Description[]
Jonathan is an incredibly handsome prince, perhaps the most handsome man the Princess Rosamund du Prix has ever seen. However, when Rosamund first meets him, he and his (now dead) horse are caught in Sleeping Beauty's briars. His crown is tilted on his head. He is dehydrated and malnurished, partically impaled on his own sword, and unable to feel his arms and legs.
Background[]
Jonathan was told by a wise woman about Rosamund's curse, and wanted to save her. In the process, however, he and his horse dove into her enchanted briars, and became stuck.
History[]
The Trials of the Baba Yaga[]
While carrying out her chore for the Baba Yaga, Rosamund finds Jonathan caught among her home's cursed briar patch, paralyzed and near death. While trying to help him, the fairies tell her that Jonathan is, in fact, her Prince Charming; her true love. Furthermore, if she helps them, they can save him and set Rosamund's story to right ie the way that it was "meant to be." After trying and failing to convince the princess to help them, the Wicked Fairy makes herself known. She says that it is Rosamund who is allowing the prince to die, and, if she wants to save him, she needs to accept her destiny. She then challenges Rosamund as to why she feels she is worthy of her "happily ever after" without the sorrows of her story. Rosamund replies Jonathan doesn't get to "win" her love simply because he was able to make it through a briar patch. Love isn't a final outcome. It's something that is chosen and built over time. Frustrated with her answer, the Wicked Fairy causes the briars to tighten their hold over the dying prince. This also doesn't work, Rosamund insisting that she wants a life where she is allowed to make her own choices, instead of her story merely happening "to' her. Bosartia continues to tighten the briars around Prince Jonathan, until Rosamund, feeling that he doesn't deserve the fate her story placed on him either, makes the choice to give up the hope of being with her Prince Charming, and be alone instead. This choice causes the briars to begin to come out of the princess' body. They take Jonathan out of their grasp, put him on the cliff he came from, and grow around him to protect him as he recovers. As a parting gift, Rosamund sends a few birds there to keep him company when he wakes up.
