The Unsleeping City: Chapter II
|
Description[]
Josh is a very relaxed, friendly person. He shares a curtained-off living space with his best friend, Cody, and appears to side with him on most things, just on the principle that they're friends.
He has family way out west whom he can't afford to visit for Thanksgiving, so he's saving up his money to visit for Christmas.
History[]
The Fall of New York City[]
Josh is first introduced as one of his roommates, Nasir Noor, shows Pete Conlan around their home, as Pete is interested in the empty sub-let in the attic. He cheerfully greets Pete and asks Nasir if he's told Pete about their other roommates, Lars and Brita, yet. Nasir tries to be subtle in hinting that they bring a lot of people over to have sex, but Pete asks for clarification right out, as he's trying to be more straightforward about things. Josh confirms that yes, they do have a lot of people over for sex. Probably due to his own relaxed, chill nature, he tells Pete about their last roommate and his best friend, Cody Walsh, describing him as "super rad and super friendly".
Cody burst in, aggressively upset about his encounter with the police at the Queens Center Mall, and Josh explains that they both used to work there. He also mentions that they plan on putting up some plywood to more permanently partition off their section of the living room. Cody introduces himself to Pete and asks how he feels about mounted scythes, to which Nasir objects, reminding him that they'd already held a house vote on that issue. Josh, being Cody's best friend, seems to have been the only roommate to side with him.
Collaborators[]
After defeating the Jersey Devil, Cody arrives home to find an application for Gladiator in their room. Furious at Josh for considering working for the company that shut down their mall, he yells out for a house meeting, but Josh isn't home.
Parade of Peril[]
During the Macy's Parade, Officer Brunson, the police officer who confiscated Cody's buster sword a few weeks back, confronts Cody again about throwing his drink at Gladiator's float in the parade. He's in plain clothes and off-duty, so Kingston Brown uses his powers as Vox Populi to pressure him into leaving before he starts any trouble. Impressed, Cody claims this makes New York City Kingston's mall. Ricky Matsui asks, disbelievingly, if that's how people at the mall treat Cody, and Cody agrees, mentioning that Josh would be able to back him up, but he's just not there at the moment.
Feasts & Families[]
Josh joins Cody for Thanksgiving at Kingston's parents' apartment, since most of his family lives out west and he's too broke to travel. Here, he brings up his Gladiator application. He mentions that his unemployment is running out, and since Gladiator is about the only place that's hiring, Josh is in need of rent money. Cody attempts to persuade him to not to take the job, promising he'd find him another job, but his application has already been accepted. He's scheduled to start training in Connecticut the next day, which Cody is furious about, and Josh excuses himself to leave amid his insults of betrayal.
Let's Get Tiny[]
When Cody gets all his material possessions taken by the Arcana of Many Things, he returns home feeling defeated. His bed, swords, and even wall mounts are gone, so he takes down the sheet that separated his and Josh's "room" from the rest of the house (which wasn't taken since it belonged to Josh), and curls up in it.
Two Sides of the Same Coin (Part 2)[]
As part of the city-wide uprising against Gladiator, Josh helps to instigate a spontaneous mass strike at the Gladiator campus he's working on.
