Description[]
La Bête is a hulking monstrosity, a huge, muscular and fur covered beast. She has intense slitted eyes, and speaks with a deep French accent.
Background[]
Bête once met a great beast who made her an offer that her father, who was imprisoned by him, could go free. In exchange, she would be subjected to servitude and captivity in his place. She agreed. In time, the beast fell in love with her, learning softness and empathy. The beast came to her one night with the proposition/invitation for Bête to change her status from captivity to voluntary confinement, and all would be forgiven because change had come, and love was in the air. In that moment, Bête made her first offer to the beast: Kneel down on the floor, and let her devour him, or she would just do it anyway. In order to be able to transform into the beast, Bête has to eat every scrap of the beast's flesh, and every drop of his blood, including his marrow. (This took a really long time.)
History[]
Daughters of the Crown[]
When Destiny's Children arrive at Snowhold, Bête and Ylfa acknowledge the beast-like natures of each other.
Leap of Faith[]
When Ylfa is looking in the Snowhold's library for stories of death, Bête finds finds here there. After Ylfa asks how the princess became a beast and how to handle it herself, Bête reveals her origin. She also explains there is a serenity and peace to becoming a beast. Furthermore, there are no answers that are needed beyond knowing how to answer to fear. After some more conversation, Ylfa tells la Bête that she looks up to the princess because Bête shows her that, despite the adults telling the girl she should be a certain way, knowing there's someone else like her is reassuring. To this, la Bête replies, "Everyone you ever knew who told you that they would keep you safe as long as you behaved were already hurting you." She then tells Ylfa that the beastly nature within the two of them is, in fact, honesty that they aren't hiding behind masks and regal finery. Later on when the group is fleeing the castle, le Bête sees their tracks in the snow, but doesn't bother to chase them. In fact, none of the Princesses seem bothered that they are leaving.
The Trials of Baba Yaga[]
When Destiny's Children arrive with Baba Yaga in the Lines Between, they find that La Bête, along with the rest of the seven Princesses, have already arrived, Snow White's hand in the inkwell of the Canonade.
The Ending of All Things (Part 1)[]
After fighting particularly Ylfa in the battle in the Canonade, the young werewolf is ultimately able to hold the Beast on the edge of a platform dropping into the chaotic pages swirling within the room. Ylfa then tries to persuade Bête to join their side. However, the Beast is unconvinced, saying, "Save your pity. Do what you feel you must," to which Ylfa replies, "Alright, well, Death is hungry," drops her into oblivion. However, some of Bête's fur remains stuck in Ylfa's claws, which she later is able to put in Timothy's book, allowing her a happily ever after.
