Rescue at Buzzybrook is the twelfth episode of season 5, A Crown of Candy.

"We open our adventure here in Alpine Village in the Great Stone Candy Mountains. You have appeared in in a circle of stone in the Sweetening Path, hidden away from sight in this village. We have not rolled initiative yet because combat has not started yet. As you appear in the circle here, there is a little whiff of sweet smell, but no light or sound. There's some dull glow to the runes but they are not glowing brilliantly, they're not casting light. There's a little bit of a slight glow."
Synopsis[]
As the group appears in the stone circle, they see the burnt remains of the Village of Buzzybrook, high in the Great Stone Candy Mountains. Caramelinda is managing to hold onto the spell alright for now. Liam cast Pass Without Trace on the group to keep them hidden. Outside, Ceresian soldiers force Candian villagers into the town square and form tth into a crowd. They do not see the Jawbreaker outside yet. Two Bulbian priests and two paladins stand on either side of the gallows in front of the sugar hut. Saccharina casts a personal ice fort for Caramelinda to stay inside as she hold onto her spell along with a minor illusion sweater to keep her warm inside.
Ruby uses her thieves tools to unlock the back door of the hut and it opens without a sound. Liam and Ruby runs to look through windows of nearby houses. Liam sees Archbishop Onionpatch from the attempted massacre at the Cathedral attending to church business in his journals with Sir Bonathan Flashfry guarding out front. He is going over notes that show pictures of monsters that are alchemical constructions in Ceresian and schematics for liquid daggers. Liam feels something bestial and primal within himself as he marks the Archbishop as his prey and disguises himself as the Archbishop. Ruby sees Commander Grissini speaking to a woman with Candian spiritual paint and green minty leave growing from the side of her face. She messages to Liam that she thinks his mom, Spearia, is in that hut. Together they realize that Ciabatta passed along all of Alfredi's notes to the church and they have expanded upon her work.
With trumpets announcing his entrance, Duke Joren Jawbreaker marches out from a tent in chains and is led to the noose and the priest begins reciting his charges and his last rites before the trapdoor opens and Joren drops. In flash of sucrose magic Sir Theobald severs the rope and Joren falls to the ground below. Liam shoots through an unopened window at the Archbishop, breaking the glass. He is alerted to the attack, only for another two arrows to fly through the air and pin him down to his chair as he sees himself holding a crossbow vanish into the night. Liam then hides in a nearby burned down house. Ruby leaps on to a ladder and then slinks into the attic of where she can hear Grissini barking orders to his men outside.
Saccharina flies over the crowd to grab Jawbreaker. With a lightning flash they are gone and only a few Vegetanians are left still alive if only by an inch of their life. Back in the sugar hut Saccharina hands off Jawbreaker's unconscious body to Amethar. Cumulous rushes onto the gallows. Red cotton candy swirls around him as he shatters the long neck of priest and then kicks the back of a knight's head and kills him as well before diving in the hole. Amethar tells the crowd of Candians to get into the sugar hut before killing two Ceresian soldiers near him. Manta Ray skewers a Ceresian solider on the other side of the hut.
The Candians pile into the sugar hut as fast as possible. Theo breaks into a building sees one dude and stabs him before the soldier falls immediately dead on the ground. Gooey and Swifty run in after and collect all the weapons inside that they find. Grissini leave his building and walk over towards Amethar and does a loud piercing whistle. One guard follows another lights a signal beacon in the town. Liam takes another shot at the Archbishop putting him on death's door. Ruby jumps down and frees Spearia and turns her invisible.
Knights close in on Amethar, Manta Ray, and Cumulous. Saccharina goes through the sugar hut. She leans over to Grissini and tells him to "watch his banner burn" as she lights him and every infantry soldier in her path up. The smell of cracking electric vanilla fills the air. Cumulous escapes the gallows platform and swings at a knight before jumping over a roof. Amethar rushes to Grissini, gets in his face and asks if he remembers his daughter because she is dead now but his new old daughter is right behind him before he swings on him doubling the damage done to Grissini.
The Archbishop casts fire on the general location of Liam before ducking out of the view from the window. Flashfry leaves his post and charges towards Saccharina and Amethar. From the shadowy mist, various golems of bread and wheat and a corn monster emerge. They both take hits but are still standing. Liam goes into the house and asks the Archbishop who is in the military tent and finds out it was for Sir Keradin Deeproot but he has gone out on a long patrol after fugitives from the village. Liam ices him without hesitation and as he leaves the house, his body changes from a human apology to a wild predator that neither fears nor acknowledges him. He picks up the book, magic shadows returning the loose pages to it, and walks out into the night knocking down a flag and shooting Flashfry. Ruby goes dashing over to the tent as Spearia gets into the sugar hut, Ruby taking damage from archers as she moves. Theo is held tight in a priest's magical grip. Caramelinda yells out that she cannot hold on anymore.
After multiple attacks Saccharina thunder-steps herself and Amethar into the sugar hut. She yells at Swifty to run as fast as possible to run and get Ruby back to them. Amethar attacks a golem in front of him while yelling at Ruby to move who takes that chance to continue into the tent and grabs all the intel inside. Manta Ray slides inside with Cumulous following right behind. At this point only Theo, Ruby and Liam are outside the hut. The golems move in and start attacking the sugar hut but are not able to bring it down. Theo is finally freed from the magical grasp but is hit again and feels some sort of rot creep into him. Gooey runs into the hut with even more weapons. Swifty rushes to Ruby to help before running back. Theo uses Swirlwarden inside the hut.
Sir Keradin and his men return and meet Liam in the eye. Liam runs towards the door barely squeaks into the hut. He feels a warm hand on his face and a voice say "Oh no, they took my sweet baby and made him a war guy." Ruby leaps into the sugar hut just in time. Grissini calls for golems to charge the hut with Candians inside. The ice melts around Caramelinda, the runes glow. Liam sees his father's eyes open as his wife reappears and he goes, "Look at ya. Something good. I'm proud of you, Preston."
