Pirate Brawl is the sixth episode of Fantasy High: Sophomore Year.
Recap[]
"Last we left off, our brave, Bad Kids were in the pirate city of Leviathan on their quest to retrieve the Crown of the Nightmare King. Their journey had brought them, along with three of Fig's parents, a griffin, two magical vehicles, a frog made of vapor, Fabian's maid, Cathilda, and Kristen's girlfriend, Tracker O'Shaughnessey, and their classmate, Ragh Barkrock, here to Leviathan, a city surging out of the waves, made of a monolithic, behemoth of shipwrecks tied and lashed together with a big wooden pirate city built on top."
"The city of Leviathan was home to many adventures. They managed to get their van out of impound right away from the Warforged boatswain of Leviathan, Jamina Joy. They met Alistair Ash, the Tiefling, former street urchin and current warlock of Fabian's father, Bill Seacaster. They arrived at the Gold Gardens, where they ran afoul of Captain James Whitclaw, the illithid captain of the Crimson Claw, and met Garthy O'Brien, who's the proprietor of the Gold Gardens, a half-orc aasimar who gave them a lot of information about the crown passing through Leviathan previously, about their relationship with Bill Seacaster as a palimpsest supplier, about their bag of gems that had gone missing."
"And we ended last session with Fabian going up to the Crow's Keep to look at his father's old stomping grounds through the night, as well as seeing our friends get totally blasted, high as hell, get a bunch of tattoos, and ending on a very harrowing bit of mother/daughter complication, as Fig watched her mom go into the bedchambers of Garthy O'Brien, the proprietor."
Synopsis[]
Riz and Kristen investigate Sandra Lynn's escapade with Garthy O'Brien. To distract the guards at Garthy's door, Kristen ties a ribbon to a stick and starts ribbon dancing. When that did not work, they decide to lie and say that they need Sandra Lynn to placate Kristen's fear of the dark. Sandra Lynn comes out of the room and is annoyed from being interrupted during her hook-up. Kristen says she is worried, since Sandra Lynn is acting poly, despite not being poly. Riz does not know what to do. Sandra Lynn reminds Kristen that this is not appropriate and Riz drags Kristen away.
At the Crow's Keep, Fabian meets his father's followers who are throwing a banquet to welcome him. He is introduced to Creaky McBarrel, Old Young Benjamin and Chungledown Bim. The pirates at first were elated, believing Old Bill had sent his son to deliver them from their fate. Eagerly, they ask Fabian to tell the story of how he killed his father After finding out that Fabian did not slay his father in combat, the group was horrified, believing themselves to be doomed. One scared warlock flung himself off of the Crow's Keep, but used a spell to slow his descent. It turns out that Capt. Whitclaw had sworn to kill every follower of Bill and make the streets run with their blood. The warlocks had hoped that Fabian was a warrior who kill defeat Capt. Whitclaw after hearing that he had been able to kill his own father. Fabian insists that he is just as good as his dad. Just then, Creaky reports that Capt. Whitclaw was passing by the courtyard below with 30 members of his crew. Fabian announces they are going to get the jump on Whitclaw and his men and kill them. A shaky Alistair rouses the warlock's spirits with a speech, saying that though the story turned out to not be what they had thought and they are devastated, he doesn't believe that Old Bill would abandon them after all the gold the cult have given to him. This convinces the warlocks follow Fabian into battle with a cheer.
Before the battle begins, Fabian telepathically tells the Hangman what he is about to do. The demonic motorcycle tears off to join his master. The rest of the Bad Kids learn about what is happening through the Hangvan and desperately try to get to Fabian's side, but are too far away.
As Whitclaw approaches the half-destroyed mansion the warlocks are in, Fabian kicks down the door and attack him. The warlocks follows his lead, unleashing spells which looks to be made of gold coins. Encouraged, Fabian promises that all the gold used to cast spells would be on him. After the initial surprise, Whitclaw managed to hold his own against Fabian's swordsmanship, causing him to retreat as the warlocks attack. However, the battle quickly turns in Whitclaw's favour as he make use of his psionic abilities, killing most of the warlocks, including Creaky Mcbarrel, in one attack. Knowing the battle is lost, Old Young Benjami] flees into the riggings, a surviving unnamed warlock disappears into the night and Chungledown Bim looks at Fabian in disgust, insulting him and attacking him with an Eldrich blast. He then threatens to shit in Fabian's mouth, which causes Fabian to fight back tears. Alister assures Fabian that he is loyal to the end and bravely tries to grapple Captain Whitclaw to protect Fabian. However Whitclaw easily subdues him. Wounded and outnumbered, Fabian leaps off of the Crows Keep to escape Whitclaw, abandoning a devastated Alister to Whitclaw's vices. The clothesline rope Fabian was holding onto snapped and he ends up falling through the air. He gets tangled up in more rope but managed to save himself at the last possible second. The rest of the group arrives to find him cocooned in rope and underwear, suspended upside down in a knot 7 feet off the ground, blood dripping off his head into a puddle on the floor. They cut him down and ask him what happened but Fabian is very crestfallen and subdued.
After returning to the Golden Gardens, Fabian sleeps in his room, with Riz and the Hangman standing guard. Adaine trances and then is awake while the others are sleeping. She asks Ragh who his first kiss was and Raugh attacks her. Adaine casts Tasha's Hideous Laughter on Ragh and then Gorgug subdues him.
Meanwhile, in his nightmares, Fabian sees the death of the warlocks of his father's cult, Chungle Down Bim threatening to shit in his mouth, the dead pirates of Bill's crew looking at him with disappointment and he feels the weight of his father's sadness. A wet papery hand touches Fabian's shoulder, telling him that things will get better. Fabian instinctively knows that if he turns to look at the face of this figure, something bad will happen. The figure offers Fabian banana yogurt and shows Fabian his life's work, a beautiful garden filled with monuments to Bill Seacaster, the greatest pirate that ever lived. As they walk within the garden, Fabian notices that he is not in the pictures and asks the figure why. The figure askes him why would he put up pictures of himself and says that would be very cocky and papa would not approve. The yogurt curdles in Fabian's stomach as the figure asks Fabian to look at him. Fabian is forced to turn around and sees an older, ill-dressed version of himself, with a combover and a gut. The older nightmare version of Fabian starts to laugh hysterically over his sad existence and Fabian wakes up in a start. He finds himself floating in the ocean. He discards his leather jacket and eyepatch as he swims back to the leviathan.
Riz wakes up paralyzed with Kalina sitting on his chest. The Hangman is badly damaged, it's flaming eyes are out. Kalina says she hasn't seen Riz since he was a baby. She threatens to kill his friends if he doesn't tell her what she wants to know. To save Fabian, Riz gives up his secrets.
