Description[]
Building[]
The Office Building is a short four-story stone building with an art decoey look to it.[1][2] The building lacks an open lobby and instead has buzzers for the offices inside to let people in, unless one has a key. The front door, however, does not have magical protections though. Thus allowing people to cast spells, such as mage hand, to open the door from the inside and gain access to the building, as demonstrated by Adaine when she and the other bad kids journeyed to the office to check on Riz after he did not meet them, or answer his phone, on the morning they were supposed to begin their spring beak quest to retrieve the Crown of the Nightmare King.[2]
The main stairway of the building is described as having, musty, character filled, cracked marble steps.[1]
Riz's Office[]
The office is located on the third floor of the building and is described as a "classic detective's office".[1][2] It also has a lot of secret compartments, and hidden doors built into it, with one of the compartments having a gun hidden inside of it.[2]
The main door to the office is a frosted glass one with the words "Riz Gukgak, Licensed Private Investigator." on it in gold lettering.[1][2] The door is an older one that requires a key to open and lock it from either side, and unlike the front; being chalked up to Riz's paranoia, mage hand cannot be used to open it, and if it's hit a dart will shoot out.[2] However it cannot stop people going through it with spells like misty step. It is later broken off its hinges by Gorgug when Adain takes too long to locate the spare key when she misty steps into the office, with it landing on top of her as she tries to turn the key in the lock to let the others in[2]
The floor plan of the office is split into three main areas.
The central room directly connected to the front door acts as a reception area. There is little wooden desk with a banker's lamp on it that could be used for a receptionist.[1] Along with a standing mirror that was originally in Riz's file cabinet room located in here.[3] When the bads kids arrive at office the room now has obvious signs of struggle including a bullet hole in the wall, and claw marks across the wooden floor that lead to the standing mirror.[2][3] There is also a secret compartment in the floor that Riz was able to slip a photo of his father and a Tabaxi women in as he was dragged away by his romance partner Barron through the mirror.[3] There is also a lot of half empty tumblers with black coffee in them scattered around the room.[2]. After defeating the extraplanar nightmare version of Riz, dubbed "Rig", that latter during the Bad Kids Junior Year was revealed to actually be Baron, that emerged from the mirror that Adaine used dispel magic on, and Kristen was able to banish; the mirror ends up shattering.[2]
There are also two offices connected to the central room.
To one side there is a small office that could be used for a partner or file cabinets, which Riz later turns into his file cabinet room.[1][3]
The other office, which Riz turned into his own, is located in the back of the central room.[3] It has a little window along with a wooden desk, with bunch of sliding math department blackboards on its walls, and a corkboard on wheels in it.[1] After Riz moves in, one of walls is now covered in a crazy "Pepe Silvia-esgue" yarn conspiracy/detective board with all his evidence from his investigation into the Nightmare King's crown on it.[1][2]
He also keeps a lot of file-boxes from different case in his office. Including one from his investigation on the missing maidens from freshman year in a corner that has, "Missing Maidens A.K.A The Kalvaxis Kaper. Closed!" written on it. Which also contains some of his personal affects, such as the Photograph of his dad and the Tabaxi women.[2][3] Riz also keeps a little chemical kit is office that contains things like chemical dry-erase markers, so he tests and write on evidence without ruining it.[3]
There is also a photo of his mom and himself when he was a baby, taken in their apartment, on his desk. The photo is of him with his mom's police cap on, pushing his ears down, sitting on their kitchen table. While she stands next to him in her full police regalia, back before she was a detective.[2]
