History

Jack used to have a partner, Cosmo Chase, who was gunned down in the line of duty, and a wife, Lucy Santangelo, who is in the process of divorcing him.

He came to Los Angeles to solve the case of his partner's death by the hands of, presumably, the Belgian mafia, and met and started working with Chief Lieutenant Kosciusko.

• The name of the movie Jack is from seems to reference Die Hard and Bruce Willis' character John McClane, an NYPD detective whose rocky relationship with his estranged wife Holly is a recurring theme across the franchise.
