-- I’m a level 3 warlock with a Celestial patron, and I look like a chocolate bunny with just like, the foil coming off of it, like the kind of Easter colored foil as like a cape, and my robes are made of that. And I’m a little stuffy, but I know that knowing these things will help the children and also will grant them a certain power." ― Zac Oyama
Lapin is a stuffy and pessimistic warlock with a dark secret. He has a very deadpan sense of humor.
He's a chocolate bunny who wears Easter-colored robes made of peeling foil. He carries the Lollistaff.
Background[]
Lapin has always had something of an interest in Sucrosi lore and myth. As a young boy with a rebellious streak, he stole a tome containing instructions for summoning the Sugar-Plum Fairy. His attempt to summon her was a success, but he made mistakes in the wards; to settle the score with the young Lapin, the Sugar-Plum Fairy made it so that he owed her three wishes, rather than vice versa. To help him carry out her wishes (and to bring him closer to the House of Rocks), she granted him magic, becoming his patron.
History[]
There is Strength in Sweetness[]
Lapin is first seen in the tallest tower of Castle Candy where he is interrupted in the middle of his lesson by Sir Theobald who informs him that the princesses he ought to be teaching had replaced their bodily forms by scarecrows. Lapin had not noticed this.
Ambush on the Sucrosi Road[]
Lapin is seen in this episode healing Ruby Rocks and King Amethar Rocks when they are ambushed by bandits.
Keep Sharp[]
Lapin is seen in this episode in The Great Pyramid of Food meeting with other high standing individuals of The Bulbian Church.
The Grand Tournament[]
Lapin is seen in this episode watching the tournament as Amethar is attacked by Sir Keradin Deeproot. After the arrest of Sir Deeproot, Lapin participates in a closed-door interrogation of the paladin. From this interrogation he learns that Primogen Alfredi crafted the water daggers used to poison Amethar. Lapin orders the arrest of Alfredi.
Lapin's Big Day[]
Lapin is seen in this episode in kicking ass and taking names.
Chaos in the Cathedral[]
Lapin is seen in this episode stepping in between Liam Wilhelmina and Sir Keradin Deeproot to protect Liam, as well as casting Fly on Sir Theobold Gumbar, thus allowing the rest of the royal family to escape the church. Shortly after this Sir Keradin drops him, and he is last seen dying by the hand of Sir Keradin, under command from the Pontifex.
The Two Balls[]
Lapin appeared to Liam Wilhelmina in the Ice Cream Temple as a spirit along with the spirit of Peppermint Preston. Lapin explained to Liam that both The Bulb and The Hungry One coexisted as two separate forces.
The Bulbian Church[]
Relationships[]
Princesses Jet and Ruby Rocks[]
The twin daughters of King Amethar and princesses of Candia. Lapin is their primary instructor and seems to take the brunt of most of their trickery. He tends to easily drone on and often gets too caught up in his (boring) lectures, to the point where he does not notice he is talking to himself.
After the discovery of Lapin's true patron deity by Princess Jet & Liam Wilhelmina, the Princess threatens him that she would reveal this information unless he saves her father, the King, during the attack on the Sucrosi Road. Lapin heals King Amethar, keeping him stable throughout the fight. Princess Jet Rocks holds a respect for him, despite how dull he is.
Sir Theobald Gumbar[]
Lord Commander of the Tartguard. Although he and Lapin have a mutual dislike of each other, their rivalry usually manifests as just petty and passive-aggressive comments, and constantly trying to one-up each other in their respect and dedication to the throne in a 'bickering married couple' type dynamic. As the series continued, Theobald began to have a begrudging respect for Lapin after finding out he was a warlock of The Sugar-Plum Fairy.
King Amethar of House Rocks[]
The King of Candia. The King does not care very much for Lapin, thinking of him as snotty and boring, and actively encourages his daughters playing tricks on him. Meanwhile, Lapin is dedicated to the preservation of the House of Rocks by command of the Sugarplum Fairy.
Queen Caramelinda of House Rocks[]
The Queen of Candia. In contrast with her husband, Queen Caramelinda seems to have a high opinion of Lapin, insisting that her husband bring him along when he travels to Comida.
The Sugar-Plum Fairy[]
As a Warlock of a Celestial Patron, Lapin is connected and bound to the Sugar-Plum Fairy, a powerful entity stemming from the Wicca-esque pagan faith of the Sweetening Path that is native to Candia. This relationship is quite secretive, as the greater population of Calorum are followers of the Bulbian Church, who are diametrically opposed to the Sweetening Path due to its connections to witchcraft and arcane magic. Although he derives his magic from her, he seems to almost resent their relationship, as he owes the Sugar-Plum Fairy three wishes, the second of which she used to get Lapin close to Castle Candy and the House of Rocks.
Trivia[]
- Lapin Cadbury's name is a direct reference to the Cadbury confection company. Lapin is the French word for "rabbit", referring to the company's mascot and several of their products being chocolate shells molded to resemble them.
- Zac Oyama tends to play particularly innocent and lovable softies, like Gorgug Thistlespring from Fantasy High, or Ricky Matsui from the Unsleeping City. Lapin is the first exception, and is even one of the most morally ambivalent protagonists of Dimension 20 seen thus far.
- Lapin's death is the first permanent PC death in Dimension 20.
- His mini was sold as part of the Dimension 20 A Crown Of Candy Auction for $5,601
