Escape from the Bloodkeep

Description[]

"You see that he's a scruffy ranger. He's spent the last 80 years out sleeping in the woods and the mud and the rain, and has a sort of crown that doesn't seem like he wears it well on his head. He's just like a sort of rugged, outdoorsy guy." Brennan Lee Mulligan

Background[]

Percival is the son of Paraval and the true heir to the throne of Tiriath. However, he did not ascend to the throne, instead roaming the forests of Elna as a ranger, and coming to be known as Stalker, the Ranger of the North. His isolation and common ways have given him a gruff, bumbling kind of unintelligent demeanor, though his knowledge of the wilderness is expansive.

During his time as a ranger, he met Efink Murderdeath, and after a single night together they married, though by Efink's recounting they haven't seen each other in centuries.

At some point shortly before the incursion of the Forces of Light into Gorgar, he is placed on the throne of Tiriath and crowned the True King.

History[]

Volcano of Violence[]

Percival is brought to the fight at the Scary Volcano by John Feathers, and attacks the Lieutenants while trying to convince Efink he loves her and to come live with him as queen in Tiriath. He is swallowed by the Lava Mog in short order, sustaining massive damage, but is healed by Efink, who cannot make up her mind what to do regarding their marriage.

The Caged Elf and the Crown[]

When the fight is over, Percival stabilizes a dying Galfast Hamhead and Efink attempts to coach him into deceiving her colleagues and joining their cause. This mostly fails, but Percival is grudgingly allowed to tag along when the group travels to Karradkar to retrieve Avanash. His interactions with the group as they travel and wait for Avanash to re-forge the crown of Zaul'Nazh mostly consist of non-sequiturs regarding wilderness survival and blunt observations that offend nearly every one of the Lieutenants. Upon Galfast's escape with the re-forged crown of Zaul'Nazh, Percival leads the group in tracking the halfling up through the Bloodkeep, but becomes distracted and loses the trail. When the Siren appears at The Bloodkeep, Percival follows Efink to board the ship, but in an attempt to enter back into Markus's good graces, Efink tricks him into moving in to kiss her and pushes him off The Bloodkeep to his death.

Trivia[]

  • Percival is an analogue for Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings.
  • Based on visuals at 48:52 of Volcano of Violence, the miniature used for Percival/Stalker is "Faramere" by Reaper Miniatures. The Crown of Tiriath was added aftermarket.
