Pinocchio wielding the power of his own story allows him to tap into the same power as the fairies, Canon.

Pinocchio has been able to pull the Talking Cricket out of the book as a familiar, Cricket felt as though he was many things while in the book, but was fixed into the cricket from this Pinocchio's story, essentially being brought back to life.
In addition to taking things out of his book, Pinocchio has been able to put things into his book, specifically Candlewick. Candlewick is a character in Pinocchio's story, in story two Candlewick was stuck on a messed-up Toy Island; where as an adult, he thought he was still a child after some horrible event on the island. As an act of mercy, Pinocchio chose to put Candlewick into the book, sparing him from the ever-worsening Neverafter.
An example of the book pulling on Pinocchio's strings is when it made sure that a part of Pinocchio's story was going to happen, summoning Il Terribile Pescecane, The Terrible Dogfish to Toy Island.
