Description[]

Personality[]

Hob is a stereotypical uptight military officer, who is constantly at-attention. This makes it difficult for him to fit in with his chaotic goblin court, who emphasise doing what you want without apology. He is able to tap into a more chaotic side however, and will do anything to defend the honour of his court. According to himself and Scorple, he is "shit for lying." He is scared that he doesn't know how to do almost anything if he is not being ordered.

Appearance[]

K.P. strikes an imposing figure, as he is very tall; while the average goblin is 2 or 3 feet tall, he towers over them at 7 feet tall. He has a fairly classic goblin countenance, but with a more canine/ursine nose pressed into a flat, humanoid face, with a wide, toothy mouth. K.P. has thick eyebrows and incredibly expressive long, furry, tufted ears, which move in accordance with his emotions like a dog. His legs are digitigrade like a cougar, and he has a deer tail which is white on the underside which he uses to signal his fellow soldiers. His arms are incredibly long, reaching from his shoulders all the way to his ankles while standing.

Outfits[]

Standard[]

K. P. wears fairly standard black military garb with gold epaulets and gold brocade, as well as a blood red sash decorated with medals and emblems. He carries a cavalry officer's hat and a tall halberd. K. P. keeps himself very well kempt and polished, but wears no trousers,

Sparring[]

When he spars with Andhera, he wears no coat but is now wearing pants. He never goes full nakey.

Masquerade[]

For the Masquerade, Hob dresses in the colours of the theme, because he assumed it was mandatory, and when he was informed that it wasn't mandatory, he decided it would be an advantage because he would blend in with the architecture. He wears a beautiful, cream military coat with gold brocade and a deep gold sash that runs across his torso. He has rearranged all his medals on the sash, partly because it is a different uniform but partly to disguise the missing medal he gave to Rue. The sash has many ruffles to hide the potions he is carrying on him. He carries a beautiful ceremonial halberd edged with fairy steel and inlaid with platinum and ivory as well as hints of gold. He carries a tall cavalry officer's hat which is cream white with a golden bill and a golden chin plate. He also wears a tiny golden chained monocle, which is purely decorative, and white gloves that are fitted, but allow his claws to burst out of the end.

Post-Finale[]

In the Finale, Hob removes his military uniform to symbolise his detachment to the Goblin Court, so he is now full nakey. Post finale, he does wear a brown piece of string tied in a bow around his finger like a ring, tying him to the Pack of Pixies and his open-invitation to the Court of Craft.

Background[]

Hob is a "low-born" military man who has previously fought in battles that made him considered a war hero to many people across the Fae realms. It is widely known that he fought Andhera in battle and knocked Andhera prone before letting them live for unknown reasons, although since Andhera was a child at the time, this probably goes some way to explaining Hob's lenience in this matter. He lives in a bog.

History[]

Relationships[]

Prince Andhera[]

Andhera and Captain Hob once faced each other on the battlefield. What exactly transpired is unknown, but rumor has it that Hob managed to knock Andhera off their horse and for some reason spared him. It can be inferred from Andhera's toast that they wielded a double-bladed scimitar during their battle. Due to their past relationship as enemies on the battlefield, their relationship now is awkward as neither of them know how to behave around one another in this new context.

Andhera also became Wuvvy's second in a duel against Hob and lost quickly, but lasted longer than expected by being very slippery.

Andhera gifted Hob some trash and he and Hob engaged in friendly dueling at the beginning of Seaside Teatime. Hob gave Andhera some friendly advice that he didn't have to air his greatest shames, and Andhera shared instead his greatest pride: that he once folded 100 paper bats. They then sparred. Later, before the tea party, Andhera and Hob spoke, with Hob encouraging Andhera to spend time with the Viscountess Grabalba. This is the first time Hob saw himself and Andhera as peers.

Andhera was Hob's second while meeting at the abandoned tailor's shop with BINX, and Hob tells him that he trusts him implicitly. Hob then gave Andhera a potion of Detect Thoughts so that Andhera could stay alert and let him know if there was any danger imminent. Andhera therefore knows that Rue and Hob are enamoured by each other. Andhera also reveals his true voice at this meeting as he wanted people to know that they weren't the only one putting themselves out there by revealing things, although he recognises that this is the smallest revelation of the meeting. When Hob reveals that the K in K.P. stands for Knickolas, Rue very loudly sighs dreamily and exclaims in their brain that they love him, which Andhera hears.

In The Masquerade Ball, Hob asks Andhera if there is any chance they will be the one to marry Grabalba. Andhera stutters a bit and says he could if Hob needed them to, but when Hob pushes for a real answer Andhera says no, so Hob attempts to push Andhera towards BINX to dance, although unsuccessfully. Andhera thinks he has upset him by turning down Grabalba, and Hob sets it straight that he's not mad it's just that "I thought I was doing something. I wasn't doing anything".

When talking with Blemish and Boil, Hob tells them that although Suntar is conspiring with Apollo, Hob is sparring partners with Andhera, and if they were to elevate his position, they could hold power in the Unseelie Court. He calls Andhera "the boy" and then corrects to "the man". Hob later tries to convince Binx to pursue her crush on him.

In Theater of War, Andhera casts Dispel Magic on the arrows that Apollo shot Hob with, and also cast Cure Wounds, although Hob wouldn't let them remove the arrows for fear of tampering with the evidence. He apologised to Andhera before making a generalised comment about Princes in light of the attack from Apollo, and Andhera just nodded agreeingly.

When Squak performs surgery on Hob, Andhera tries to help by bringing Squak a bowl of sterilized (not disinfected) water. Andhera offers all of the Pack of Pixies a position in his court.

After Hob and Rue have a difficult conversation heading to the theater, Hob becomes upset and Andhera misinterprets it as Hob still being injured, and tries to cast Lay on Hands on him. Hob says "just hold me, just fucking hold me, just fucking hold me".

During Suntar and Andhera's fight, Chirp and Squak consider stopping Suntar from casting a spell on him, but Hob convinces them it will be cooler if he fights it himself.

Prince Apollo[]

Hob specifically dislikes Apollo for breaking off the engagement between himself and Viscountess Grabalba.Hob and Binx have banded together to take down Prince Apollo (and possibly the Court of Wonder) for their misdeeds against both the Court of Craft and the Goblin Court. In The Rule of Sneakery, the two of them made plans for a "sneaky sneak murder" which they would blame on Suntar. Later, Apollo approaches Hob on his way to meet with the Lady Sylmenar and attacks him in an unofficial and unpublic duel, with an intent to murder Hob. Due to the unofficial nature of the "duel", Hob did not feel like he needed to engage, and instantly sprinted away, although Apollo continued to shoot him with arrows, including some which detonated and some that were magically enhanced with millipede-like feet to crawl in the direction of his organs. He used Command on Hob to convince him to fight, but Hob fought past the spell. Apollo continued to berate him, but Hob continued to run. Apollo revealed he knew Hob had been looking into the Court of Wonder, and told him to stay and ask whatever he wanted. Hob continued to run. After chancing upon his friends, he insisted on keeping the arrows in his body to make him "a walking crime scene" to bring evidence against Apollo, but eventually allowed Squak to remove them after one of the lung-seeking missiles pierced his lung. He revealed that he didn't fight back because he knew it would reflect badly on him to be found attacking someone of higher status.

At the Portal, Hob came across Squak and Apollo hooking up. Squak gave token protestations while winking, before Hob stabbed Apollo in the stomach, killing him instantly. (Mechanically, this occurring by Mulligan rolling advantage and getting two nat 20s.)

BINX Choppley[]

BINX and Hob were seen promenading around the bloom together, and rumour was quickly spread about their relationship. The two seemed to be kindly to eachother, and had a fairly deep conversation, but Hob was scared off by Rue when attempting to probe for information about them. Hob's superiors, Boil and Blemish, were clearly upset by the visible interaction between them, but somewhat enjoyed the rumours as it suggested that they planned more than their reputations previously suggested.

Hob is aware that BINX is not who they seem, having heard BINX's voice change while deep in the forest, and has told Boil and Blemish as much. He uses one of the potions at the tea party to read BINX's mind and discover that Gwyndolin is not her real name, although he couldn't find out what was, and became suspicious of her as potentially being a threat to the Goblin nobility.

In Of One Mind, BINX sent a message to Hob asking to meet with him at the abandoned Tailor's in hopes of an allyship to help her find information about the Court of Wonder, and she called him cool, which cause his eyes to well up with tears. Despite this, Hob remained worried he might be murdered or framed for a crime if he went, so he requested that they both bring seconds from other courts; Hob brought Andhera, while BINX brought Rue. She told Rue beforehand that she thinks she and Hob might be twin flames (in a platonic, kindred spirit kind of way). She also told Rue she had noticed the relationship between them and Hob. Hob tells Binx about his negative feelings towards the Court of Wonder, and so she reveals her true self to him, then the two of them agree to take down Prince Apollo (and possibly by extension, the Court of Wonder). He tells BINX that it is an honour to find a "like mind".

In The Rule of Sneakery, Hob and BINX had a clandestine meeting in the abandoned Tailor’s. BINX surprised him by creating 3D maps and figures representing the major players in their plans and Hob complimented their craftsmanship, saying both on the map and Prince Andhera’s attire for the Masquerade, saying they're the only other Fey he knows who works. BINX reacts defensively, defending her friendship with Andhera, which hadn't even been mentioned, and Hob replies, "Hey listen, I should know about falling in love at the Bloom last night!" The two of them stammer at eachother for a bit before BINX and Hob admit their respective love for Andhera and Rue, and both cry.

Hob reminds BINX that she is the leader of the court of craft (at which BINX becomes nauseous), and the two of them decide they have to fight for their place at the Bloom, and then they discuss what they know about Apollo and Suntar's plan. BINX proposes that they murder Apollo and frame Suntar, which Hob happily agrees to, and suggests they get Andhera in on it, after which immediately BINX starts talking about whether Andhera likes them or not. Hob tries to comforts her, referring to her as Ms. Choppley, after which they tell him to call her BINX. He tells her that given Andhera and her stations, it is nowhere near as unlikely for them as it is for him and Rue and impresses that "In love and war you must not miss your moment to strike". BINX suggests that if Rue joined the Court of Craft, Hob could marry Rue instead and have that be his political alliance. She tells him that she'll do whatever would make him happy, and he replies that he treasures her friendship (but will deny it in front of his superiors if asked). BINX responds that they'll help him deny it.

After Hob gets attacked by Apollo, BINX is one of the group he runs into. BINX tells him that he is part of their family. In Theater of War, when Andhera offers all of the Pack of Pixies a position in his court, BINX says she would love to accept, but cannot as if she left her court it would die with her, and offers her own invitation to them all to join the Court of Craft.

Blemish and Boil[]

Lord Blemish and Lady Boil are two members of the goblin nobility who act as Hob's bosses. They became upset with him when he was seen promenading with Gwyn, but later forgave him. They gave him permission to try and set up Viscountess Gribalba with Andhera, and lady Boil told him to stop trying to socialise with people and just be a weapon because people were cruel to him.

In The Rule of Sneakery, Blemish and Boil wrote him a letter telling him that he was being promoted to Major, but that he would have to marry Lady Sylmenar for a political alliance with the Seelie Court. They tell him he must make effort to publically court her beforehand. He has never wanted to eat a letter less.

The three meet to converse about plans for the Bloom thus far, and Hob asks if he still needs to help Grabalba secure a match. Boil and Blemish respond that Grabalba says it's in hand. Hob celebrates, and then describes something Rue told him as being told by "someone near to me". When Boil and Blemish called this out, he lied and said that he meant physically. He then talks about how he hasn't yet found evidence of an assassin in the Court of Wonder, asking if he still needed to look for it. The two then guilted him about this and he promised to continue.

He tells them that the Lords of the Wing had spoken the rumour about their court mistakenly after being told it by Apollo. Blemish tells him they still demand satisfaction, and ask Hob to bring them Apollo's head. Hob then tells them that although Suntar is conspiring with Apollo, Hob is sparring partners with Andhera, and if they were to elevate his position, they could hold power in the Unseelie Court.

The three of them talk about the union with Lady Sylmenar, and Hob said it doesn't matter if he's amenable or not, since it's his job, and Blemish and Boil tell him as long as he does what they say, it doesn't matter what other "activities" he gets up to. Hob agrees, but asks to proactively decline any future medals of Bravery or Courage. They ask why, and Hob calls on the Rule of Sneakery.

Lady Chirp Featherfowl[]

Hob invited Squak to play croquet with him, and Squak invited him to tea with himself and Chirp, neither of which came to pass.

At the end of the Hedge Maze Squak purposefully spread a rumour about Graballba, because of which Hob came to visit the cousins in the beginning of Of One Mond to ask them to either correct it or to let him know if they didn't create the rumour. they chose the latter., but didn't name a specific person, allowing him to believe it was Apollo.

Later, after being attacked by Apollo, Hob encountered the rest of the Pack of Pixies while fleeing, Squak was originally frightened by his animalistic running, and then the two cousins tried to move the attention from them and their issues onto Hob, Hob offered to carry their luggage for them, and strained himself greatly doing so. Chirp, Squak and Hob laughed together about the sexual connotations of "orienting his organs" away from the arrow. Chirp warned him that bringing evidence against Apollo probably wouldn't bring any consequences against him. Chirp offers to remove the arrows for him, but given Squak's higher medicine proficiency, Squak took over, but Chirp used her Arcane Ibis to help him by describing what was happening and directing him. Hob let slip that he knew about the movie, and Squak and Chirp almost killed him.

Chirp gives everyone a "bluebird tooth" - a bluebird that sits in their ear - so they can keep in contact at the theater.

During Suntar and Andhera's fight, Chirp and Squak consider stopping Suntar from casting a spell on him, but Hob convinces them it will be cooler if he fights it himself.

Suntar backs out, but tells Andhera she will one day see them again, before trying to open a Dimension Door, which is counter-spelled by Chirp, throwing her off balance, and Hob kicks her through the portal to the mortal realm.

Delloso de la Rue[]

Hob and Rue worked together during the Great Hart Hunt, during which Hob upset Rue by telling them that they were ruining his trap by being too obvious. Hob was surprised that Rue cared what he thought, as he had never experienced that before, and Rue told Hob that parts of his personality which the Goblin Court didn't appreciate were still wonderful traits which Rue appreciates.

Rue realised in Duel on the Southern Lawn that they had developed feelings for Hob, which they expressed in a letter which they wrote out loud while in earshot of Wuvvy. Wuvvy expressed excited surprise, but on realising how surprising it was, Rue became self conscious and felt that their feelings and expression of them were unbecoming, so they magically ordered Wuvvy to burn the letter. Wuvvy remembered the letter and went to go recite it to Hob, but stumbled across Hob writing a letter out loud to Wrackingspelt, the contents of which appeared to be romantic. Wuvvy challenged Hob to a duel for hurting Rue's feelings, and since she refused to tell him what he had supposedly done wrong to fix his error, he accepted. Wuvvy later let Andhera fight the duel in her place. After the duel, Hob insinuated that the duel was to do with the broken engagement between Grabalba and Apollo, which had been called off due to Rue's supposed feelings for Grabalba.

Hob, being confused as to why the duel took place, believes that it was because he is so far beneath Rue and so bad at socialising that they were offended at his attempts. He later sees them remove their glamour and is surprised, but impressed by their courage and marvels at the splendor of their true form, and compliments them on their entrance. Due to Rue's transformation, Hob's perception of the duel changes, but remains incorrect. He now believes that Rue has so much on their mind they don't even think about Hob. He is more smitten now, but thinks that he has no chance so he feels some closure.

Rue tells BINX that they Hob just makes them happy, and they barely know Hob but feel like they understand him well. BINX encourages them to go for it. When Hob sees Rue, he visibly has to take a deep breath, but Rue doesn't notice and Andhera reads surface thoughts of being completely enamoured, but self deprecating about it. When Hob and BINX badmouth the Court of Wonder, Rue knocks over a ventriloquist's dummy in shock but doesn't say anything about it, appreciating his and BINX's feelings about it but feeling protective of their Court. When Hob reveals that the K in K. P. stands for Knickolas, Rue very loudly sighs dreamily and exclaims in their brain that they love him, which Andhera hears. Rue feels very anxious and their heart starts beating fast when he shakes the hand of frog!binx because his hand almost touches their bosom. When Andhera and BINX leave, Rue tells Hob that he was used by his court and he should be less impulsive and look after himself more. He gives Rue one of his medals, a medal of courage, and leaves tearfully.

Later at the Masquerade, when Chirp encourages Rue to go after what they want, and Rue looks to Hob. When the fireworks go off, Hob becomes startled and runs to protect Rue by throwing his arms around them. The two of them talk. Hob tries to ask to put his name on their Dance Card, but then assumes that it is full. Rue in fact says it is empty, and Hob says that he is surrounded by fools, and asks permission to write his name down. They say yes, and write their own name on his, telling him that they are also fools for missing out on the opportunity to dance with him. Hob looks at them in the eye, and eats the dance card. After many dances at the masquerade (mainly because of Hob eating his dace card) Hob whispered into Rue's ear and revealed that the P in K. P. Hob stands for Pnackleless.

The next day, Rue sent a letter to Hob professing their feelings for him, and asking for his thoughts on the matter, but it was never delivered as Wuvvy ripped it up.

After their confrontation with the Chorus, all Rue wanted to do was to be consoled by Hob, but they "thought better of it." Later, Hob goes to Wrackingspelt and confides that he has fallen in love. He then rides Wrackingspelt to the abandoned Tailor's, where he meets BINX. In response to BINX's awkwardness surrounding the subject of Andhera, Hob replies "hey listen, i should know about falling in love at the bloom last night!". The two of them stammer at eachother for a bit before BINX and Hob admit their respective love for Andhera and Rue, and both cry. Hob tries to comforts her when she becomes anxious about Andhera, referring to her as Ms. Choppley, after which they tell him to call her BINX. He tells her that given Andhera and her stations, it is nowhere near as unlikely for them as it is for him and Rue and impresses that "In love and war you must not miss your moment to strike". He calls Rue "the most singularly courageous, ethereally beautiful, constant, kind and true fey I have ever met," and says that, "There may be no single fairy for whom there is more credit for joy and wonder than Delloso de la Rue." He calls the night of the ball "an act of graciousness" and states that he doesn't want to squander the memory by asking for more, and doesn't want to bother them when they are already so busy. BINX suggests that if Rue joined the Court of Craft, Hob could marry Rue instead and have that be his political alliance.

Rue was one of the group who Hob chanced upon after being attacked by Apollo, and Rue became very protective and angry when Hob tried to talk around the subject and screamed at Squak when he got distracted from performing surgery.

The two share an intense conversation before the theatre, with Hob only understanding following orders and Rue only understanding being more impulsive in their own interests. Hob doesn't know how he would cope if he wasn't recieving orders. Rue tells him they think they might be very different people. Hob expresses his opinion that he thinks Rue spent the Masquerade with him out of obligation or kindness, and that he spends his life in the pursuit of the happiness of others. Rue tells him they hope he finds happiness in that, and walks away.

During the play, BINX and Rue accidentally run into each other at the water's edge. BINX tries to tell Rue Hob likes them, while Rue says he has no attraction to them, and thinks that BINX is lying to be nice. Rue asks, upset, if Hob loves them more than his duties. Andhera appears and says yes.

Hob finds out from the Seafoam Court that Rue was the one who broke off the engagement between Apollo and Grabalba (since they knew it was for power, not love), and goes to confront them about it. Rue becomes upset and tries to excuse themself from the conservation, and Hob accuses them of manipulating him by making him fall in love with them so he couldn't continue to search for the perpetrator, although he used subtler words than these. Rue becomes angry and tells him, "I thought you were different," and bemoans the fact that he always thinks of the court before himself. Rue says everything they did was for love, and Hob interprets that as love of their court, and reiterates his belief that Rue only danced with him as an act of service, before Rue tells him they love him, and they are upset they never got a response to their letter, that they danced with him because they cared for him, and that they only pulled away in the forest so he wouldn't feel through their glamour.

Hob reacted confused, having never received a letter, before receiving a message from Squak telling them to get there faster. Hob appealed to Rue, telling them if they were really in this, they should join him now. They do.

During the denouement, Hob bursts into the library where Andhera is, asking for what they found out at the tailor shop when they were reading minds. Andhera responds that he didn't dig very deep out of respect for Rue and BINX, but he picked up a lot of "vibes". Hob then shakes Andhera aggressively and yells, "Be more specific!" Andhera exasperatedly tells him to just tell Rue how he feels, and Hob hugs him.

Hob goes to Rue, and tells them again that they never received a letter from them, but he doesn't want to hear their answer before he confesses, as he wants to be brave and honourable for the first time as his life - defining honour and bravery as, "...the pursuit of what is right when circumstances are against you [...] the doing of what is good and noble when the world conspires to prevent you from it," he doesn't believe he's ever been either before in his life. He starts by asking, "For your hand, and for a kiss." Rue responds, "Honourably, I accept," and they kiss for a long time. Hob tells Rue they are beautiful, brave. He removes his military uniform, and says, "There is one injury of yours that must be amended. You said that you felt alone. Never here. Not while I draw breath," renouncing the Goblin Court. They kiss again.

The Goblin Court[]

Hob sometimes has disciplinary issues with the goblins, as they have been taught to do what they want, but sometimes he is able to scare them into submission, such as when he used them to identify the potions from the tea party. Much like Rue's experience with the Court of Wonder, Hob feels loyalty to the Goblin Court and intensely disconnected to it. He would often do his marching as far from the Goblin Rumpus as possible. He feels like he knows what it means to have "the only root you have not feed you".

The Goblin King[]

The Goblin King is the ruler of the Goblin Court. He gave Hob his blessing and told him to protect the Viscountess Grabalba, Lord Blemish, and Lady Boil at the Bloom.

Captain Gorebladder[]

The Gorebladder lineage has worked for Hob for generations. In Theater of War, he promotes the newest Gorebladder to Captain, and insists that Chirp give him one of the Bluebird Tooths.

Viscountess Grabalba[]

Hob was assigned to protect Grabalba and the secret about her failed engagement to Prince Apollo of the Court of Wonder. He shows great deference to her. In A Bloom to Remember, Grabalba is seen morosely picking petals off of a flower which represents Prince Apollo, and Hob and Grabalba acknowledge each other. Later, Grabalba feels attraction to Hob after seeing him successfully command the other goblins through fear, and she happily sits on his shoulder and flirts with him. Hob also throws Grabalba towards the Crystal Heart in an attempt to allow her to grab it, which doesn't come to pass.

Scorple[]

Scorple was a salt goblin who Hob used to track down BINX to tell her that she needed to bring a second to their conversation at an abandoned tailor's shop. Hob sent Scorple to track down Binx with the help of the Court of Trickery in order to tell her that she needed to bring a second to their conversation at the tailor's shop.

When Hob shows up, Scorple tells him, "You look dope," but then tells everyone that Hob is shit at lying. He also finds it funny when Hob tries to backtrack after badmouthing the Court of Wonder in front of Rue, but also backs him up when he's getting angry about Prince Apollo. Scorple later laughed when Hob was shocked at BINX's reveal, as he already knew who BINX was, after which Hob ate Scorple.

Lord Squak Airavis[]

Hob invited Squak to play croquet with him, and Squak invited him to tea with himself and Chirp, neither of which came to pass. Squak is influenced by his Grandfather to hold disdain for people outside their family, and shows signs of classism, including towards K. P. Hob for being "lowborn."

At the end of the Hedge Maze Squak purposefully spread a rumour about Graballba, because of which Hob came to visit the cousins in the beginning of Of One Mind to ask them to either correct it or to let him know if they didn't create the rumour. They chose the latter, but didn't name a specific person.

Squak asks Hob to describe the sensation of being shot by an arrow "for something i'm working on." Chirp, Squak and Hob laughed together about the sexual connotations of "orienting his organs" away from the arrow. Chirp offers to remove the arrows for him, but given Squak's higher medicine proficiency, Squak took over, attempting to remove the arrows with a Grapefruit spoon. Hob let slip that he knew about the movie, and Squak and Chirp almost killed him. Squak agreed with and repeated BINX's sentiment that the pack of pixies were family. Squak did exceptionally well with the surgery (as Lou rolled a nat 20) and managed to improve his physical health from even before he was shot.

Due to what Apollo did to Hob, Squak promises not to have sex with him, although it hurts him to say that. When Hob showed up to the portal intent on killing Apollo, Squak gave token protestations, but winked at him. Suntar later cast Dominate Person on Hob, telling him to, "Kill them all," causing Hob to attack Squak, but Squak defended himself with Apollo's dead body as a shield. Even while under Dominate Person, Hob continued to compliment Squak, saying, "I remain, as ever, a fan." and "I remain, as ever, committed to your memory. After I have killed you, I will let the people know of your great works!"

After Wuvvy ended Suntar's control over Hob, Hob apologises to Squak, saying "I meant everything I said but my actions were inappropriate". Squak quickly responds that he gets it wasn't Hob attacking him so they're fine, and compliments Hob on his swing. Hob responds that "your form's not bad, as well"

Princess Suntar[]

In the tailor shop, Hob and BINX conspired to murder Apollo and frame Suntar for it.

Hob responds, "Good for you" when Andhera tells the group that his mother said Suntar sucked.

In You Will Never Know a Lonely Day Again, after Hob killed Apollo, she cast Dominate Person on him, ordering him to, "Kill them all," causing him to attack Squak before Wuvvy grapples her, breaking her concentration.

Lady Sylmenar[]

In The Rule of Sneakery, Blemish and Boil wrote Hob a letter telling him that he was being promoted to Major, but that he would have to marry Lady Sylmenar for a political alliance with the Seelie Court. They tell him he must make effort to publicly court her beforehand. He has never wanted to eat a letter less, as he was already in love with Delloso de la Rue - a fact of which Sylmenar is unaware. Hob tells Blemish and Boil it doesn't matter if he's amenable to the union or not, since it's his job. He cried after speaking with Blemish and Boil.

Hob met Lady Sylmenar at the amphitheater and sat with her during the play. When he walked up, she noticeably schooled several emotions before settling on a neutral but pleasant face, and took his arm. Hob greeted her presently and vowed to be of service. He tells her he lives in a bog, and she tells him she lives in a very nice house overlooking a lake. Hob offers that they would stay in her house when they get married and he's not at war. Sylmenar acts well to this. Hob attempts to reassure her, because of his poor self esteem he thinks she must not be happy to see him as her betrothed. Sylmenar responds that this is hard, but it doesn't have to be bad, and promises to be a good companion.

Sylmenar becomes worried about him when he acts suspiciously and tries to leave, and Hob admits he has to leave to do "secret goblin things." Hob offers to get concessions for her, and she smiles and responds, "I have a fondness for sweets." He says, "Then you shall have them tout-sweet!" and she laughs. He then leaves.

Their engagement to be engaged was presumably called off due to Hob asking for Rue's hand and leaving the Goblin Court.

Wannessa[]

Hob frightens Wannessa by being large and scary and crawling over a table to stare intensely at her. He means this in innocent curiosity, but is not very subtle about it. He also implies he has seen and hurt humans before. He licks her face when she starts to cry.

The Court of Wonder[]

Hob recognises that courts are never homogeneous, and that "a fish rots from the head." But he believes a fair amount of the nobility of the Court of Wonder are "arrogant, vain, haughty, small-minded, and of a nature most unbecoming to those of us who wish to uphold true values, like rumpus and mischief!" although he seems to feel bad for speaking this way in front of Rue. He also specifically mentions the Goblin Court having been dishonored by Prince Apollo.

Wrackingspelt[]

Wrackingspelt is Hob's horse who Hob wrote several unsent letters to. Hob claims to miss them very much, and considers them a confidante. He hopes they will one day learn how to read.

In The Rule of Sneakery, Hob goes to the stables after talking to Blemish and Boil to take comfort in Wrackingspelt, and tells them, "Wonderful news. I have fallen in love!," and Wrackingspelt nuzzles his hand. They ride off together to the tailor's shop to go see BINX.

Wuvvy[]

Wuvvy and Hob first speak when Hob puts a bell on Wuvvy in advance of the Great Hart Hunt, distracting her by telling her that some of the goblins had pleasured themselves with the macarons. Wuvvy later meets Hob in the forest alongside Rue, where Hob asks Wuvvy to use their relationship with Theodore to grant Hob an advantage. For this favour, Wuvvy asks Hob for an unspecified favour at a later date.

Rue realised in Duel on the Southern Lawn that they had developed feelings for Hob, which they expressed in a letter which they wrote out loud while in earshot of Wuvvy. Wuvvy expressed excited surprise, but on realising how surprising it was, Rue became self conscious and felt that their feelings and expression of them were unbecoming, so they magically ordered Wuvvy to burn the letter, which was something they had never done before.

Wuvvy later let Andhera fight the duel in her place, and Hob won.

In The Rule of Sneakery, Rue wrote a love letter to Hob and asked Wuvvy to deliver it for them, to which Wuvvy agreed. Unbeknownst to Rue, Wuvvy read and ripped up the letter to prevent it from getting to Hob.

In You Will Never Know a Lonely Day Again, in order to make Rue happy, Wuvvy grappled Suntar and ended the Dominate Person spell on Hob.

During the denouement, Wuvvy appears to have come to accept Rue's love of Hob, and leaves their conversation to allow Hob and Rue to talk, giving Hob a nod as she does.

Ustain Bolt[]

Hob uses Ustain Bolt to send a letter to Binx.

Trivia[]

  • In Adventuring Party 10, Brennan said that he had thought about having Hob be secretly not a big goblin, but three goblins morphed together, as inspired by Little Nemo in Slumberland. Oscar hates that. They were going to be three Arcane Trickster Rogues.
  • In a manner freakish to most goblins, Hob rises with the sun and engages every day in early morning calisthenics.
