Delloso de la Rue, or just Rue, is a former member of the Court of Wonder, former Mistrex of the Bloom, and a member of the Pack of Pixies. They are played by Oscar Montoya.

Description[]

Personality[]

Rue is incredibly calm, despite taking a lot of responsibility for themself. They are best friends with their assistant, Wuvvy. They also enjoy drama and enjoy the ability to show off how good of a host they are by squashing drama, which is why they suggested a wager to ruin Squak and Chirp's promise to act less chaotic. When they speak, most people assume they speak for the Court of Wonder, which upsets them since they're barely there. Rue finds it hard to say no to people when they need their help socially, causing them to spend a long time away from Hob at the Masquerade even though they want to talk with him.

Appearance[]

In their glamoured form, Rue has light green skin and long cascading sea foam hair. They have long elven ears, and their makeup is exquisitely done.

Underneath the elven glamour, Rue appears as a seven foot tall, moss-green owlbear - a hulking, giant monster - wearing a very pretty dress. They have very large kind eyes, a beak and tufts on the top of their head.

Outfits[]

Oscar states in the 10th Adventuring Party that all of Rue's pre-glamour looks were designed to appear unapproachable, where as afterwards they just wanted to feel comfortable and wear pretty dresses.

Episode 1: A Bloom to Remember[]

Their default glamoured look (which is shown in the art that depicts them in every episode prior to the reveal of their true form) is debuted in this episode. It is described as a gorgeous light blue skintight bodysuit modelled after The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli, with a beautiful taffeta shell rising up from the bottom to emulate the shell in said painting. Rue chose this outfit to honour the Sea Foam Court. This outfit gives them advantage on persuasion.

Episode 2: The Great Hart Hunt[]

Rue's outfit for the Great Hart Hunt is inspired by Robin Hood. They are wearing a moss green vest which transitions into a small skirt. Their sleeves are long and billowy with very tight tights and a nine inch pump, which makes them very tall and is good for power moves. They are also implied to have a peacock feather in their hat.

Episode 3: Duel on the Southern Lawn[]

Nighttime Attire[]

In the evening, Rue wears a beautiful, delicate, nightgown made from gossamer which shimmers with a rainbow hue regardless of light.

At the Duel[]

Rue changes into a mock snake skin unitard, combat boots made from mock fish scales, gloves from mock cowhide, an oversized military coat made from many mock porcupine quills, and a helmet covered with more porcupine quills in a mohawk effect. This outfit gives them advantage on intimidation, and is worn in support of Wuvvy.

Episode 4: Seaside Teatime[]

Marie Antoinette[]

The outfit they wear in their glamour this episode is described as a "Marie Antoinette moment". They are wearing a powdered wig which ends in a stack of teacups which teeter-totter as they walk. Their face is also powdered white, and they're wearing a massive French Revolution style ball gown made of actual teacups; They're wearing a corset with more teacups as a bustier, and the gown of the dress is a giant glass teacup.

True Form[]

After discarding their glamour, their owlbear form is described wearing a soft pink taffeta Regency-era gown and with a garland of peonies draped over their ear tufts. Post finale, they also wear a brown piece of string tied in a bow around their finger like a ring, tying them to the Pack of Pixies and their open-invitation to the Court of Craft.

Episode 7: The Masquerade Ball[]

(Masquerade)[]

At the Masquerade, Wuvvy and Rue wear complementary outfits. Rue is wearing a beautiful entirely black ball gown which reaches to their toes, with the same design as Wuvvy's, except Wuvvy's is all white. There are black peonies cascading from the bust down to the end of the train. The underskirt is made of liquid material in honour of the Seafoam Court that makes it look like they are walking on water. There is a peony crown on the top of their head, and they are wearing a string of pearls and a gold ring, inside of which the medal of courage which Hob gave to them is concealed.

Episode 9: Theater of War[]

(Ampitheater)[]

Rue shows up to the ampitheater in a beautiful ruby red ball gown with gold lace and scalloping, It falls like a down-turned rose. They have peonies stacked up high to emulate an afro.

Background[]

Rue was born a wild owlbear in the Material Plane and raised by Archfey of the Court of Wonder, although they rarely felt at home in the Court of Wonder.

Relationships[]

Prince Andhera[]

Rue knew Andhera when he was younger and discussed with Squak and Chirp his prior reputation as "Pillar Boy." They haven't been very close or distant throughout the series, although Andhera is the first person to approach and congratulate Rue after they shed their glamour, even risking a diplomatic incident by leaving Viscountess Gribalba with Lord Oberon, which left Rue confused but appreciative. They believe he knows what its like to hide oneself.

At the confrontation at the abandoned tailor's shop, Andhera is under the effects of a potion of Detect Thoughts, meaning Andhera therefore knows that Rue and Hob are enamoured by each other. Andhera also reveals his true voice at this meeting, as he wanted people to know that they weren't the only one putting themselves out there by revealing things, although he recognises that this is the smallest revelation of the meeting. When Hob reveals that the K in K. P. stands for Knickolas, Rue very loudly sighs dreamily and exclaims in their brain that they love him, which Andhera hears.

When Rue interrupts the cousins trying to kill Andhera for what they know, the two of them accidentally spill their meeting spot and their plans.

In episode 9 (Theater of War), Andhera offers all of the Pack of Pixies a position in his court.

While taunting Pricness Suntar during his duel, Andhera compliments Rue and tells them that they created a successful Bloom, as it brought the Pack of Pixies together.

During the denouement, Hob bursts into the Library where Andhera is, asking for what they found out at the tailor shop when they were reading minds. Andhera responds that he didn't dig very deep out of respect for Rue and BINX, but he picked up a lot of "vibes." Hob then shakes Andhera aggressively and yells, "BE MORE SPECIFIC!" Andhera exasperatedly tells him to just tell Rue how he feels, and Hob hugs him.

BINX Choppley[]

Rue and the real Gwyndolin Thistle-hop both work within the Court of Wonder, but not together. At the Bloom, Rue and BINX, disguised as Gwyndolin, have an awkward moment of eye contact when they both realise neither of them knew each other. Rue later approaches BINX and askes them from then on to pretend that they knew each other. BINX suggests that they just get to know each other, and posed several questions to them. Rue insisted that they just pretend to know eachother. Later, Rue writes a letter to BINX apologising for this and offering to be actual friends, after which BINX gifts them with a key, which turned out to be cursed. BINX is the second person to compliment Rue on their true form after Andhera, and BINX later tracks them down to show them her true form and tell them who they are and why they were there. This is when BINX tells Rue the truth about the key and tries to destroy it, which gave way to a small argument between them, but they eventually make up. BINX trusts Rue to help them, as they don't think Rue is like the members of the Court of Wonder who destroyed their court. Rue agrees to give BINX their full support.

BINX chooses Rue to be her second at an abandoned tailor's shop when holding a meeting with Hob. Before they meet with Hob, BINX tells Rue that she knows about the relationship between them and Hob, and although she thinks not many people know about it, some people are talking. She badly attempts to comfort Rue, which doesn't help but Rue appreciates. Rue tells BINX that they Hob just makes them happy, and they barely know Hob but feel like they understand him well. BINX encourages them to go for it, and offers to help them choose an outfit to look amazing when they see him. When Hob and BINX badmouth the Court of Wonder, Rue knocks over a ventriloquist's dummy in shock but doesn't say anything about it, appreciating his and BINX's feelings about it but feeling protective of their Court.

Rue turns BINX into a golden frog so they can join Rue's conversation with the Seafoam Court. Later at the masquerade ball, seeing Hob attempt to push Andhera towards BINX, Rue tries to help by pushing BINX towards Andhera, although they both fail and almost start a fight.

After the confrontation with the Chorus, when Rue had discounted Hob and Wuvvy, BINX is who Rue goes to find.

In episode 9 (Theater of War), when Andhera offers all of the Pack of Pixies a position in his court, BINX says she would love to accept, but cannot as if she left her court it would die with her, and offers her own invitation to them all to join the Court of Craft.

During the play, BINX and Rue accidentally run into each other at the water's edge. BINX calls Rue her friend and says they have a deep loyalty for them. They have a confused conversation in which BINX tries to tell Rue Hob likes them, while Rue says he has no attraction to them, and thinks that BINX is lying to be nice. Rue asks, upset, if Hob loves them more than his duties. Andhera appears and says yes.

Lady Chirp Featherfowl[]

Rue is and has been the host of the Bloom for a long time, and has had to put up with Squak and Chirp's shenanigans very frequently. They find it fun both to have drama and to have the power to squash it when it arises, so although Squak apologises for their earlier behaviour and vows to be better, Rue challenges them to a wager in order to entice them into their worst behaviour. Unable to back down from a wager, Chirp and Squak accept. Rue's wager states that Squak and Chirp must not misbehave, and must find an appropriate love match by the end of the Bloom. These terms were laid out during a meeting between Rue, Chirp & Squak, during which Squak and Chirp attempt several power moves against Rue - shortening their chair so that Rue is sat physically below the twins, and giving Rue water while the cousins drank real tea. Rue artfully outmaneuvered all these power moves.

In Duel on the Southern Lawn, Rue, Squak and Chirp become closer after a friendly meeting, but Rue later becomes angry with Chirp for broadcasting that "Rue's assistant" had initiated a duel against K. P. Hob. Chirp doesn't tell Rue that it was in fact Squak who made this decision.

When Rue enters the tea party in episode 4 (Seaside Teatime), Chirp sends some doves carrying olive branches as a literal olive branch, in an attempt to make Rue's entrance more glamourous.

Chirp speaks to Rue at the Masquerade, and when asked, tells them that she is in love, causing Rue to think that Chirp has won the bet, and Rue hugs and congratulates her. Chirp encourages Rue to go after what they want, and Rue looks to Hob. Chirp doesn't know who they are looking at, but gives Rue a supportive slap on the ass.

In episode 8 (The Rule of Sneakery), in their conversation with the Chorus, Rue reveals that the prize for the wager would be for Chirp or Squak to become the new Master of Ceremonies.

When Rue interrupts the cousins trying to kill Andhera for what they know, the two of them accidentally spill their meeting spot and their plans.

Chirp gives everyone a "bluebird tooth" - a bluebird that sits in their ear - so they can keep in contact at the theater.

Viscountess Grabalba[]

There is a false rumour in place at the Bloom, as spread by Boil and Blemish, that Grabalba and Prince Apollo's engagement was called off because Rue was in love with Grabalba and is friends with Apollo.

Major K. P. Hob[]

Hob and Rue work together during the Great Hart Hunt, during which Hob upsets Rue by telling them that they were ruining his trap by being too obvious. Hob is surprised that Rue cares what he thinks, as he had never experienced that before, and Rue tells Hob that parts of his personality which the Goblin Court don't appreciate were still wonderful traits which Rue appreciates.

Rue realises in episode 3 (Duel on the Southern Lawn) that they have developed feelings for Hob, which they expresse in a letter which they write out loud while in earshot of Wuvvy. Wuvvy expresses excited surprise, but on realising how surprising it was, Rue becomes self conscious, and feels that their feelings and expression of them are unbecoming, so they magical order Wuvvy to burn the letter. Wuvvy remembers the letter and goes to recite it to Hob, but stumbles across Hob writing a letter out loud to Wrackingspelt, the contents of which appear to be romantic. Wuvvy challenges Hob to a duel for hurting Rue's feelings, and since she refuses to tell him what he had supposedly done wrong to fix his error, he accepts. Wuvvy later lets Andhera fight the duel in her place. After the duel, Hob insinuates that the duel has to do with the broken engagement between Grabalba and Apollo, which had been called off due to Rue's supposed feelings for Grabalba.

Hob, being confused as to why the duel took place, believes that it was because he is so far beneath Rue and so bad at socialising that they were offended at his attempts.

Before Hob and BINX's meeting at the abandoned tailor's shop, Rue tells BINX that Hob just makes them happy, and, while they barely know Hob, they feel like they understand him well. BINX encourages them to go for it. When Hob sees Rue, he visibly has to take a deep breath, but Rue doesn't notice, and Andhera reads surface thoughts of being completely enamoured, but self deprecating about it. When Hob and BINX badmouth the Court of Wonder, Rue knocks over a ventriloquist's dummy in shock but doesn't say anything about it, appreciating his and BINX's feelings about it but feeling protective of their Court. When Hob reveals that the K in K. P. stands for Knickolas, Rue very loudly sighs dreamily and exclaims in their brain that they love him, which Andhera hears. Rue feels very anxious and their heart starts beating fast when he shakes the hand of BINX transformed into a frog brooch because his hand almost touches their bosom. When Andhera and BINX leave, Rue tells Hob that he was used by his court and he should be less impulsive and look after himself more. He gives Rue one of his medals, a medal of courage, and leaves tearfully.

Later at the masquerade, when Chirp encourages Rue to go after what they want, Rue looks to Hob. When the fireworks go off, Hob becomes startled and runs to protect Rue by throwing his arms around them. The two of them talk, during which Hob tries to ask to put his name on their dance card, but then assumes that it is full. Rue in fact says it is empty, and Hob says that he is surrounded by fools, and asks permission to write his name down. They say yes, and write their own name on his, telling him that they are also fools for missing out on the opportunity to dance with him. Hob looks at them in the eye, and eats the dance card. After many dances at the masquerade (mainly because of Hob eating his dance card preventing anyone else from having a turn) Hob whispers into Rue's ear and reveals that the P in K. P. Hob stands for Pnackleless.

The next day, Rue sends a letter to Hob professing their feelings for him, and asking for his thoughts on the matter, but it is never delivered as Wuvvy rips it up.

After their confrontation with the Chorus, all Rue wants to do is to be consoled by Hob, but they "thought better of it." Later, Hob goes to Wrackingspelt and confides that he has fallen in love. He then rides Wrackingspelt to the abandoned tailor's, where he meets BINX. In response to BINX's awkwardness surrounding the subject of Andhera, Hob repliesm, "Hey listen, I should know about falling in love at the Bloom last night!" The two of them stammer at each other for a bit before BINX and Hob admit their respective love for Andhera and Rue, and both cry. Hob tries to comforts her when she becomes anxious about Andhera, referring to her as Ms. Choppley, after which they tell him to call her BINX. He tells her that given Andhera and her stations, it is nowhere near as unlikely for them as it is for him and Rue and impresses that, "In love and war, you must not miss your moment to strike." He calls Rue "the most singularly courageous, ethereally beautiful, constant, kind and true fey I have ever met," and says that, "There may be no single fairy for whom there is more credit for joy and wonder than Delloso de la Rue." He calls the night of the ball "an act of graciousness" and states that he doesn't want to squander the memory by asking for more, and doesn't want to bother them when they are already so busy. BINX suggests that if Rue joined the Court of Craft, Hob could marry Rue instead and have that be his political alliance.

Rue is one of the group who Hob chanced upon after being attacked by Apollo, and Rue becomes very protective and angry when Hob tries to talk around the subject, and screams at Squak when he gets distracted from performing surgery.

The two share an intense conversation before going to the theater, with Hob only understanding following orders and Rue only understanding being more impulsive in their own interests. Hob doesn't know how he would cope if he wasn't recieving orders. Rue tells him they think they might be very different people. Hob expresses his opinion that he thinks Rue spent the masquerade with him out of obligation or kindness, and that he spends his life in the pursuit of the happiness of others. Rue tells him they hope he finds happiness in that, and walks away.

During the play, BINX and Rue accidentally run into each other at the water's edge. BINX calls Rue her friend and says she has a deep loyalty for them. They have a confused conversation in which BINX tries to tell Rue Hob likes them, while Rue says he has no attraction to them, and thinks that BINX is lying to be nice. Rue asks, upset, if Hob loves them more than his duties. Andhera appears and says yes.

Hob finds out from the Seafoam Court that Rue is the one who broke off the engagement between Apollo and Grabalba (since they knew it was for power, not love), and goes to confront them about it. Rue becomes upset and tries to excuse themself from the conservation, and Hob accuses them of manipulating him by making him fall in love with them so he couldn't continue to search for the perpetrator (although he uses subtler words than these). Rue becomes angry and tells him, "Ii thought you were different," and bemoans the fact that he always thinks of the court before himself. Rue says everything they did was for love, and Hob interprets that as love of their court. He reiterates his belief that Rue only danced with him as an act of service, before Rue tells him they love him, and they are upset they never got a response to their letter. They danced with him because they cared for him, and that they only pulled away in the forest so he wouldn't feel through their glamour.

Hob reacts confused, having never received a letter, before receiving a message from Squak telling them to get there faster. Hob appeals to Rue, telling them if they were really in this, they should join him now. They do.

During the denouement, Hob bursts into the Library where Andhera is, asking for what they found out at the tailor shop when they were reading minds. Andhera responds that he didn't dig very deep out of respect for Rue and BINX, but he picked up a lot of "vibes". Hob then shakes Andhera aggressively and yells, "BE MORE SPECIFIC!" Andhera exasperatedly tells him to just tell Rue how he feels, and Hob hugs him.

Hob goes to Rue, and tells them again that they never received a letter from them, but he doesn't want to hear their answer before he confesses, as he wants to be brave and honourable for the first time as his life. He defines honour and bravery as "the pursuit of what is right when circumstances are against you [...] the doing of what is good and noble when the world conspires to prevent you from it," and he doesn't believe he's ever been either before in his life. He starts by asking "for your hand, and for a kiss". Rue responds, "Honourably, I accept." They kiss for a long time, and Hob tells Rue they are beautiful and brave. He removes his military uniform, and says, "There is one injury of yours that must be amended. You said that you felt alone. Never here. Not while I draw breath," renouncing the Goblin Court. They kiss again.

Lord Squak Airavis[]

Rue is and has been the host of the Bloom for a long time, and has had to put up with Squak and Chirp's shenanigans very frequently. They find it fun both to have drama and to have the power to squash it when it arises. So although Squak apologises for their earlier behaviour and vows to be better, Rue challenges them to a wager in order to entice them into their worst behaviour. Unable to back down from a wager, Chirp and Squak accept. Rue's wager states that Squak and Chirp must not misbehave, and must find an appropriate love match by the end of the Bloom. These terms are laid out during a meeting between Rue, Chirp, and Squak, during which Squak and Chirp attempt several power moves against Rue. These include shortening their chair so that Rue is sat physically below the twins, and giving Rue water while the cousins drink real tea. Rue artfully outmaneuvers all these power moves.

In episode 3 (Duel on the Southern Lawn), Rue, Squak, and Chirp become closer after a friendly meeting, but Rue later becomes angry with Chirp for broadcasting that "Rue's assistant" had initiated a duel against K. P. Hob. Chirp doesn't tell Rue that it was in fact Squak who made this decision.

In episode 8 (The Rule of Sneakery), during their conversation with the Chorus, Rue reveals that the prize for the wager would be for Chirp or Squak to become the new Master of Ceremonies.

When Rue interrupts the cousins trying to kill Andhera for what they know, the two of them accidentally spill their meeting spot and their plans.

Squak agrees with and repeats BINX's sentiment that the Pack of Pixies are family. Rue screams at Squak when he gets distracted from performing surgery on Hob, and then gives him shoulder rubs to help him while it happens.

Wannessa[]

During the seaside teatime, Rue tells Wannessa that BINX's offer to test their tea for them was very kind in Fey culture. Wannessa tries to avoid drinking the magical tea, but they intimidate her into trying the potions. She takes one that makes her like Rue romantically, but only when Andhera isn't within ten feet due to his charm force field.

The Wavemaster[]

After hearing the rumours that the Seafoam Court are unhappy with their credit for the Bloom, Rue writes a letter asking to meet to discuss their thoughts on the Bloom, to which the Wavemaster agrees, The Wavemaster tells them that they don't care much about the parties, and are worried about being attacked by the Court of Wonder. They apologise to Rue for making rude implications about them in the invitation to the masquerade, and Sorwen, the Seacourt's champion, tells Rue that it's possible to change courts if they wish,

The Court of Wonder[]

Rue was born a wild owlbear in the Material Plane, and raised by Archfey of the Court of Wonder. So they feel protective when Hob and BINX badmouth it, but they recognise their right to do so given the misdeeds done against them by the Court. Rue themselves admit they rarely feel at home in the Court of Wonder, and are mistreated by it. They are rarely there by design, which is why they find it hard to recognise Gwyndolin Thistle-hop (though this is a disguise by BINX) despite both being from the same court. They feel like they don't know anyone there anymore, but still feel loyalty to it. They do feel upset though that all their words are viewed as part of the court.

Rue went to go speak with the Chorus in episode 8 (The Rule of Sneakery). They praise Rue, and deny involvement in the dissolution of the Court of Craft. They admonish Rue when they ask them about certain rumours, asking why they care about "the murmurings of lesser Fey". They apologise for keeping Rue at arms length, and offer Rue a position in the Chorus after the Bloom. Rue reveals that the prize for the wager with the Lords of the Wing would be for Chirp or Squak to become the new Master of Ceremonies, which the Chorus disapproves of, as they wanted to keep the title in their court. They prefer Wuvvy as the new Master of Ceremonies. Rue becomes upset, and starts talking about how they had done their best to foster relationships between courts through the Bloom. The Chorus telss them they are not upset by "your outburst" as it is "in your nature," and warns them, "It it better to stand with us." Rue completes the thought, "Than against us?"

Wuvvy[]

Wuvvy is Rue's assistant. Wuvvy looks up to Rue and wishes to be like them, but is unable to emulate their calm demeanor and, in in fact, is often very stressed when things go wrong. In these cases, Rue helps her to regulate her breathing. Rue seems to like Wuvvy, and allows her to help with things that are usually private, such as reading their letters out loud to them. Due to Wuvvy's busy schedule working for Rue, she has neglected the Court of Hoof and Claw, and, therefore, are no longer affiliated with them. (She had previously been their champion.)

Wuvvy considers Rue to be her best friend, and they both love each other deeply.

Rue realises in episode 3 (Duel on the Southern Lawn) that they have developed feelings for Hob, which they express in a letter that they write out loud while in earshot of Wuvvy. Wuvvy expresses excited surprise, but on realizing how surprising it was, Rue becomes self conscious, thinking that their feelings and expression of them were unbecoming. So they magically order Wuvvy to burn the letter, which is something they had never done before. Wuvvy remembers the letter, and goes to recite it to Hob. However she stumbles across Hob writing a letter out loud to Wrackingspelt, the contents of which appeared to be romantic. Wuvvy challenges Hob to a duel for hurting Rue's feelings, and, since she refuses to tell him what he had supposedly done wrong to fix his error, he accepts. Wuvvy later lets Andhera fight the duel in her place.

Rue becomes reclusive for a while afterwards, and won't see Wuvvy, despite the fact that they both miss each other. They open up to each other, and Wuvvy convinces Rue to look after their own interests and show their true selves, promising to protect them.

The two showed up at the masquerade together in matching black-and-white outfits, Wuuvy's being the white copy of Rue's black ensemble. Afterwards, Rue writes a letter to Hob confessing how their time with him at the ball convinced them they were in love with him, and in episode 8, asks Wuvvy to deliver it to Hob.

Wuvvy and Rue then have a conversation regarding Wuvvy’s own enjoyment in the Bloom, and how it derives from helping Rue in carrying out the beautiful events, not necessarily participating in them. Rue expresses how they may no longer be the Bloom Master if their heart takes them somewhere else, to which Wuvvy seems saddened and slightly off. Rue feels they can no longer confide in Wuvvy given an awkward conversation regarding her invested interest in managing the Bloom and the Chorus of the Court of Wonder stating that Wuvvy may take Rue’s place when they are to reti After this conversation, Wuvvy rips up the letter to Hob.

Rue sees Wuvvy after their confrontation with Hob, and realizes that Wuvvy wanted to protect them. Wuvvy later grapples Suntar to end the spell on Hob the princess had placed on him to make Rue happy.

Rue finds Wuvvy during the denouement to thank Wuvvy for what she did (and what she always has done), for Rue. They also tell her that they are leaving the Court of Wonder and their title as Master of Ceremonies, so Wuvvy is no longer bound to them. Wuvvy responds that she was never bound to them. She apologizes for her actions, and tells them she loves them with her whole heart and wants them to be happy. Wuvvy tells them that they can now be just friends and peers. Rue tells her that they also love her, they forgive her, and that they hope she can also forgive them. Wuvvy does.
