The Dangerous Mind of Aelwyn Abernant is the tenth episode of Fantasy High: Sophomore Year.
Recap[]
"Last we left off! Our Bad Kids, teenage heroes at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy, have been on a quest, their spring break to retrieve the Crown of the Nightmare King. Their quest has brought them to Bastion City, the pirate city of Leviathan, to Kei Lumennura, the land where horny elves, teen elves, are sent to be banished, and our friends are now heading to Calethriel Tower to rescue Adaine Abernant from the clutches of the elven government. They have some elemental pylons that they've found and been trying to dismantle, and also Adaine has just triggered some kind of auto warning from Arthur Aguefort about fucking with his students. Low and behold, we return now to the world of Spyre and the continuing quest to retrieve the Crown of the Nightmare King!"
"So, we are in the forest of Fallinel. In the valley before you, you observe the tall tower of Calethriel. This is of course the Bad Kids, your associated hirelings and hangers-on. And the two elemental pylons that you know are powering the tower are, there's kind of a rubbly old tower far up on a ridge, and there is a small plume of smoke coming from like a smithy or some kind of small wood burning place off in the woods, a little bit closer to Calethriel Tower. Last week, you guys had made kind of a loose plan to spread off in those different directions."
Synopsis[]
The Bad Kids finalize their plan to break Adaine out of Calethriel Tower. The Bad Kids decide to split up themselves and the hirelings into three groups: the first and second groups would go take out the two pylons that power the magical defense system of Calethriel Tower while a third group goes to Calethriel Tower to rescue Adaine. Fabian, Riz, and Gorgug decide to take out the smoking pylon while the the hirelings were directed to take out the second pylon. Fig and Kristen decide to go with Ayda to rescue Adaine. Gilear is told stay behind with The Hangvan. Ayda casts Invisibility on herself, Fig, and Kristen and flies them all towards Calethriel Tower.
At Calethriel Tower, thunderbolts begin to streak across the sky. Time begins to slow immediately after Kir pressed the "way of pain" button on Arthur Aguefort's warning message. A rift opens in front of Adaine and reveals Aguefort on the other side, who just woken up after receiving a notification that someone had pressed the "way of pain" button. Adaine tells Aguefort that both she and her sister Aelwyn were being held captive by the elves of Fallinel at Calethriel Tower. Aguefort quickly springs into action - he climbs out of the rift into Calethriel Tower and then jumps out a window from the tower. As Aguefort falls, he grows into a three hundred foot giant of himself and grasps the sun in his hand, siphoning the energy of the sun into his veins. Aguefort declares war against the elves of Fallinel, summons an army of terra-cotta Arthur Agueforts forward, and charges to the north with his army away from Calethriel Tower, dragging the sun across the sky with him.
The Bad Kids are stunned by Aguefort's sudden appearance in Fallinel. Ayda is taken aback from seeing Aguefort and wonders if he noticed her. Kristen responds to Ayda, saying that he most likely didn't see her. Fig responds to Ayda by saying that Aguefort didn't notice her because of the skilled level of her Invisibility spell. Ayda thanks Fig and felt appreciative that Fig gave her a sincere and kind compliment to her. Ayda picks up on flying herself, Fig, and Kristen towards the tower.
At the tower, both Kir and Angwyn watch in horror as Aguefort marches to the north. Kir runs off to warn the Fallinel government of Aguefort's approach. Angwyn asks Adaine if she knew that Aguefort planned to attack Fallinel and Adaine lies, claiming that she knew that Aguefort was going to do that. Angwyn believes Adaine's lie.
In the woods, Riz, Fabian, and Gorgug are Naruto-running towards the smoking pylon, deciding to hurry towards the pylon during the ensuing chaos. As the group arrives, they see that there is a large, elven smithy with a huge, bright pit containing the source of the magical energy powering Calethriel Tower. At the corners of hexagonal smithy are three silver braziers burning coal, three elven statues holding huge pitchers of water. In the center of the smithy is a deep fire pit with a helix of magical energy.
An alarm sounds. Riz destroys the support for the second pitcher spilling the water and turning the pit fire red. The second elemental Gorgug attacks, but Fabian uses the opportunity to douse Riz. The fire in the pit is starting to flicker and flashes of light through the window suggest that the others are doing damage to the other pylon. Gorgug destroys the elemental and Fabian douses him. Fabian decides to smother the remaining brazier and dances over with with the elven blanket. The elemental emerges anyway and Fabian wraps it with the cloth. The elemental is surprised enough at being drawn into a dance and swaddled that it doesn't fight them. Riz releases the last pitcher and douses the pit, extinguishing it and releasing the ties that bind the elemental to the forge. Taking on a more elven appearance as it fades it kisses Fabian as it departs, leaving a mote of it's essence within Fabian.
The group approaching the tower itself see that it is ringed with a wall. They see one of the elf maidens retreat into the tower. Fig disguises herself as Arthur Aguefort in case that is useful later. Enchanted plant guardian emerge from enchanted doors shortly before the doors disable from lack of power. Four of them enter the tower. The group invisibly fly up to the window where Adaine is trapped her orb and Fig casts shatter on the window. They are met by guardians, Kir and Angwyn who enter through the door. Fig's attack is deflected by the real Angwyn and hits Adaine instead. Adaine messages her sister to tell her that they're leaving. Ayda deflects an attach from Angwyn. Kristen summons her spirit guardians, a bunch of philosophy students, her attack on the guardians is successful. Kir successfully suggests to Fig that she leaves, although Ayda dispels this effect. Adaine is still helpless in the orb, but sends Boggy to help those outside. Kristen fails to cast blindness on Kir but succeeds on Angwyn. Kir fails to banish Kristen. Ayde dispels the orb, at Adaine's request she leaves to room to help Aelwyn. Adaine attacks the nearest guardian and slaps her father. Fig casts shatter on the guardians. The guardians retaliate. Adaine casts chromatic orb, poisoning Kir. Angwyn dispels his own blindness, then turns invisible. Kristen tells Kir she's on the wrong side and banishes her. One of Kristen's grad students dissipates one of the damaged guardians. Aelwyn is freed by Ayda. Adaine hears her father attempting to flee down the hall and casts a fireball after the sound blasting loose a freeing a scrap of flaming robe. Kristen attempts to use her dance ribbon to gracefully repel down three flights of stairs and fails miserably, breaking her concentration on the banishment spell keeping Kir out of the fight. She heals some of her own fall damage and casts zone of truth on the area around the vault door.
Adaine and Fig take fire damage from Kir before banishes her again. Fig grabs Adaine and dimension doors into the vault which is temporarily bereft of magical protections due to the destruction of the pylons, she runs to guard the door anyone invisible who might be fleeing. Fig guards the door while Adaine finds Fandrangor, a glowing enchanted sword that is indignant that it is being used for its light rather than its utility as a weapon. The vault door opens and Fig swings and hits the newly visible Angwyn who falls unconscious to the floor. Kristen heals her compatriots in the vault and finds a religious tome in the vault. Ayda joins them and warns them that they need to flee before Kir returns. They find Adaine's mothers research in the vault inside is a document that reveals the of the temple her mother is searching for, which they recognise from the pirate library. They damage a gem that destabilises the tower and flee, leaving Adaine's father to be buried under the rubble. Reconvening with the other teams at the Hang Van, they teleport to Fabian's grandfather who recognises Fandrangos as he was the one who made it.
Kristen sends a very expensive message to Jawbone via Ayda because she doesn't know what to do about Tracker. Fabian decides to dance through the night rather than sleep. Adaine and Aelwyn go into a trance together. Fig apologises to Ayda for impersonating her father. Kristen gets a message from Arthur Aguefort who is badly injured after overextending himself. The government of Solace is mad at him for unilaterally attempting to topple the government of another country and somehow moving the sun. Jawbone is there as he was the one she wanted a more direct way of talking to Kristen.
