The Jacket of Useful Things, formerly the Robe of Useful Things, is a magical piece of clothing that can produce any item worth 10 GP or less, up to a value of 100 GP per day.
The jacket was purchased from the Gilded Coin by Adaine Abernant, using a gift card given by Fabian Seacaster.
Description[]
The jacket has many pockets; it is made of denim and lined with wool. It was previously a robe but the previous owner changed it.
Properties[]
The jacket is able to produce useful items from any of its pockets when asked. Anything worth more than 10 gold pieces like gold and jewels cannot be produced by the jacket. Any living creature you pull out will live what is known as a "half-life" and will immediately try to kill itself.
In the extradimensional space inside the jacket resides a whole civilization of beings.
Background[]
The Robe of Useful Things was crafted by Elven archmagi in time immemorial. The most recent archmagi of the Elves, Elamir Buchanan, sought to modernize it, changing it into a denim wool-lined jacket.
History[]
Cool Kids, Cold Case[]
Adaine Abernant buys the jacket from Madam Silvaine at the Gilded Coin. When asked, it produces a sandwich and an oyster.
After leaving the shop, Adaine reaches in and asks for the last thing the last owner put in there. The jacket produces a note that reads "i'm hiding in the jacket, please don't take me out." Fig Faeth then casts Detect Thoughts on the jacket, getting the thoughts of thousands maybe millions of streams of consciousnesses. Adaine then asks how many people are inside the jacket and produces a note that reads "mind your own fucking business."
Adaine's Identify spell then explains that "the creatures taking refuge in the jacket are various refugees, criminals, and hideaways that live in a city at the centre of the extra dimensional space within the jacket. They live complex lives form relationships, nations rise and fall, and they have no way of exiting the jacket."
Prompocalypse[]
To save the jacket, a man jumps out of the pocket and hands Adaine a wand.
