Description[]
Appearance[]
Cole is a 6 ft 4 muscular old man who wears a leather breastplate, as well as a great sword on his back. He has a shaved head, and a salt and pepper goatee (although it is more salt than pepper at this point.)
Personality[]
Cole is very negative towards Bandlebridge, and towards Shoeberg in general. But he always holds dearly his unique merry old soul , which never fades , which everyone eventually grows to appreciate.
Background[]
The place Cole was born - Jubilee - doesn't exist anymore, and this is probably part of the reason he hates Shoeberg - it represents something cruel prospering, while smaller, kinder communities fall. It is implied he was the ruler of this place. As far as he knows, he is its last survivor ... but is still said ruler of the land and realms of that land ..
Before Jubilee was attacked, it was a small and merry place, that was tucked away and safe. Cole and his kingdom were able to ignore the outside world, and celebrate. Every night his Fiddlers Three played for an hour before every meal and everyone in the castle would dance atop the table.
History[]
The Times of Shadow[]
After meeting Mother Timothy Goose in the caravan on the way to Shoeberg, they talk about the merrier times in Jubilee, before his kingdom was destroyed in the war. They bond over how much they have both lost. As Timothy comforts him, fiddling music comes from his magical book. As Cole looks into it he sees his Fiddlers and begins reciting the rhyme Old King Cole. He starts glowing, returns to how he looks before the Times of Shadow when he was fat and merry, and disappears.
The Last Wish[]
Cole is seen along with Jack Hubbard-Goose, Little Miss Muffet, the Itsy Bitsy Spider, and the Golden Goose in Timothy's book.
The Trials of Baba Yaga[]
Once the Stepmother's true name is put in Tim's book, the previous illustration of the others within is accompanied by pictures of the Destiny's Children going into battle against the Stepmother outside the villiage of Hapley.
Relationships[]
Lord Bandlebridge[]
Cole expresses a deep dislike for Bandlebridge, calling him an idiot, and Shoeberg "a festering boil on the face of the Neverafter". Cole intimidates him into backing off from Pinocchio. He refers to Bandlebridge as "Bainbridge", and tells him to stop being nosy and keep his thoughts to himself.
Princess Elody[]
Cole and Elody both fought on the same side to save Jubilee, and he sung her praises to Gerard.
Mother Timothy Goose[]
When Timothy first sees Cole, he immediately reacts by saying "I'm taken, but just...you're large...". Cole immediately refers to Timothy as his friend, and suggests that Bandlebridge should back off from Pinocchio, pointing out that Timothy is a witch. He refers to Bandlebridge as "Bainbridge", and tells him to stop being nosy and keep his thoughts to himself.
Princess Rosamund[]
Cole is happy when Rosamund remembers the Fiddlers Three from his Home Kingdom of Jubilee, and tells her it's an honour to meet her.
