Description[]
The Clever Fox and Cunning Rabbit are two trickster spirits who, along with Cat, act as archetypal beings of chaos in the stories of the Neverafter. Their role is to disrupt the order of stories, in either benevolent or malevolent ways. They tend to die often, as is their role in the stories, but are merely sent back to The Inbetween in a forest full of traps before returning to the realm of stories.
Background[]
Fox and Rabbit have lived countless lives in various stories throughout the stories of the Neverafter. In another version of his story, PiB remembers meeting Pinocchio with the Fox.
History[]
Once Upon a Time[]
PiB encounters Fox and Rabbit in traps after he dies. However, they are not actually trapped. As trickster spirits, they were just hoping to trick him, and entrap him as a joke. Cat (aka PiB) and Fox argue briefly over which one should be reincarnated, but Fox eventualy allows for PiB to return.
The Trials of Baba Yaga[]
While PiB is carrying out his chore for Baba Yaga, he happens to find his way into the Inbetween. As he arrives, he sees Fox in a giant's foot as though he had been stepped on, as well as Rabbit in a snare. Having tried to trick him into thinking they were dead before, PiB is able to see that they are once again pretending to try and trick him. Commenting that he is one step ahead of them, Fox indicates a mountain range that is "just around the corner" that he should choose for Baba Yaga's hut through the Neverafter. The mountains turn out to be giants.
