Description[]
The Temple of the Earth Defiant is built atop steep spires clustered together in the Mountains of Chaos. At the heart of the temple there is a sanctum, which is magically protected from monstrous beings. Within the sanctum, there are carved statues of Dwarven heroes Kora Ironbrow, Asha Hammerheart and Yvonna of the Sundering Hills. Although it is buffeted by the wind and other elements, it is in constant upkeep by those who partake in a pilgrimage to it.
Background[]
Although the Temple of the Earth Defiant was built by dwarves, it is a holy site of pilgrimage for many other beings connected to the Earth and other elements, like Earth genasi and goliaths. It is built on the very top of the spires of the Mountains of Chaos and is incredibly remote and hard to get to, far away from any communities or living centres. Part of the holiness of the temple is that it's buffeted by the elements that are so alien to the underground homes of Dwarves. The journey to honour the heroes carved there is an act of worship in itself. It is also a place of sanctuary in the savagery of the Mountains of Chaos, as the Sanctum at the heart of the temple is powerfully hallowed such that monstrous beings cannot enter. Dwarves and other creatures make the journey to the temple to rebuild bridges and carve new heroes in defiance of the chaotic elements of the sky, allowing the temple to persevere despite the erosion of the wind.
