The Friendship Section is the seventh episode of Fantasy High: Sophomore Year.
Recap[]
"You see, you see, gang, the Bad Kids are a group of adventurers from the Aguefort Adventuring Academy, you can see it right here. The preeminent high school for heroes in all of Spyre. And their spring break is being spent doing their sophomore year project for 60% of their grade, which is retrieving the Crown of the Nightmare King. That quest has brought them to the pirate city of Leviathan where they've met certain allies, such as Garthy O'Brien, the half-orc aasimar, and tender of the Gold Gardens, and they also have met some enemies, including Captain James Whitclaw of the Crimson Claw, the illithid pirate, an old rival of Fabian's father Bill Seacaster. While our intrepid heroes, most of our intrepid heroes, were busy uncovering a little mystery of potential infidelity on behalf of one of their hirelings and Fig's mom Sandra Lynn. Fabian got up on his own and was having a feast with the followers of his dad, warlocks of the multi-level marketing cult of Bill Seacaster, a bunch of broke warlocks that are now almost all dead."
"We ended up seeing Fabian Aramaris Seacaster bloody and suspended from ropes at the bottom of Crow's Keep after having been cursed by Chungledown Bim, and abandoning young Alistair Ash to the clutches of Captain Whitclaw. We also later saw some horrifying dreams of the souls of those warlocks going to hell. And we had some fun with Fig impersonating Jamina Joy as her and Gorgug rocketed at close to 200 miles an hour."
"And finally, we ended with some really troubling news. Fabian ended up in the ocean after failing some Wisdom saving throws, because the sleep had been interrupted, the moon haven did not last long enough to cover everybody. Murph, as Riz, had a terrifying encounter with Kalina, the Shadow Cat, who eventually pulls information from Riz concerning the fact that Ragh Barkrock had spilled the beans about being able to see her. She threatened to kill Lydia Barkrock, Ragh's mother, back in Spyre, and our intrepid heroes headed out the next morning, having recovered Fabian from the sea, to head to Crow's Keep with a note from Garthy O'Brien to find their friend, a woman named Ayda Aguefort, in the library of the Compass Points in Crow's Keep. You guys have suffered some pretty harrowing defeats. It is a new day, as Baxter, the Hangvan, and the party trundle off towards Crow's Keep."
Synopsis[]
After receiving a note from Garthy O'Brien, the Bad Kids visit Compass Points Library to find Ayda Aguefort and learn the Sending spell. When they first meet Ayda, Fig mistakes her for the creature Arthur Aguefort agreed to make for her. The gang is very interested in Ayda's backstory and finds her direct behaviour to be bewildering and fascinating. Though she admits that she finds the group bothersome, Ayda admits she is also fascinated with the questions and knowledge they bring. She proclaims Gorgug to be the greatest wizard of the age and that his uncluttered mind is beautiful.
Ayda agrees to teach Adaine the Sending spell for 50 gold pieces per spell level. Whilst Adaine learns the spell, the rest of the bad kids wander around the library looking for interesting books -- all except for Fabian, who along with Ragh goes outside to examine the damaged Hangman. Ragh tries to comfort Fabian, who is still shaken by his recent defeat, but ends up getting upset over the unknown fate of his possibly dead mother. Cathilda then tries to comfort the boys.
Inside the library, Adaine offers to be Ayda's friend, saying that she does not have any wizard friends. Ayda admits that she desperately wants a friend and accepts. Adaine then offers Boggy for her to hold, and Ayda freaks out over the cuteness of the frog.
Using the newly learned Sending spell, the group messages Arthur Aguefort, asking him to protect Ragh's mom. Arthur scrys them and tells the group that Ragh's house and his mom's body was already destroyed. Ragh is distraught, but Arthur tells the group that he had secretly secured Lydia Barkrock's real body in an underground bunker, and that the destroyed body was only a clone onto which Lydia's consciousness was projected. After confirming that Arthur cannot see Kalina and telling him they met Ayda, the Bad Kids hang up on their principal, complaining that he really should get better at talking to children. Ragh is bewildered as to whether his hugs to his mom over the years counted. Fig insists that they are, hugging the gem with Gorthalax inside to prove a point, but ends up crying. This causes Kristen and Ragh to go into sniffles, which triggers Adaine, who wails that her parents never loved her.
The group then starts questioning Fabian, who has been very subdued ever since his devastating defeat. Eventually, they get him to recount the fight at the Crow's Nest, dissolving into hysterics and repeating Chungledown Bim's threat. The Bad Kids try to get him to pull himself together, casually insulting Gilear in the process of their pep talk. To make him feel better about himself, Fig brainwashes Gilear to make him believe in himself.
Cathilda tells Fabian that his father loved him even when he was a little defenceless baby with no ability to fight for himself and that with her children having died before he was born, she also sees him as a son. She tells him that Captain James Whitclaw attacking him alone and threatening him is unacceptable and that he will pay.
They arrive at the smouldering ruins of the boatswain says that Captain James destroyed it in order to become pirate king. She emphasises that she has no desire to get involved with politics or become king. At Gibbety Square the crown has already been removed from the corpse of the last king. Proceeding to The Row and The Ruction, perpetual brawl and gunfight that takes the place of legislative arguments in the pirate city. Captain James is already there and preparing to enter The Row. Cathilda, in full pirate garb, threatens him. Captain James summons three elven agents who are there to kidnap the oracle and take her back to Fallinel.
