Appearance[]
Jackson is a 5'4 Chinese-American man in his late 50's to early 60's, two or three years younger than Tony Simos. He is described as an 'extremely built' older guy, wearing a Mets windbreaker and hat, with comfortable athletic sandals and socks.
Background[]
Jackson first joined the Order of the Concrete Fist in the late 1980s, while Tony Simos was First Fist. Some time after, the two got into a screaming match about Tony going too far. Jackson reasoned that for Tony being in the Order was a personal vendetta and that his judgement was blinded.
Around 1991, Tony found a ritual in one of the scrolls involving pressure points and ritualistic scarring of his own heart tissue that allowed him to stop himself from dreaming. After doing so, he was confronted again by Jackson, a young Solomon Ojukwu, and the then-Abbess of the Monastery, and they insisted he was going too far. Jackson argued that the Order's purpose was to protect the city, but that Tony no longer cared about the city. Tony threatened to start his own Monastery, where he'd "finish what they started" and "actually get the job done".
Later, he returned to apologize to the group and step down as First Fist, recognizing that Jackson was a superior monk. Cindy Wong, who seemed to think very highly of Tony, was distraught by the situation, and spoke briefly with Jackson about whether or not Tony was a "good man". Jackson held that pain can make people do all sorts of ill-advised things, but even though the Order is supposed to protect the city from the beings of Dreaming, Tony should not have changed himself and his soul the way he did.
History[]
We Need to Talk About Pete[]
Jackson is first introduced as a mysterious stranger when he runs into Sofia Bicicleta in a drug store and criticizes her for looking at self-help books. He initially seems confrontational, but after sparring with her, and learning that she was married to Dale Lee and chosen by La Gran Gata, he invites her to study with him at the Monastery of the Midnight Sun.
Home for the Holidays[]
Later, Jackson accompanies Sofia to Green Hill Cemetery to visit Dale's grave, and explains to her more about the time he spent with Dale and what they were working on together, including the legend of the chosen one.
After a fight at the Gramercy Occult Society, Jackson's constitution is significantly depleted, and eventually he decides to retire, passing the running of the monastery on to Sophia.
