"Excuse me, fellas. Looking a for a place for an old man to just sorta dribble out a little piss." ― Daisuke Bucklesby

Daisuke Bucklesby is Zac Oyama's character in Cloudward, Ho!

Description[]

I guess walking up about 60 feet away, you see an old man with a cowboy hat on, little sunglasses on his nose. Sort of a Japanese-style overcoat and dusty pants and cowboy boots, walking from far away.

Zac Oyama

Background[]

Daisuke is a former outlaw, the “most wanted man in Pilby”. He traveled with the infamous pirate Goldbeard, who he considered to be his brother, but at some point the two fell out and Daisuke ended up killing him, after which he was “lost at air” for six months, having to grab seagulls out of the air and eat them raw in order to survive. By the time of the newsreel in 1363, he had left that life behind.

In his sixties, he met and married Comfrey MacLeod, then subsequently divorced her. As a favor to Comfrey, he has been looking after the MacLeods, taking care of any goons sent after the family. This included an incident on a roller coaster, where he killed an unconfirmed number of assassins armed with knives who were planning to drop said knives on Olethra’s head on the loop-de-loop.

History[]

In the introductory newsreel, Daisuke is drinking from a little flask of whiskey, which he drops over the side when the camera finds him. When asked about a sky romance unfolding on the ship (with Comfrey MacLeod), he says he doesn’t kiss and tell. He claims to be, in many ways, very reformed from his former life as an outlaw, and he’s experiencing life as it comes at him on the Zephyr.

When three lowlifes approach Olethra MacLeod in the Gulch Canyon sky port, attempting to kidnap her, Daisuke intervenes and kills two of them. Olethra recognizes him and tells him of the message she received from Comfrey, which Daisuke initially doesn’t believe, but he finally agrees to follow her and Maxwell to the Zephyr.

When boarding, Daisuke wistfully runs his hands over various surfaces of the ship and reflects on the amount of memories associated with it (including the California king bed in the captain’s quarters). The contents of Comfrey’s message make him tear up a little. In the captain’s quarters, he is not able to decode Comfrey’s notes, but knows who can – Marya Junková.

In Scrapsylvania, Daisuke tells Marya that she doesn’t look well and gives condolences about the loss of her ship and crew. He seems a little scared of Marya’s intensity regarding Straka.

In Bellenuit, Daisuke wrestles Montgomery LaMontgommery’s publisher Harry Ergh to the ground and pushes him down a slide.

After the first encounter with Lord Kensington Mordecestershire, Daisuke joins up with Monty and Olethra to look at the logbook Olethra took from Comfrey’s quarters.

In the South Pole station, Daisuke unsuccessfully tries to open a hatch and is greatly distracted by Olethra’s fireworks. When deciding who will stay behind for the second lifeboat, Daisuke shoves Van into the first one, seeing that she’s freaking out.

Daisuke goes up to Monty when they’re back on the ship, admitting he didn’t do much down at the station and confessing that he misses Comfrey very much. He also expresses regret at not being able to kill Wealwell.

Relationships[]

Comfrey MacLeod[]

Comfrey and Daisuke had a sky romance during their time on the Zephyr. They married and later divorced, though Daisuke seems to remember her with fondness and looks after her family as a favor to her. Daisuke has a lot of memories involving Comfrey’s California king bed on the Zephyr – according to him, they met in their sixties, so they were ready to go. Pappy misses Comfrey very much and when the crew gets to the Zood, he immediately calls out to her.

Ghost Dog[]

Ghost Dog is Daisuke's 38-year old black labrador retriever with a white face and long nails scratching on the floor. Daisuke brought Ghost Dog on board the Zephyr. Ghost Dog has always been called Ghost Dog. Daisuke knew he'd be around awhile.

Wealwell Gotch[]

Daisuke finds Wealwell’s habit of speaking from far away unnerving and refuses to respect him. He says that if they’re ever alone, Daisuke will kill him and if he was a younger man, he would have killed him already. There is at least one attempt by him to push Wealwell off the Zephyr.
