The Elven Oracle is a potent arcane title, allotted to the most prodigious diviner amongst the elven people in the world. It is a station filled by one Elf at a time exclusively, chosen through an unknown arcane force to wield the power of prophecy.
When a new Oracle is appointed, they are momentarily visited by the spectral form of their predecessor while floating and being surrounded by motes of silvery light.
Description[]
The oracle is highly respected and typically resides in Fallinel in the Chapel of Stars above the Hill of Trees in the bowels of a hard to pronounce elven location.
The elven people claim to be lost without her. She can give prophecies of the future and see the strands of fate, though these abilities can be overcome with powerful illusion magic and a lack of preparation.
Known Oracles[]
Eleminthindriel[]
The previous oracle. She was part of the first Council of Chosen and assisted in the defeat of Kalvaxus. Her paramour was Arthur Aguefort, the secretary of the Council.
Mere moments after Aguefort bound Kalvaxus, Eleminthindriel delivered a prophecy:
"When Kalvaxus once again beholds his glittering treasure, And seven maidens are once more chained at the mouth of his lair, When war befalls the realm, And a king and queen are crowned anew in Solace, Then will the Emperor of the Red Waste be released from bondage. His destruction will know no bounds. The sun shall fall from the heavens, And the world as we know it shall perish forever."
She spoke with Queen Alexandria about this prophecy, and promised to return if there was ever trouble. At the start of Kalvaxus's next rise to power, she boarded the Cerulean on her way back to Solace, and the ship sank, killing her.
Adaine Abernant[]
After Eleminthindriel died, Adaine became the next oracle, though she was not aware of it. She learns of her new title after reading the first few pages of Watches and Wards, which can only be removed from the restricted section of Aguefort Adventuring Academy's library by Arthur Aguefort himself or the oracle. Adaine stole the book on her first day of school, which also happened to be her first day as oracle, on a dare from her sister, who is later found to be a conspirator of Kalvaxus.
During Adaine's sophomore year, she is kidnapped from her adventuring party by her father and the Court of Stars. They bring her to Calethriel Tower in Fallinel and ask for her cooperation in staying where she "belongs" in Fallinel, and in locating her mother, Arianwen. She refuses and disowns her father for treating her so horribly as a child. They keep her prisoner in a magical anti-trance orb until her friends arrive to rescue her.
Adaine prefers to refer to herself as "everyone's oracle", as she feels no allegiance to Fallinel or her family after they abandoned her and fled in the aftermath of her freshman year.
During her junior year, the Elven Oracle becomes a paid position after Fabian wins a dance battle against an eternal dancer of the Court of Stars as Adaine's Champion. Fabian becomes the Oracle of Dance, as well as Adaine's Champion in any future dance battles.
