Synopsis[]
The party arrives at Times Square to find a huge icy cocoon throbbing with energy, surrounded by mutant Santa Clones with bristles and spines erupting from their skin. Some have insectoid carapaces, some with tentacles instead of arms, some with circular mouths instead of faces. They begin taking out the mutant Santas.
Kingston determines that the fortress is a a cocoon, before blessing Kugrash, Ricky, and Sofia with the strength of New York City. Ricky, seeing that Sofia is about to charge into the fight, reminds her to be careful before she marches in, before swinging his axe, solidly connecting with the nearest Santa clone. Upon doing so, he notices that some of the clones are more sinewy and tentacley, while others, like the one he just hit, are thicker and more rocky.
The chrysalis then starts glowing a little brighter, as the mutants begin to encircle Ricky. Suddenly, one of the mutants starts growling, before a burst of plasma comes out of his backside, shooting him onto the roof of an underground subway entrance. Three more mutants then come rushing out of the cocoon, as the ones surrounding Ricky try to swing at him, one of which connecting his sickly claw. Then, the mutant on the roof rips open his stomach, begins his horrible growling once again, as a burning hot chunk of coal shoots out of his innards and nails Pete in the face.
Sofia rushes towards Ricky and pops the nearest clone twice in the mouth. Upon doing so, she realizes that the clones that are more tentacley are slimier or and squishier, but the ones that are more rocky that Ricky is fighting off are more brittle. Pete invokes the voices in his bracelet that he was hearing earlier, and tries to blow them out of the bracelet. The voices then respond with "Everyone's dreamed of burning alive, and now it's time for you to dream too", as fire launches out of the bracelet, exploding one Santa into a swarm of peppermint shards on impact. Pete then explodes another Santa clone, but the close proximity of the clone causes Ricky to be damaged by the peppermint shards.
Sofia investigates the ice fortress, tries to slide inside it but the ice closes in around her. She notices that because of Kugrash's Flaming Sphere and the thing inside trying to batter its way out, the structure of the ice seems very weak. She heaves the cocoon off of herself, hearing a voice in her head saying "it is what it is", and shatters it against a building. Inside they see an enormous Santa monster as well as an unconscious Santa.
Pete casts Sleep on the smaller Santa clones and experiences his first Wild Magic surge. He feels his magic connect with Kingston's and all of his sorcery points are restored.
Ricky Matsui decapitates the giant Santa clone queen with his Questing Blade, Sofia catches Santa in her arms, and the decapitated body begins to dance up Broadway, and eventually collapses. With the help of Santa, they finish off the rest of the Santa clones, who no longer seem to have much purpose but are still violently lashing out.
The party is able to talk to Santa, who is badly injured and appears to have had some eggs laid in his body. He throws up a bunch of gel eggs containing tadpoles with Santa hats. Santa teleports them to Central Park to investigate his sleigh which is now surrounded by cops from the waking world, who see the sleigh as a Toyota Camry. Santa finds that his list is missing, and explains this is very bad, because it is being used by St. Peter and the Devil to decide who should go to Heaven or Hell. He hurries off back to the North Pole without getting his eggs looked at.
