The Unsleeping City: Chapter II

Description[]

Josephina was an impossibly wealthy heiress who threw the best parties. She lived in an incredibly opulent manor penthouse. However, she also struggled with debilitating loneliness and addiction.

Background[]

Towards the end of her time as Vox, she struggled a lot with heartbreak. She didn't feel close to anyone in New York and therefore didn't have a connection to the city anymore. The loneliness contributed to her addictions, and she spiraled out, becoming completely unattached to anyone or anything in the waking world, as there was no Vox Populi at the time to ground her, like Kingston Brown does for Pete Conlan.

In one of her memories, she's looking into a mirror, but there's something wrong with her reflection.

History[]

Pigeon Plus Ones[]

Josefina is first mentioned by Misty Moore as the Dream Team attempts to get Pete to open up about his powers and his recent experiences as the new Vox Phantasma.

We Need to Talk About Cody[]

As Sofia Lee tells Pete about the depths of Nod, Pete accesses the memories of former Vox Phantasmi. Usually, he can see their last moments, but two seem to be missing, Hans Fischer and Josefina. Pete makes the connection that both of these Voxes had expressed a curiosity to explore the deeper parts of Nod beyond the limits of the sixth borough, and finds that neither of them had returned. As he scrolls through Josefina's memories, he sees that she didn't feel grounded in the waking world, as there was no Vox Populi at the time like there is for Pete, and spiraled in her struggles with loneliness and addiction. He briefly catches sight of the memory of her looking into a mirror, but when he goes back to take a second look, the memory is gone. He decides to see if it's still there in the Metropolitan Museum of Memories, and he invites Sofia to come with.

Nulla Dies Umquam Memori Vos Eximet Aevo[]

Two Sides of the Same Coin (Part 2)[]

After Nod was released from the center of Null, they released Josefina, Hans Fischer, and Heather Simos from the center of Null as well. Each of them were returned to their original time periods, Josefina's being 1929. The three of them all being connected across time.

Trivia[]

  • Brennan believes that each of the Voxes that were released from Null are psychically linked to the other two through dreams but across time.[1]
  • Brennan also believes that the Voxes of the past able to leave physical objects and clues in the Waking World for the Voxes yet to come, and the Voxes of the future reaching out in dreams to give warnings of things yet to come, their messages often warped or distorted by the vast stretches of time between them. Brennan believes that this is a timeline that's running concurrently to TUC-Prime, not changing its past but is reachable through the Sixth Borough.[2]
  • Given Josefina's surname and time period, she is most likely a reference to Jay Gatsby from F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby
