Description[]
When the Intreped Heroes first meet Mürrisch, Schläfrig, and Arzt, the dwarves who have captured Koschei's soul, it is wrapped in a seal skin to hide his very strong odor. The smell is later described as a "very old hard boiled egg with a needle inside. " All that is mentioned by Arzt is that it is a hare and that, in that hare, is a duck before Ylfa Snorgelsson realizes who it is that is being described.
Background[]
"Once upon a time, there was a knight here within Snowhold who was a fearsome warrior. Slaughtered enemies by the hundreds of thousands, and, seeking to be the most powerful knight in all of this realm, he took his death and sealed it away inside of a needle. And he put that needle in a egg, and that egg he put in a duck, and the duck he put in a hare, and a hare he put in the chest, and then the chest went to an island, and it was a schlep to find it." ― Arzt, one of Snow White's undead dwarf soldiers
To better serve his Tsar (as well as in Russian mythology where he is also named Korschei the Immortal), Koschei removes his soul from his body. Koschei maintains his life and immortality through the removal of his soul. However, if his soul is found, it can be destroyed, killing Korschei.
History[]
The Tsar of Snowhold plans to use Korschei the Deathless against Snow White's army knowing that, by being immortal, The Deathless alone would be able to defeat her. By the time Destiny's Children hear about Koschei, Mürrisch, Schläfrig, and Arzt, have found the "turducken" containing his soul which Snow White plans to release in the ensuing battle in Snowhold against him, which would theoretically let able Koschei be killed.
