- His design is inspired by J. Jonah Jameson, the head editor for the Daily Bugle in the Spider-Man comic series. The Daily Observer may also be an allusion to this.
- His design could also be an allusion to Perry White, the editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet in the Superman comic series. With the name of his newspaper, as well as the rotating eye atop the building alluding to that paper and the spinning globe atop the Daily Planet building.
- The Daily Observer itself shares a theme tune with the Dropout show Breaking News, though minus the sting at the end.
