"Right On." ― Skip, Constantly

Skip, also called Prince Valdrinor, is a cerebro-slug and the prince of the Metaphagian Dynasty. He is possessing the body of Norman "Skipper" Takamori, a former Amercadian Space Brigade pilot and the captain of The Wurst. Both characters are played by Zac Oyama.

Description[]

"I am Norman "The Skipper" Takamori and I am the captain of this vessel and I am surrounded by morons. [...] He is like half shaved. He has like a little towel around his neck. He had his like two minutes of peace and quiet where he didn't have to hear these morons jabbering away at his ears. And then of course we're getting attacked by a fuckin' armada of drones coming in after us shooting their hyon beams. I'm in hell." Zac Oyama

Personality[]

Skip[]

Prince Valdrinor was reluctant to be a part of his father's plans for as long as he could remember. He was raised to believe that he had a royal obligation to his people to participate in the "Great Emhatchening" but he was not ready to die for his people, especially when there was such a vast and interesting galaxy out there for him to explore and experience. Skip embraces the chaos of combat and revels in the thrills of piloting starships. As an alien being inhabiting Norman's body, Skip often acts in a passive manner while he attempts to learn how he ought to act accordingly. He is considerably more mellow and kinder than Norman was, and often relies on his crewmates or his instincts for guidance. Skip tends to parrots words or phrases that he hears in his attempt to learn language and typically responds in short or single worded sentences.

Appearance[]

Skip, a.k.a. Prince Valdrinor, is an amorphous green slime about the size of a large slug that can extend himself to be about a foot long but is wide enough to enter into nasal or ear canals.

Norman sports cowboy boots and a leather jacket and jeans, as well as a jetpack strapped to his back. He is 5 ft 9, and has long arms. He has a short beard and a thick mustache and a graying head of hair, and there seems to be no noticeable physical change as Skip inhabits Norman; however, in character art of Skip, his eyes have changed colour to green.

Background[]

Skip[]

Before finding Norman Takamori, Skip was known as Prince Valdrinor, the son of King Prilbus. As Prince he was heir to the Mentaphagian Dynasty, a cerebroslug empire that spanned across the galaxy. His past host(s) are not known, but he inhabited one of them for at least long enough for them to die of old age. When migrating from this host body to the next one, the space vessel he was on exploded, ejecting his slug form into the cold void. Clinging to a crate, Skip went into a protective stasis for a long time. The crate was eventually discovered by a group of nuns from the order of the Cosmic Veil, who used it in a get rich quick scheme that Norman Takamori fell for. When Norman opened the final crate, Skip flew out and crawled up his nose, settling into his brain.

History[]

Welcome to the Spacin' Life, Buddy[]

When the crew gathers in the cargo hold to check on their last remaining prize, it is discovered that this is a crate of expired replica egg extract and it is host to a gelatinous green slime that proceeds to launch itself into Norman's face and crawl inside his body.

Rolling Up The Hill[]

As it turns out, the slime is a Cerebroslug that has attached itself to Norman's brainstem. It attempts to familiarize itself to its new "body-craft", with hilarious results, particularly since it has forgotten to switch the body's pain receptors back on. The Cerebroslug's hope to remain undetected by the crew is immediately thwarted by Riva's telepathy, and they have a brief and awkward (but friendly) conversation. As the parasite learns more and more about its host, the rest of the crew is charmed by the new and strange behaviors of "the Skipper" and quickly use the situation to their advantage - they cancel their plans to mutiny and watch the galactic blockbuster 200fast 200furious instead. The crew decides that "Skip" is a much better person than Norman and are content to let "sleeping dogs lie."

Skip shares with his host body a deep love of exploring the stars. Before the movie even ends, he goes back to the bridge to start piloting the Red Hot to Rubian V. En route to Madrugada Station, he is visited by Margaret Encino, and realizes that Norman had been taking advantage of her wealth. He attempts to thank Margaret for financing and aiding the ship, but just blurts out "you're important"; this moves Margaret, who is incredibly stressed and tired, to tears. Skip gradually gets a better handle of his bodycraft's functions, learning how to blink. Something is still amiss with it, though, so he asks Barry Syx for help by looming over his bed until he wakes up. Barry notices that Norman's body is exhausted, and helps Skip take care of himself by foam-rolling his muscles (much like how he used to help the other Barrys).

Upon arrival at Madrugada Station, Skip accompanies Barry, Gunnie and Sid to meet with proldiers about finding contracts. However, things quickly go south for them when one the proldiers at the bar broadcasts their whereabouts to Jan De La Vega. After a brief altercation the crew meets back at the ship and FTL jumps to Rec Station 97.

Relationships[]

In contrast to Norman, Skip is enormously well liked upon his body's awakening largely in part because he does not verbally abuse his crew and was willing to listen to them out of basic courtesy. Of course, this was because Skip did not know how to best respond in his fresh host body and had recently awoken from a deep stasis. At first, Riva was more aware that a new entity was piloting Norman but chose not to speak too much of it whereas the rest of the crew were happy to be able to engage in simple non-abusive conversation with the Captain. Margaret on the other hand, did not know the Captain very well beyond their professional relationship but was most likely aware to some degree that he was not a particularly likeable person. She was also more than happy to accept this new change. The crew's overall favour to this new individual was so great that they simply ignored the fact that Norman either may or not have been Norman anymore or had gone through some irreversible change, and so, simply allowed the circumstances to stand. Skip additionally unknowingly ingratiated himself with Margaret in their first meeting alone while piloting the ship as he looked Margaret in the eye and off handily remarked, "You're important." Skip only did so because Norman's memories indicated that the ship's poor fiscal situation and that Margaret was a tenant aboard the Red Hot who provided a significant source of revenue. Unbeknownst to him, Margaret was undergoing a large degree of stress in her life at the time, promptly causing her to breakdown and cry, cutting through years of therapy as she left the bridge.

  • In the Adventuring Party for episode 4, The Chaos, the Chaos of this Episode, the other cast members unknowingly predicted Skip's royalty.
  • Skip never turns on his pain receptors. However in Episode 11, Flee From Fantanimalland, Skip is seen taking pain after being shot in the ass, audibly saying "Ah, my ass!" Along with this, in Episode 12, Go Big or Go home, Skip is given brain surgery by Riva and Gunnie, and while this happens Skip once again audibly takes pain, saying things like "Ow" and "Spicy"
