The Hedge Maze is a temporarily sentient Hedge Maze which houses the Crystal Heart in Through the Hedge Maze. The only PCs to interact with it are Andhera and Chirp.

Background

The Maze was born as a blade of grass.

Relationships

Prince Andhera

Andhera is one of two people to talk to the Maze, the other one being Chirp. Andhera is kind to the maze, initially tries to ask them what they want, and they reply psychically that they want to find the one who is worthy. Andhera explains their plan to the Maze, then while he is waiting for Mucky to appear, he allows them to feed off of his memories and thoughts, and promises he would never shit in it. The Hedge shows him Suntar and reminds him that no-one from his family has gotten the crystal heart before due to his mother's refusal to engage with the Bloom. The Bloom doesn't necessarily want him to persue it, the hedge just gives them that information. When talking to Chirp, The Hedge Maze recognises Andhera by the name "Pillar Boy". The Maze listens to Andhera attentively even when he talks out loud to himself for no reason. When Mucky forms, Andhera tells them that the Hedge is their friend, and tries to stop them from setting the hedge on fire or eating it. He continues to trust the Maze to choose who is the most worthy of the heart.

Corporal Blash

Corporal Blash took a plant affinity potion, allowing them to receive Intel from the Hedge Maze to pass on to Hob.

Lady Chirp Featherfowl

Chirp is one of two people to talk to the Maze, the other one being Andhera. Chirp befriends the Hedge Maze in Through the Hedge Maze, who is very excited about the idea of causing rivalry between Suntar and Andhera, and tells Chirp she looks incredible, They then show Chirp Suntar, allowing her to cast "slow" on Suntar for her own entertainment, and the Hedge also trips Suntar with a vine because "I like you". The Hedge then builds Chirp a garden seat with blooming flowers, before warning her that there are two people in the maze looking for her; Lady Sylmenar (a lady in waiting to Queen Titania of the Seelie Court), and Caw (Chirp's fixer). Chirp takes a twig from the Maze in order to be able to contact the Maze again, which pains the Maze because she tugs it instead of cutting it, but the Maze is okay with it as she enjoys Chirp's company. The twig turns itself into a kind of bluetooth earpiece, after which the Maze tells Chirp that it will only be sentient for another fifty-eight minutes. Chirp and the Maze both become emotional at their friendship being cut short, and Chirp asks the Maze to tell her their whole life story so that Chirp can write it down and immortalize it as a children's book.

Rue took a plant affinity potion, causing the Hedge Maze to bloom with peonies as they walked by.

Suntar

Chirp casts Slow on Suntar in order to foster sibling rivalry between her and Andhera for Chirp's own amusement, and the Hedge also trips Suntar with a vine because "I like [Chirp]".
