Description[]

"I'm a firefighter in New York, specifically in Brooklyn. I believe in doing the right thing and I always wanted to be a firefighter. So I accomplished that goal, so I'm feeling really good about myself. I'm pretty much set for life, I guess? So I'm just here to help. Ricky Matsui is like 5'8", but really strong. He just works out. You just, keep your body right to keep your mind right. It's the cheapest therapy you can have, working out... he's kind of like Superman-ish if he were Japanese." Zac Oyama

Background[]

Ricky Matsui's origin story is one of the deepest secrets of the Unsleeping City. It was revealed that he did in fact go to high school, spent a year and a half at community college, and then immediately trained to become a firefighter.

Whilst rescuing the wizards of the Clinton Hill Chantry from a fire, The Questing Blade shot out of its podium into Ricky's hand, introducing him into the waking world.

History[]

Start Spreading the News[]

Ricky is first introduced rescuing a child from a burning building, secretly using his Paladin powers to safely get the two of them out the building. After getting the child to safety, speaking to a news team, and showing his abs to the grandmother of the child, Ricky gets a phone call from Esther Sinclair telling him they should meet up to talk about SantaCon and what may happen. Ricky sprints over New York rooftops to meet with her at the Clinton Hill Chantry.

After learning about the ethical nightmare that is SantaCon, Ricky leaves the Chantry, but catches on to and follows a minty smell that leads him to an alleyway where Pete lies unconscious, surrounded by mutated clones of Santa that menacingly creep towards him. Intimidating the Santa clones away, Ricky carries Pete to the only place he knows that can fix Pete's new peppermint tooth.

Relationships[]

The Dream Team[]

Esther Sinclair[]

One of Ricky's biggest secrets that literally everyone in the party was aware of was that he had a massive crush on Esther, often times sending her selfies of what he's doing and trying to sound intelligent in front of her. However, because of a family curse, she kept her distance to not subject herself to feelings as she grows closer to him. It isn't until the curse is inevitably broken that she finally admits (in front of her mother and grandmother who were also subjected by the curse) that she wants to fuck him so bad and that he is so hot.

Esther, after being summoned into battle against the American Dream, confesses her feelings and HEAVILY makes out with Ricky, affirming she loves him.

In Chapter II, they have been dating for 3 years and live together in the Clock Tower of the Clinton Hill Chantry.

Cody Walsh[]

Ricky was determined to bond with Cody "Night Angel" Walsh when he joined the Dream Team as a fellow Paladin, wanting to take on a "father who wants to bond with his child" role in guiding Cody in the Unsleeping City. However, there was a bit of a divide with Cody's anime and video game references, to which Ricky had started watching Naruto to understand.

Tensions arose during Trouble at the Tunnel when Sofia Lee returns the Questing Blade from Dale to Ricky, but instead of returning to its former master, it reshaped into a sick ass sword and bestowed itself to Cody, causing Ricky to be uncharacteristically angry and jealous.

Trivia[]

  • Has posed for a fireman's calendar, as mentioned by an old woman in Episode One. His photo was used for March, hence the nickname "Mr. March"
  • He had a very obvious massive crush on Esther Sinclair, prior to them finally getting together at the end of season 1.
  • His favorite book is 'The Mind Hacker' (though he didn't comprehend most of what he read).
  • His two minis were sold as part of the Dimension 20 The Unsleeping City Auction for $1,279 and $751.
  • His name is a tribute to Zac Oyama's childhood dog as revealed on Zac's Pandemic Animal Crossing Streams.
