Description[]

As described by Key and Legend, The Authors are greater than giants and more than gods in the scope of The Realms of Story. They created the Lines Between and have tremendous power over the realms and don't even care about the denizens of the storybook realms, and are fine with all the terrible things that happen to the denizens.

Key and Legend dare not speak or even write their 'name' or title for fear of them. When the players speak of the by the name of "The Authors," they must make a charisma saving throw or receive a red bead. Because of this, they start referring to them as "The Arthurs".

History[]

The Ending of All Things (Part 2)[]

The Authors, feeling something has been happening thanks to Snow White casting a spell into the ink of the Canonade, come into the Lines Between to restore order to the stories of the Neverafter. It takes the form of a giant inky hand. In anger over the fate they created for her with her story, Princess Elody is the first to attack the Authors, repeatedly attacking it with the mace created from her golden ball. Later on, Rosamund asks the Bosartia if she really wants to be villian forever, to which the Wicked Fairy replies that it doesn't matter against the will of the, now present Authors. She then asks the princess if she's willing to throw away "happily ever after" in order to fight them. Rosamund simply replies, "Yes. Because 'happily ever after' isn't real." This response causes the Authors's hand to zone in on the princess. However, Pinocchio uses his constructs to flatten the hand to the side of the ziggarat. Once the Stepmother arrives, however, Pinocchio lets go of the Author's inky hand construct to attack her. Soon after, Turquina arrives and tries to attack the Authors. However, they quickly crush her, and pull her into their ink. Soon afterwards, standing above it, Puss in Boots muses that he doesn't like how the Authors thinks they know their stories more than they do. He throws a dagger into the construct. It whirlpools in on itself, reducing itself into ink. For the first time, the Authors become afraid as they realize that the stories are fighting back.

As all of this is happening, after Aesop and Scheherazade break through Snow White's spell, Mother Timothy Goose touches the inkwell. It feels good, as though he can write his own destiny with it. So he begins to write in his storybook:

"Once upon a time the sun rose again, and a new day started. And everyone had a pen."

This causes quills to explode out from the ink. Soon after, Timothy releases his spell to give the story characters their autonomy from the Authors, and banishing the Gander's dark presence in their world.
