Description[]
Manta Ray Jack is a tiny crumble of extremely waxy, stale hard cheese with a huge handlebar mustache. He wears a little bandanna. He has a tattoo of a milky manta ray on his arm and a scar on his stomach where an old flame stabbed him.
Background[]
Jack served in the Ravening War alongside King Amethar and Sir Morris Brie. He met a pirate woman during the war who stabbed him in the stomach when he went back to her after the war had ended. When he was a soldier, her patriotism compelled her to find something rewarding in his character, but after the war she got tired of him. He likes to start each morning with a bourbon, and speaks with a Scottish accent. He is also captain of a ship called the Bel Baby.
History[]
A Crown of Candy[]
Keep Sharp[]
Manta Ray Jack is first introduced as King Amethar of House Rocks steps out of his carriage once the party arrives in Comida. They have a very loud, violent reunion until Sir Morris Brie steps in to peel Jack off of Amethar.
He later approaches Amethar when he's speaking with Sir Morris and teases him about the woman he slept with in the Far East Isles during the war. When Basha Myaso, leader of the Beef clans, shoots Amethar a dirty look, Jack jokes about taking him down right then and there—he'll go for the legs. Amethar admonishes him saying he can't do that stuff anymore now that he's a king.
Lapin's Big Day[]
At the Cathedral of Saint Arugula, Amethar notices that Manta Ray is hanging in shackles from a wall. He is unconscious and looks to have been tortured.
Chaos in the Cathedral[]
During the fight to escape from the Cathedral, Ruby attempts to mage hand and unshackle him but fails and as a result loses her thieves tools.
Escape from the Bulb Creeps[]

Safe Harbor[]
When the Taste Buds arrive in Port Syrup, Manta Ray Jack and Sir Morris Brie are waiting for them, having escaped Comida with Lord Calroy Cruller to warn Candia of the impending war. Manta Ray then sails the party down the Cola River to Castle Candy.
Blood & Bread[]
After the party escapes from Castle Candy, they return to Manta Ray's ship. Manta Ray then sails them back up the Cola River to the Great Stone Candy Mountains.
The Two Balls[]
When the Taste Buds are strategizing at Castle Manylicks, Manta Ray suggests that the quickest way for the party to enter Castle Candy is by sailing a small group of people down the Cola River.
The Ravening War[]
The Light and the Shadow[]
During a meeting of the leaders right before the Battle of Pangranos, Jack is seen tagging along with Prince Amethar Rocks, much to his sister, General Rococoa's dismay. She refuses to let him into the planning tent.
Trivia[]
- Due to his loud, explosive nature and nautical background, fans of the show gave him the nickname of "Bill Cheesecaster", after Bill Seacaster, an equally volatile pirate from Fantasy High.
- In 'Safe Harbor', Brennan strongly implies that before sailing for House Cheddar, Manta Ray Jack was a pirate.
- His mini was sold as part of the Dimension 20 A Crown Of Candy Auction for $3,700.69.
