Shoeberg is one of the last prospering Kingdoms in the time of shadows. All the buildings there are shoe-shaped, and Lord Bandlebridge travels via a carriage shaped like an enormous, cream white, suede shoe with four wheels, studded with gems and stones, and led by four white horses with beautiful feathery plumes.
Cole refers to Shoeberg as "a festering boil on the face of the Neverafter", and tells the group that the founder of Shoeberg, Cressida Lumley was an unkind but prosperous woman who engaged in nepotism, and that the city, having inherited her unkindness, chews people up and spits them out.
