The Chesters are 12-foot-tall, gangly robots, with wrench-like hands and tires for feet. Their long, ropey limbs are silver in colour, with loose wires dangling alongside them. Other than a pair of wide white eyes and a little silver mustache, they lack facial features. Each of them wears a shiny silver cowboy hat.
Their programming is fairly simple; they can do a wide range of upkeep and modification jobs, but they have to be given specific instructions. Their speech is also rudimentary, frequently cycling through stock phrases such as "get 'er done" rather than forming sentences from scratch. Most of them have similar personalities, other than Chester 4, who is notably "not afraid to die".

The Gunner Channel first meets the Chesters, along with their creator Lamelia, at the shipyard in Baustin. She introduces them, and indicates the colored lights on her belt that let her know what each Chester is up to.
