Ruben Hopclap is a bard junior at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy, member of the Rat Grinders, and recent breakout rock star.

Description[]
Ruben is a gnomish bard. His hair is in a full emo swoop. He wears a t-shirt over a striped long sleeved shirt. He is another rock star, which makes Fig jealous. He has a tattoo of a rat getting crushed by gears, representing his adventuring party, the Ratgrinders.
History[]
Not All Who Wanda Are Lost[]
Whilst in Jawbone's car, going to their first day of Junior Year, Adaine, Fig and Kristen hear Ruben's song, In Space No One Can Feel You Dying. Upon arriving at the school, they see him getting mobbed by other students, asking for his autograph. The Bad Kids also learn he is part of the Ratgrinders, alongside Kipperlilly Copperkettle, so Fig disguises herself as an emo girl named 'Wanda Childa', to spy on him during Bard Class. He seems interested in Wanda, and comments on her scent of cigarettes and peach schnapps. When Fig later enters as herself, Ruben gives her a sneer, as he gets a text message from Lola Embers.
Fracas at the Frostyfaire Folk Festival[]
Ruben headlines the Frostyfaire Folk Festival, with his band: My Clerical Gnomance. Before his performance, he attempts to lure the Bad Kids into taking drugs, but his disguise is sucessfully perceived and dispelled. He enrages Gorgug by saying that he has never taken a shit. He ends the encounter by claiming that he is being mobbed for autographs, when no one seenms to have noticed him. When taking the stage, Principal Grix casts Disintegrate on him, which Adaine counterspells successfully. He continues to play throughout the chaos.
Vulture Clash[]
After the fair has ended, the Bad Kids discover arcanotech under the stage that seems to be part of a ritual. When they discover the body of Yolanda, they realize that her death coincides with Ruben's performance.
Cursed Out[]
Fig and Ruben meet, with Fig disguised as Wanda Childa, listening to a podcast about Lucy Frostblade. He seems surprised when he is told that Lucy's body was found. He compliments Lucy and gives Wanda an email to contact him to be on the podcast. Once again, he claims to be being mobbed for autographs.
A Very Merry Moonar Yulenear[]
Fig appears to Ruben in a dream disguised as Kipperlilly, telling Ruben he needs to take the blame for Lucy's death. A blood-like substance begins to fall from Ruben's mouth, not caused by Fig. Later when talking to Gertie Fig implies that the blood-like substance she saw may be devils honey.
Ragenarok (Part 1)[]
During the final showdown between the Bad Kids and the Rat Grinders, Fig finally reveals to Ruben that she was Wanda Childa the whole time. This occurs after Ruben includes "Wanda" in his Psychic Scream spell, causing Fig to berate both him and his music, livid that her efforts all year to get him to fall in love with Wanda were for nothing. Ruben dies when Fig casts Fireball on him and he is thrown into magma, being sucked straight to Hell and forced to organize wires for Fig's sound studio for the rest of eternity.
