He is the chosen one, and he will chart the destiny of the known world.

Fabian Seacaster, to The Hangman, My Green Heaven

"Kiddo, I'm standing here with steak sauce in my hair. What I'm going to offer you for dinner tonight is an order of garlic knots that mistakenly came with a pizza I... found. I checked the receipt on the outside of the box. Things aren't going great for ol’ Gilear." ― Gilear to his daughter, Fig Faeth

Gilear Faeth is Fig Faeth's adoptive father and Sandra Lynn Faeth's ex-husband.

Description[]

Gilear is a wood elf who's lost some hair since his divorce and now wears it in a comb-over, which is a unique look on an elf. He's got a little bit of a paunch. He is often described as being sad and pitiable. He wears a short-sleeved king button up shirt which is often stained, usually with yogurt, but one time it was beans.

Gilear carries no weapons. He has an AC of 10 with 5 hit points total. He is 100% unfit for combat in any respect and has died four times.

He was once a counselor to Fallinel's diplomatic corps and provided information about the inner workings of different cultures beyond Fallinel. He met Sandra Lynn in Solace through work and quit his job to start a life with her.

Regardless of how pathetic Gilear may seem, he still cares deeply about his daughter, Fig, and maintains a relatively good relationship with Sandra Lynn. He tries to help when he can, though he often fails, so he usually advises against giving him any responsibilities. He often gets into the worst kinds of situations and is very often taken advantage of by anyone and everyone, as he is deeply depressed.

Gilear is believed by the Bad Kids (namely Fig and Fabian) to be "The Chosen One". As such, he's destined to be a planetar, but Brennan Lee Mulligan claims that Gilear must die first to do so.[1]

Recorded Seasons[]

Fantasy High[]

Gilear is first introduced on his daughter's first day of school at Aguefort Adventuring Academy. He is recently divorced from Sandra Lynn and moved into Strongtower Luxury Apartments after discovering that he was not Fig's biological father. When Fig misses the bus, Sandra Lynn calls him and asks him to come pick her up and drive her to school. Gilear shows up with bean stains on his shirt.

He tells Fig he's there to take her to school, and Fig excuses herself to the bathroom. She returns disguised as Sandra Lynn and tells Gilear that she's changed her mind, that Fig is staying home. She continues talking about who her real father is, and Gilear offers to drive them to see him about the paternity test. In reality, he drives her to school. This has been described by Brennan as a moment of divine intervention where he as the DM reached in and controlled Gilear into doing something right, in order to temper Emily's chaos and begin the story.

Fig visits Gilear in his apartment and suggests that he apply for one of the job openings at Aguefort Adventuring Academy. Gilear offers her some yogurt, saying that he bought too much and it was going to expire in a day or two, although Fig later discovered that it had already expired. This appeared to be the beginning of Gilear's notorious love of yogurt.

Fig and Gilear went together to school to see Goldenhoard. Gilear offered to fill the position of guidance counselor, only to find that the position had already been filled by Jawbone, the werewolf drug dealer who bit Adaine at The Black Pit and got a job recommendation from The Bad Kids. Desperate for a job, Gilear filled Doreen's position and became the "Lunch Lad" at Aguefort.

Fig tries to get Gilear and Riz Gukgak's mom, Sklonda Gukgak, together. They share a few romantic moments before the relationship pans out with Gilear saying that "she was too much woman for me". However, at the end of Season 1, at the funeral of William "Bill" Seacaster, Gilear catches the eye of Hallariel Seacaster who shows a romantic interest in him. Fabian protests, saying that he is too much out of his mother's league, and that he'll kill him. But she ignores his protests and threatens to kill him before he kills Gilear.

After defeating Kalvaxus, Arthur Aguefort agrees to make Gilear the Vice Principal of Aguefort Adventuring Academy at the request of Fig, despite the fact that Aguefort had never met Gilear but was wildly interested that he was the Lunch Lad.

Sophomore Year[]

Against his wishes, Gilear is recruited to the Bad Kids as a hireling on their sophomore year adventure. His first title is intern, and he (badly) fetches them all coffee on their first morning out. Gilear travelled with the Bad Kids on their adventures. He was occasionally allowed to drive, hold things, or make frittatas, and died extremely frequently, though he was able to offer some fatherly advice and comfort to Fig after she was controlled by Kalina.

When Fig receives a subpoena to be a witness in the tribunal against her father, Gorthalax, Gilear suggests that he could go to Hell with Fig to help her in Gorthalax's trial, as he had worked in legal affairs before. Upon entering The Bottomless Pit he was immediately knocked unconscious by fire rain, after which the Hangman reluctantly put Gilear under his protection, with a fiery rune on his forehead. In the actual trial Gilear got too scared to say anything and was of ultimately no help, but he did promise to work to turn his life around when he learned that Fig felt guilt for the quality of his life.

After returning from hell, The Bad Kids collectively decide that Gilear should stay out of Sylvaire, because "he has died maybe nine times". Not wanting to let his daughter down, Gilear stole the Armor of Pride and hid in The Ball's briefcase. When Fig and Riz were captured in Sylvaire, Gilear put on the Armor of Pride and jumped out of the briefcase to save them. Initially he was able to withstand it very well due to his complete lack of pride and having caught the tip of his penis in the fastening, but as soon as he started to kick ass he started to feel pride, and the armor killed him immediately. Fig subsequently brought him back to life yet again, and the Bad Kids agree that Gilear was shockingly cool in this moment. Fabien and Riz also discover that Gilear has an improbably large penis.

The Seven[]

Gilear is seen (weakly) telling some students to not "roughhouse" on school grounds. He is wedgied by an invisible Arthur Aguefort

Fantasy High: Junior Year[]

Upon returning home from The Bad Kids adventure to stop the Night Yorb, Fabian manages to catch Gilear and his mother, Hallariel before they leave for a cruise. Gilear had won the tickets for the cruise after being caught up in a robbery on a convenience store. It is also revealed that during that summer he and Hallariel got engaged. It is later shown that his newfound luck is continuous, and that Gilear's previous luck (revealed to have been caused by a familial curse) was transferred to his daughter, Fig. The lifting of this curse caused Gilear to experience extreme luck, finding a dog that grants wishes, being elected mayor, and contracting a disease where the only symptom was the ability to eat cookies all day without consequence, among others. Gilear expressed displeasure with his newfound gift, wishing for his old luck, and vowing to Fig that he will break his luck streak. After Fig breaks the curse off her, Gilear regained his old bad luck, accidentally blinding himself with a spoonful of yogurt.

Following Fabians birthday, the events of Ragenarock, and the return of Seacaster manor to original location, Gilear and Hallariel return interrupting Fabians first time with Mazey Phaedra. Following this Hallariel announces they are getting a dog to Fabians quiet relief, which Gilear then ruins by informing him that it is to protect his and Hallariels new child. Fabian declares war.

Live Shows[]

Fantasy High LIVE in Brooklyn[]

Gilear stops Fabian just as he's about to leave for school on the Hangman. He needs a ride because the engine of his car is full of bees, lured there by the honey from the special gnomish yogurt he gets from the yogurt subscription Hallariel bought him, which was put into the engine because he thought it was a front storing trunk. On the ride there— which is the absolute last time ever, ever, ever he gets a ride— he mentions he and Hallariel doing... something together and, completely fed up, Fabian drops him off two blocks away.

Fantasy High LIVE at RTX Austin[]

Gilear is seen acting as the vice principal at Aguefort and gets invited to Zelda's rager by Fig who wins his attendance by calling him her dad. He also tells The Bad Kids where Fabian is in the form of a letter that calls Gilear a half-man in comparison to his father, Bill Seacaster, whom Fabian states was a full-man. Gilear attends the party at Fig's request in disguise as Fabian Seacaster and does a very bad job impersonating him even calling Fabian Riz's sidekick.

Relationships[]

Fig Faeth[]

At first, Fig resents her dad for leaving her and rejecting her as his own child. But as the season progresses, Fig accepts her father and grows closer to him, and eventually moving into Strongtower Luxury Apartments with him. Fig becomes proud of both of her fathers, Gorthalax and Gilear.

Throughout Sophomore Year, Fig tries to protect Gilear and help him do better for himself. Later, while in hell together with Riz and the Hangman, Fig reveals that she has been feeling guilty for the quality of Gilear's life as she is the "living embodiment of someone betraying [him]", and Gilear vows to turn his life around. When Fig and Riz are captured in Sylvaire, Gilear puts on the Armor of Pride and destroys an army of demons, sacrificing his life to save his daughter.

Sandra Lynn Faeth[]

Sandra Lynn is Gilear's ex-wife and Fig's mother. They divorced after Fig's horns grew in and Gilear learned that he was not her father and that Sandra Lynn had been unfaithful to him. Sandra Lynn implied that the marriage was not great even before this, and that they had not had sex for about a year and a half before the divorce.

They seem to have a relatively good relationship in Sophomore Year, and both travel with The Bad Kids on their spring break adventure. While in hell, Gilear tells Fig and Riz that they had had a really good conversation and talked through a lot of things that had not been said, and that Sandra Lynn had then made a flirty comment and a 'pregnant pause', and that he had rejected her advances.

Hallariel Seacaster[]

Gilear and Hallariel Seacaster meet at the funeral of Bill Seacaster and Gilear introduces himself as the Vice Principal of the Aguefort Adventuring Academy. They start dating and Gilear starts living in the garage of Seacaster Manor. Fabian is extremely displeased with the relationship and threatens to kill Gilear on several occasions, but Hallariel tells him that if Gilear dies, she will duel him to the death. They are engaged in Fantasy High: Junior Year.

Bill Seacaster[]

After getting killed by Bill Seacaster for being in a relationship with Hallariel(his ex-wife), they are now even.

Fabian Seacaster[]

Fabian was initially enraged by the relationship between Gilear and his mother, and was desperate to bring him on the mission with them so that he had a higher chance of dying. However, during the fight at Hotel Cavalier after two demons ran past him to attack Gilear, Fabian became convinced that Gilear was the chosen one and had a part yet to play, making a very quick 180 flip into a pro-Gilear stance. In Junior Year when Gilear declares Fabian as his stepson, Fabian tolerates it.

Riz Gukgak[]

If there is one truth that can be universally agreed upon, it is that The Ball loves Gilear.

Gorgug Thistlespring[]

Gorgug, by his own declaration, is NOT friends with Gilear.

Trivia[]

  • When Gilear is first introduced, he was eating beans out of tins, but then changes his allegiance to yogurt and turkey crackers. He eventually branches out into making frittatas, but Kristen comments that they are cold as if they have been in the freezer.
  • Gilear is proficient in persuasion, canceling out his -2 charisma and giving him a simple +0.
  • The last time Gilear was on a carousel, he accidentally sat on a living centaur, and he was subsequently banned from the county fair in perpetuity.
  • Gilear Faeth has repeatedly accidentally drank hand sanitiser. This is put into his margaritas by the wait staff of a Mexican restaurant, where he goes often but cannot tip in anything but the restaurant’s own vouchers as he accidentally converted all of his money into this currency.
  • Upon request to "give Gilear one thing", Brennan Lee Mulligan simply responded with "athlete's foot".
  • Gilear is canonically hung like a horse and has 100% sperm concentration.
