The Ravening War was a large, vicious war between the six nations of Calorum that sparked the creation of the Concorde and began an age of peace.
The War[]
In the Year of our Bulb 1188, conflict between Vegetania and Fructera began when Count Jacques Tomaté, a Fructeran noble, was by birthright next in line for the throne of Greenhold. This conflict would lead up to the start of the war in 1190.
Over the course of the war, leaderships and alliances fluctuated. Although Candia and the Dairy Islands became powerful allies by the end of the war, they did not start that way, as King Jadain of Candia entered the war significantly later than other nations. When the Dairy Islands called on Candia for assistance, King Jadain decided not to honor their alliance, a move that many Candians disagreed with. His brother, Duke Joren of House Jawbreaker, decided to take action and went against this ruling, making Joren and his house traitors. As rebellious as this move was, however, Candia's assistance was instrumental, and the Dairy Islands are forever grateful.
As Tomaté attempted straddle his positions and spread his influence too thin, Fructera's leadership began to crumble. Archmage Lazuli of House Rocks, in the wake of the death of her mother Queen Pamelia Rocks, used her magic to find another ally in Fructera to overthrow him. She found it in a young Gustavo Uvano, and sacrificed herself in battle in order to secure his position as ruler.
The war ended as Imperator Focaccia of Ceresia was defeated outside of the city of Pangranos by the emperor's Fructeran nobility, King Amethar and the armies of Candia, and allies in the Dairy Islands. The killing blow was an arrow shot by Gustavo Uvano.
Casualties[]
Many citizens of Calorum perished in the fight, including King Amethar's four sisters: General Rococoa, Saint Citrina, Archmage Lazuli, and Princess Sapphria. Lazuli was the first of the Rocks sisters to die, sacrificing herself in battle to put Gustavo Uvano into power. Next was Sapphria who was assassinated on a secret mission to Carn in order to try and gain a political alliance with the Meat Lands. Citrina was killed in the streets of Vegetania attempting to broker peace with King Belvedere Cabbage, which her martyrdom ultimately achieved. Lastly Rococoa fell during the final Battle of Pangranos. Before all of them, the assassination of Queen Pamelia Rocks is what brought the, until then neutral, kingdom of Candia into the fighting to begin with.
Pax Calorum and the Concorde[]
After the end of the war, a Concorde was reached: the Emperor of Calorum would be Gustavo Uvano. As part of the new Pax Calorum, all nations would levee 20% of their taxes and a full half of their armies to the empire. This was made in order to maintain peace so that no kingdom would have the strength to rise up and go to war with any other without every other nation being called by oaths sworn under the light of the Bulb to protect their allies.
The Bulbian Church[]
In the wake of the Ravening War, the political influence increased substantially. Prior to the war, it was mostly contained to Vegetania and didn’t really have a foothold in the Meat Lands. Afterwards, however, its influence permeates everything to do with the Concord, since oaths are sworn on their holy book, the Book of Leaves.
