The Rat Grinders are an adventuring party of Juniors at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy.

Background

The Rat Grinders, originally named The High 5 Heroes, are a party that formed in The Bad Kids' freshman year. For three hours after every day of school and for nine hours on Saturdays and Sundays, they gradually increase their prowess by defeating extremely low level enemies like rats, spiders, and twig gremlins. This is where the name Rat Grinders comes from. It is well known around school that they hate the Bad Kids.

History

The group that would become the Rat Grinders was initially called The High 5 Heroes and consisted of the six students who formed the party in their first year at Aguefort Adventuring Academy. Those being Kipperlilly Copperkettle, Ruben Hopclap, Mary Ann Skuttle, Ivy Embra, Oisin Hakinvar, and Lucy Frostblade. Kipperlilly came up with the name The High 5 Heros, and when Oisin and Ivy wanted to change it to The Rat Grinders, Lucy was the only one that stuck by Kipperlilly with wanting to keep the old name. Ruben and Mary Ann both voted for the name change, Ruben because he saw how much it upset Kipperlilly and Mary Ann for undisclosed reasons, making the change official. The group went to the Mountains of Chaos for their Sophomore year spring break. However, in the two weeks after finals and right before the end of the group's sophomore school year, Lucy died under mysterious circumstances. As yearbooks had already begun printing for that year's graduation, a piece of loose paper was placed in the in memoriam section of the books stating that she was added after the printing.

After her death, the group specifically requested that Buddy Dawn, a cleric of Helio who had moved from Highcourt to Solace during the summer between sophomore and junior year, be their new cleric.

Trivia

• In freshman year, after The Bad Kids fight the corn cuties we see Vice Principal Goldenhoard speaking to the newly formed Rat Grinders.
• All the of the six current members of The Rat Grinders acts as a gender-swapped counterpart to one of The Bad Kids, and at times also a character foil.
  • Kipperlilly Copperkettle and Riz Gukgak: both academically focused and overachievers.
  • Ruben Hopclap and Fig Faeth: an emo musician with a hit song of the summer, and a punk rock musician whose tour was canceled and has not written any new songs for her new album.
  • Mary Ann Skuttle and Gorgug Thistlespring: both soft spoken barbarians. While Mary Ann is complacent with her role, Gorgug wants to expand his horizons and multiclass.
  • Buddy Dawn and Kristen Applebees: Buddy is a product of the life in the church of Helio that Kristen left behind.
  • Ivy Embra and Fabian Seacaster: both multiclass fighters.
  • Oisin Hakinvar and Adaine Abernant: both wizards that come from wealthy backgrounds, though Adaine renounces her parents for being evil.
