Description[]

"Hello, my name is Rosamund du Prix. I am the princess of the kingdom of Reverie, and any moment now, my true love will come and kiss me, and help me to escape. [...] Her dress is ripped and torn. There are cuts across her face. Her beautiful, golden ringlets are matted with blood, and she has fashioned for herself a bow made of thorns." Siobhan Thompson

Appearance[]

After being released from the curse. Rosamund's dress is ripped and torn, and her body is covered with cuts and scrapes. Her once-beautiful golden ringlets are tangled and matted with blood, and she carries a bow made of thorns, which she fashioned herself. Her slippers have fallen apart, leaving her barefoot. Her body is pretty wiry.

Personality[]

Rosamund is optimistic to the point of naïveté, due to her mental youth. This is presumably as a reference to the Disney Princess trope. Additionally, as she was raised with the knowledge of her curse, she has spent her life knowing she is meant to be saved, and still believes that a prince will someday rescue her. She can speak three different languages: Common, Celestial, and Sylvan.

Background[]

Rosamund was born to the King and Queen of Reverie, who loved each other deeply and wished for a daughter more than anything else. Upon her birth, only three of the four powerful fairies of the kingdom were invited to give their blessings to the new princess. The first gave the gift of beauty, the second the gift of grace before being interrupted by the uninvited fairy who cursed the child to die on her eighteenth birthday upon injuring her finger on a spinning wheel. The third fairy gave the child the gift of a change to the curse; instead of dying, the princess and the kingdom would fall into sleep for a hundred years after which she would be awoken by true love's kiss. Her parents tried to prevent this fate by removing all the spinning wheels from the kingdom, but the curse prevailed. and she along with her kingdom fell into a deep and long sleep.

History[]

Instead of waking to the kiss of her true love, Rosamund awoke a hundred years after the onset of the curse, trapped by briars both surrounding her and inside her body. She seems to have also gained an extra sense, feeling other people's heartbeat and breath through the vines. With great pain and effort, she is able to pull the briars from her body and get up. As she snags her skin on a thorn, she sees a vision showing her that she is surrounded by the corpses of princes who had tried to rescue her, in various states of decomposition. She can only see the corpses when she touches the briars, leading her to believe that the briars want her to know that they have kept her "safe", and want her to go back to sleep. She tries to soothe the frightened briars, but soon gives up and escapes the castle, ripping her skin on the thorns.

After escaping her former kingdom, Rosamund travels on the road for a while, eventually finding herself in the back of a carriage with Prince Gerard of Greenleigh. When the Chandling Caravan stops to rest for the evening, she meets the other party members, and gives polite, formal introductions befitting of her upbringing, holding her hand out for the others to kiss it.

Relationships[]

Cinderella[]

After the battle in the Canonade, Rosamund goes to Cinderella in a moment of truce. Cinderella muses on the appearance of her Stepmother in the battle; that the pain of all of their lives was either completely random, or completely destined to happen. Either way, it just feels hollow and horrifying. Rosamund replies, while that is true, they can work so that the bad things happen a lot less. They walk away together, talking about a cow that Rosamund had previously met who can jump over the moon.

Old King Cole[]

Cole is happy when Rosamund remembers the Fiddlers Three from his home Kingdom of Jubilee, and tells her it's an honour to meet her.

Prince Gerard of Greenleigh[]

Gerard and Rosamund travel together along the Chandling Caravan, and are cousins three times over due to frequency of incest in royal lineages.

Pinocchio[]

Pinocchio has been tasked by his stepmother to keep Rosamund out of harm's way.

Puss in Boots[]

When they first meet, Rosamund puts her hand out to be kissed, and PiB just kinda bats at it.

The Stepmother[]

The Stepmother has a mysterious interest in Rosamund, wishing to keep her safe from the forces hunting her. She orders Pinocchio to protect her and to stay hidden, without elaborating on her reasons.

Thumbelina[]

When Thumbelina is knocked unconscious in the final battle with the Daughters of the Crown, Rosamund is able to revive her. Later, when Rosamund is killed by Snow White, Thumbelina rushes to her side, and, in her state of death, asks Rosamund if it's her time. Sleeping Beauty replies that it isn't, and before Thumbelina can respond, the briars from within Rosamund reach into the tiny woman's eyes, pulling her brain out of her head, and ripping her in half. Rosamund, having consumed this darker version of her story, is then brought back to a kind of life, albeit as a darker version for whom a happy ending is no longer possible. The briars can no longer be stopped, and are actively pumping her heart for her as her body is, from this point on, dead.

Ylfa Snorgelsson[]

When they first meet, Rosamund puts her hand out to be kissed, and Ylfa leaves her lips there too long because she isn't sure how to do it properly.

After the final battle in the Canonade, Ylfa fully embraces her role as the Big Bad Wolf, and leaves the little girl behind. Rosamund goes up to the girl, asking if she's lost, and tells her that they'll find her parents together, to which the little girl replies that they should find her grandmother instead. When the girl says that she wants to be Rosamund when she grows up, the princess tells her that isn't important, as she's beautiful and brave as is.

The Story of Sleeping Beauty (Reclaimed)[]

"Once upon a time, there was a princess who decided to try speed dating." ― Siobhan Thompson

Rosamund is still born into royalty, and given magical gifts and one curse from the Conclave of Fairies. However, instead of being protected from the spindle, never interacting with one until she's sixteen, and immediately getting hurt by it, Rosamund decides to learn how to use it. This way she's able to interact with it safely.

On her eighteenth birthday, when the Wicked Fairy tries to trick her into hurting herself on a spinning wheel, she instead is able to subvert the magical being with her knowledge. Thwarted, Bosartia tries to simply attack Rosamund with the spindle, and promptly gets her ass kicked by the princess, grabbing the cursed spindle out of her hand. Now owning what would have been the object of her destruction, Rosamund lives her days as an accomplished magical princess.
