Episodes Featuring Kerwyn Foehammer
Dungeons and Drag Queens

Description[]

Kerwyn is a proud warrior, and carries a massive sword. He wears noble clothing with epaulets and medals, though, in the Underworld, they are somewhat rotted. He has a strong jaw and tusks, the latter Troyánn thinks are sexy. He has salt and pepper hair, and long mutton chops that make his jaw look even bigger.

Background[]

Kerwyn was thought to have been killed during the burning of Castle Ravenspear along with the rest of the Foehammers, his heart being stopped by the Blood Queen, Zaria Hex. However, it turns out that he was merely pretending, helping Zaria carry out her goals.

History[]

Welcome to the Underworld[]

At the River of Sorrow, Princess and the rest of the Questing Queens fight against the undead attempting to use them to return to the world of the living. When only two remain, Kerwyn leaps to their defense, revealing that he is Princess's uncle. After telling him that she isn't dead, Princess asks him what happened during the destruction of Castle Ravenspear. He replies that, though the fire spread really quickly, he was able to see the flicker outline of a woman in red robes looking like a queen of blood. She had come to the castle in the middle of the night, and, taking his sword, pointed to the orc, saying, "This is the hour of your passing." Kerwyn's heart then stopped, and he fell dead before the fire was able to consume him. He continues that, since then, he has been searching the Underworld for any other members of the Foehammers he may find. He then continues to give the Queens information they need to continue their journey. Recognizing Troyánn, he tells her the person she normally does business with, Shalila of the Last Breath, is waiting in Hollowgrave at the Inn of the Empty Glass. When they say they don't want to meet her without the complete number of souls Troyánn needs to give to Shalila, he mentions Nyruth, a jackal-headed demon who is a seller of powerful magical wares, and has been known to trade in souls. Furthermore, when they hear the whispered name of Thanara in the wind, he explains that that is the name of the forgotten goddess of death. So, with their new companion leading the way, the group sets out to Nyruth in Hollowgrave.

While in Hollowgrave, Kerwyn continues to help with his knowledge of the area, pointing out the shimmering black volcanic stone tower that houses the Archive of Forgotten Things, and the abbey which holds the Longshadow Bazaar, which is where Nyruth will be. When they arrive at Nyruth's Curios, the orc decides it's best if he isn't seen, and keeps guard in the street while the Queens carry out their business. He continues to play this role of guard when the group arrives at the Inn of the Empty Glass, informing them of Shalila's arrival.

The Time Has Come[]

When the Queens set out across the desert on their magic carpet towards Shalila and the Tower of Tombs, Kerwyn is along for the ride. He is the one that initially suggests to invite Shailia to game night, which results in her handing over the necklace of souls back to Troyánn. He is also the one to point out when danger is approaching in the form of a soul storm. At the Tower, it is revealed that, in order to enter Thanara's throne room, the Questing Queens must find three keys, one of which is in the Pool of Morning Light which Kerwyn and Troyánn go to get. Deep pools fill the room, and when Kerwyn and Troyánn arrive, they see a pool that ripples from its center and a shimmer of light to indicate something like a key at the pool's bottom. The mer shoots a Seeking Arrow towards the key, and, her quarry marked, dives into the water. As she swims down, the assassin begins to see the faces of everyone she has killed in service to her mother's deal. As they surround her, Kerwyn jumps into the water, grabs her, and pulls her outside of the pool. Once safe outside the pool, he tells her that she's probably not going to be able to leave without dealing with the (literal) ghosts of her past, and goes to get the key himself.

One of the other keys is in the Hall of Fairy Tapestry which Princess and Twyla go off to get. After they find Queen Titania trapped within the tapestry and get the key, the fairy queen tells Princess she looks exactly like the spirits within the waterfall that flows across the entrance of the chamber. Princess and Twyla look to the water, seeing among their reflections, the images of Princess' family: her mother, Ronkaria, her father, Ronarian, her brother, Earl, and her sister, Duchess. After a tearful reunion, they then ask if Princess knows who killed them, to which Princess replies, "Zaria Hex." The Foehammers are confused by this answer, and tell her that that isn't possible, as Zaria was in the fey realms when they were killed. They then ask who told her that Zaria Hex killed them. She replies it was her uncle, Kerwyn, to which they excitedly exclaim that they knew he didn't die. This made Princess and Twyla realize he had been lying to them from the very start of their journey, and that he must have been the one helping the living allies of Zaria Hex navigate the Underworld.

Meanwhile, back in the Pool of Morning Light, Troyánn looks over at the Kerwyn's pile of clothing that he removed to get in the pool, and notices a wraith clasp on top of it, as well as something poking out of the pocket of his jacket which looks like a little book. Secretly, she takes it. It's a book of matches, matches that smell like cedar ie what Princess smelled the night Castle Ravenspear burned down. It's at this moment where she hears a voice behind her: Keena with her Canolin Hook of Death. Not long after, Kerwyn has pulls himself up out of the Pool holding the key. He is fully alive, no longer wearing his clasp, and greets Keena from across the room. He tells her he has one of the keys to Thanara's throne room. He just needs the other two. Putting on his clothes, he apologizes to Troyánn, explaining that he had made a deal to be able to wield the power of death. The price of that deal was ensuring every other Foehammer ended up in the Underworld. He then asks for Troyánn to surrender, as it is two against one, in order to let him finish his job by taking out Princess. Troyánn replies she'd rather risk her life to protect her friend. She then casts Prestidigitation, freezing some of the water in the room to icicles, and, using Gust of Wind, hurls them at her enemies hoping to stun them enough to take the key and escape into one of the pools. She manages to get the key, but not without taking the brunt of Kerwyn's sword as he flies into a rage. Ribs broken, she manages to grab her clothes, and dive into one of the pools.

Much later, when the Queens arrive in Thanara's throne room and request a boon from the goddess, she muses that good news, while she normally only grants three boons, she's feeling generous, and is willing to grant four. However, the bad news is, there are eight mortals present. Four more mortals comes out from behind Thanara's throne, including Kerwyn Foehammer. The goddess continues that she hasn't granted anyone's boons yet, and doesn't plan on doing so before "the show:" a fight to the death.

In the Heart of Death[]

"Apologizing" to Princess for deceiving her, Kerwyn flies into a rage, and jumps on top of the pillars in Thanara's Throne Room towards the Queens. In response, Princess flies into a rage of her own, confronting her uncle on the upper beams. He snarls at her, demanding to know why she had to survive, and how he always hated being a part of the Foehammers, the family's power wasted on sniveling do-gooders. He proclaims that she has stood between him and ultimate power for the last time, a threat Princess dismissively shrugs off. Kerwyn, unable to knock Princess back, jumps over and behind her, slicing her back with his sword. Attempting to help her ally, Troyánn leaps from her floating platform onto the one with Princess. She quickly takes out her longbow, setting her sights for Kerwyn. As the orc tries to intimidate his niece, saying no one has her back, he is hit twice by the mer's arrows, one of which begins to wrap Kerwyn in venomous sea kelp, and pulls him onto one knee. Seizing the opportunity, Princess begins to swing at her uncle with her new greataxe. Saying, "Merry Christmas, motherfucker," she lands three blows to Kerwyn, though he is confused by the statement as it is only mid-March. He doesn't have long to contemplate this, though, as the force of Princess, combined with the spirits of her family and the support of her friends, screams, "And a happy new year!" knocking him off the raised beam into the abyss. As the darkness consumes him, he is faced with the shadows of every Foehammer he sent to the Underworld in service to his lust for power.
