Leviathan Rock City is the fifth episode of Dimension 20 LIVE, or Fantasy High: Sophomore Year.

Recap[]

"Last we left off our heroes, there had been some shenanigans with strange nightmare forces they got some hirelings including two of Fig Faeth's parents. And the third is trapped in a gem with her right now. And they had set out to Bastion City it was a fight with some demons at the Hotel Cavalier. They made an extradimensional space in a celestial van, headed off on the ocean, and have arrived at the pirate city of Leviathan. A massive city made of a titanic amalgamation of shipwrecks lashed and built upon together, as a floating metropolis on the waves."

Synopsis[]

The Bad Kids have arrived in Leviathan. A net surges out of the water and captures the van, slinging it upwards into the maw of Leviathan. Assorted pirates begin to pull the net onto a large platform. Fabian Seacaster assures everyone this is normal. Gorgug Thistlespring, Kristen Applebees and Fabian huddle up and Fabian tells them that his father’s name will go a long way here, and to allow him to do most of the talking.

The pirates have mistaken the van for scrap technology. Fabian insults them and causes one pirate to cry. The van has been lowered onto an intake platform, holding all the loot needed for the city to function and a Warforged pirate approaches as they take this in. Fig Faeth begins to open the van door and ask for a light but is stopped by Kristen. Fabian greets the pirates, and they are allowed to exit onto the deck.

Gorgug tells the Hangvan to remain quiet, who agrees (loudly).

Fabian introduces himself and so does the Warforged, stating her name is Jamina Joy and that she is the Boson of Leviathan. Fabian reveals he was the one to slay his father in confirmation of rumours regarding Bill Seacaster’s death. In support of this claim, he points out his eyepatch and sword, both of which belonged to his late father. One pirate is convinced by the exclamations of ‘Ahoy!’ that the Bad Kids are indeed pirates.

The pirates are intimidated at the sight of Cathilda Ceíli. Jamina kneels for ‘Cathilda the Black, terror of the Celestine Sea’, though Fabian is confused by this, unsure who Jamina is kneeling for. Cathilda bids her to get up, stating there is no need to kneel. Jamina explains she is kneeling out of respect and a desire to stay alive, and once again Fabian is puzzled by this. Cathilda explains they’re scared of her, not him. She posits it's best not to call more attention than is necessary to her in Leviathan. Fig offers to disguise Cathilda, which is agreed upon, and they dye her hair ombre. Adaine Abernant states if necessary she will cast Greater Invisibility upon Cathilda.

Gorgug explains the Hangvan’s dual function. Jamina states that it has been seized as raw materials. Fig attempts to leverage her fame and fails as Jamina has never listened to music, and thinks Fig means she is literally made of rock.

Adaine casts Snare on the back doors of the van to prevent break-ins as pirates gather for Fig and Gorgug’s performance. In the meantime, Riz Gukgak scans the crowd for anyone who seems to recognise Fabian (in search of Garthy O'Brien) and spots a red Tiefling teenager who looks out of place. His eyes light up in awe when Fabian announces himself.

Fig and Gorgug begin playing music and Jamina and her crew begin to dance, grind and go mad. Jamina unplugs the amp. Fig suggests using Jamina as an amp, who refuses. Jamina asks where Fabian’s vessel is, and he calls the Hangman. He explains the Hangman is both a steed and a vessel as he is primarily a pirate of the land.

Jamina states they can buy back the Hangvan. The party begins to negotiate amongst themselves about the price inside. Upon their exit, they see that the red Tiefling is speaking with Jamina.

Fabian insists he is an only child upon the suggestion that the Tiefling may be his sibling. The others doubt this fact.

Jamina is handed a bag by the Tiefling and then turns to Fabian, saying goodbye to him before leaving. The Tiefling states they settled the debt to Jamina, though with rocks made to look like money, an effect which will disappear in the next ten minutes or so. He introduces himself as Alistair Ash. Riz asks if he knows Garthy, and Alistair states that everyone does, being that he is the impresario of the Gold Gardens. He is very impressed with the van and Solesian technology.

Alistair agrees to lead them to Garthy, and also explains he is often forgetful that the people he lies to do, in fact, have feelings and thoughts and continue to exist after the lie has been told. After a brief deliberation, the Bad Kids decide to Mage Hand Jamina a hundred gold to replace the fake pieces as they drive away.

Fig and Alistair discuss his demonic heritage. Adaine realises Alistair has a crush or some form of admiration with regard to Fabian. He also reveals he is a warlock of Bill Seacaster, stating there are many more of his type. Around five months before the adventure began, Bill apparently killed a devil prince and consumed his infernal essence, which allowed him to begin granting powers. However, pirates are superstitious and if word got out that they were warlocks, they face execution. Kristen asks about the Nightmare King, but Alistair knows nothing.

Adaine pays Alistair a fake coin to show them a spell. He disguises himself as a caricature of a human pirate woman. Alistair describes the warlock pact, which is functionally a pyramid scheme, essentially paying for spells and gaining spell slots through referrals. Gorgug pulls the van over so that Alistair can perform a ritual to pay for his spells. Alistair states the other warlock would follow Fabian, essentially forming an army.

The party decide to park the van and leave Gilear Faeth, Sandra Lynn Faeth, and Cathilda with it. They begin to walk. Alistair states that the Sternwood is full of beasts, having been spawned by Sea Druids and subsequently cursed.

As they make their way through Cannon Court, Riz is grabbed by a pirate who threatens him. In response, Fig transforms into the pirate and Kristen begins to convince him he’s already dead. Fig tells him to ‘let this life go’, and he runs out of a porthole and commits suicide. Kristen attempts to revive him but the rest of the party stops her, reasoning this man was racist and bad.

Adaine pulls a tricorn hat out of her jacket to wear and Kristen casts Light on her shirt.

The party enters the Gardens, and Alistair points out Garthy O'Brien, who notices them immediately and is concentrating on a spell. Garthy calls them over to the table. Adaine bows with her hat. Alistair is called over by Garthy by name and is delighted by this. Garthy welcomes the party into the Gold Gardens. Fig undisguises herself and introduces herself. Garthy recognises Fabian. The group bicker for a moment before Kristen interrupts by grabbing a nearby mead and beginning to drink it. This attracts the attention of a nearby Mindflayer, whose mead it was. Recognising the situation, Adaine offers him a bottle of mead from her jacket instead. Kristen attempts to talk her way out of the situation, but as the Mindflayer caresses Kristen’s face, Tracker swats it away, causing thirty pirates in the bar to draw swords. Garthy calms the situation by threatening to draw as well. The Illithid states he does not want to drink in the same bar as the son of a coward, referring to Fabian, and states that Bill Seacaster died on land, therefore giving Fabian no right to tell them how to live. Fabian recognises the Mindflayer as Captain James Whitclaw, of the Crimson Claw. Captain Whitclaw states he is in Leviathan to establish a new order. Fabian insults him before attempting to kick him in the chest, with Gorgug’s support. Captain Whitclaw catches Fabian’s foot and pulls him close, attempting to intimidate him. This is interrupted by Garthy, who tells Whitclaw and his crew to leave. Kristen flicks him a copper ‘for the beer’, and Tracker yells that he shouldn’t touch women without consent.

Garthy gives their condolences to Fabian. Riz explains they’re in Leviathan to speak with them. Upon a request for more privacy, the party move to a hookah room where Garthy reveals they know about the warlocks. They also reveal they believe Whitclaw wants to become a pirate king, a concept which Bill Seacaster did away with. Fig asks about the Hotel Cavalier; Garthy reveals they were supplying Bill with palimpsests and similar crystals. They also say that the last time they visited Bastion City, they were informed that Bill was not coming, and upon attempting to leave were attacked by demons who stole a velvet pouch full of gems. Adaine thinks Garthy is simply concentrating on Detecting Evil and Good.

Fig shows the ruby containing Gorthalax to Garthy, who speculates the demons likely set up in Hotel Cavalier due to their continued presence. Garthy explains that the demons seemed excited about the particular ruby inside the van but were disappointed to find a celestial already trapped inside, making it functionally useless, as well as the fact that the demons in the hotel were summoned and bound to this plane for centuries. In response to a passing remark that the Nightmare King was capable of that, Garthy reveals the crown passed through the Gold Gardens not long ago in the hands of Arianwen Abernant.

According to Garthy, she was looking for a curse to be broken on herself which was applied through handling the crown, which they did. Afterwards, she applied some sort of aura, and Garthy asked her to leave with the artefact. Garthy says she appeared to be frustrated at being unable to teleport to wherever she was going, owing to having never been there herself or having a description. Garthy is unable to break the curse on the ruby, as Kristen was in the previous episode, and shares that Gorthalax is likely in a great deal of pain within.

Gorgug asks about Garthy’s tattoos, who shares that they mean something in Celestial, as they are descended from the Zajiri, a kind of ‘risen devil’, or holy succubi. Garthy reveals the Hangvan to actually be a celestial called Zaphriel, of hanging out and having chill times. Garthy further explains that the Nightmare King defies categorisation, being an abomination, but has in the past allied with demons, as well as possibly the Shadow Cat.

Garthy says that the demons were likely planning some sort of ritual involving a sacrifice, which Riz recognises as being what happened to him. They also tell the party that Arianwen headed to Hull Cliff, to a ship bound for Fallinel.

Fig asks Garthy the flavour of the hookah they are smoking, and discovers it is peach-mint-cucumber. Kristen asks Alistair about the picture, but he only sees Pok. Fabian and Fig briefly Message about paying Alistair for his silence, but ultimately do not come to a decision.

Gorgug asks Garthy if it would be cool if he got a tattoo, who tells him it would be a nice way to honour his Orcish heritage. Fig asks if she can get ‘pain’ on her inner wrist as a reminder of what is happening to Gorthalax, and Garthy tells them that a free tattoo comes with a room should they choose to stay here.

The Hangvan then begins to communicate telepathically with Gorgug, and tells him they have been discovered by bandits. Gilear is either dead or unconcious. It asks whether it should head to where they are, which Gorgug agrees to. Gilear then comes on and says that Cathilda has revived him with a potion.

Fabian pays for the party's stay. Fig, Adaine, Riz and Tracker fly to the van. Gilear is in the driver’s seat, Cathilda is leaning out of the window throwing daggers, and Sandra Lynn is assisting from above. Riz jumps into the driver’s seat and pushes Gilear out of the way to take over. Fig Shatters a small group of pirates, killing two of them. Adaine casts Lighting Bolt, killing another three pirates. The pirates take shots at Fig and Adaine, missing both, Adaine putting up a Shield. Sandra Lynn is hit in the ribcage with a bullet and falls from Baxter. Cathilda kills another two pirates. Riz runs over the remaining three with the Hangvan, killing them. Tracker catches Sandra Lynn before doing a healing spell which consists of tearing open her own and Sandra Lynn’s wrists before putting them together, giving her blood to Sandra Lynn to fully heal her.

They return to the Gold Gardens and decide to go to a calmer restaurant to eat. Sandra Lynn decides she’s going to get extremely drunk. Kristen and Tracker play around. Fabian and Ragh try to convince Riz to do snuff, who agrees. Gilear accidentally eats hookah coal as it fell into his stew, which terribly burns his mouth, and Kristen casts Warding Bond on him. Gilear is punched in the face in the bathroom. He decides to go stay in the suite.

Adaine drinks pomegranate juice and Fig does some dragon spice. Gorgug asks about cell towers and is told there is one in Aftward, near Poop City, but the bartender thinks he is asking about the brig, where there is a literal tower of cells.

Kristen, Tracker and Fabian concede that Aelwyn Abernant is attractive. Some members of the party get get tattoos, Gorgug with a tin flower on his shoulder and some Zajiri orcish celestial runes, Kristen with ‘Tracker’ on her neck, Tracker with ‘Kristen’ on her, Fig with ‘Pain’ and ‘Pleasure’ on each wrist in Zajiri.

Gorgug gets extremely drunk, and Riz’ body is so small it doesn’t properly process the snuff, meaning he gets extremely high, along with Fig. As a result of this, he goes and gets tattoos of every clue they have come across so far, being hyped up by Fabian. Gorgug is convinced to drink water by Ragh and Fabian. Tracker and Sandra Lynn are also extremely drunk. Sandra Lynn decides to teach Fig how to flirt, and ends up leabing the bar with Garthy. Fig and Adaine decide to go check on Sandra Lynn, and Fabian slips away from the group. Everyone else goes to the suite.

Fabian decides to climb up to the Crow’s Keep, and looks over at the whole city, before speaking into the wind in hopes of reaching his father.

Fig and Adaine go looking for Sandra Lynn and find a huge set of golden doors. Fig tells the guards outside she forgot her watch inside, but then changes her mind immediately and tells them her mother is inside and she wants to see her. Sandra Lynn comes to the door after a moment, clearly dishevelled, but confirms she is okay. Fig and Adaine run away.

Back in the suite, Gilear is up making some food for himself (boiling yoghurt). He asks Fig and Adaine if anything is wrong, and both attempt to convince him they’re just high, Adaine unsuccessfully. After casting Friends, she manages to convince him she is fine.

Tracker stirs in her sleep and asks who Sandra Lynn is kissing but goes back to sleep. Everyone realises Sandra Lynn is likely cheating on Jawbone. Kristen and Riz go to look at the door themselves, and notice a Clairvoyance spell.

Fabian, still on the Crow’s Keep, hears footsteps behind him. Figures in dark cloaks, who turn out to be the warlocks of Bill, approach him. They begin celebrating Fabian.
