The Sword of Veritas or just Veritas is a sentient sword with a high moral compass who believes in telling the truth.

Description[]

The Sword of Veritas is a sentient sword with a high morale compass towards truth telling and has the magical ability to see through lies and illusions; this was instrumental in revealing the horror of the Stepmother to the Wicked Fairy.

Veritas seems to be connected to Rosamund's story as it reacted brightly with her and even agrees with Aesop in never telling lies.

Its current stats are +1 to attack and damage rolls, can gain the 'True Strike' cantrip and 'Blindsight' at a range of 10 feet.

History[]

Trouble in Tuffeton[]

Veritas was found in Muffet's Web by Gerard when looking for any living people in the cave.

The Trials of Baba Yaga[]

During the chore given to Gerard from the Baba Yaga, he is met with a reflection of Rapunzel who tells him how hard it is for his wife, Elody, to say anything good about him. She then challenges Gerard to ask the Sword of Veritas if Elody still loves him. He replies that the princess, "Cares for [him] deeply," to which Rapunzel laughs that that's not quite the same thing. Veritas later espresses a kind of remorse for feeling like he had been manipulated into hurting Gerard.

Trivia[]

  • Pinocchio got a Nat 20 when severing his strings with Veritas when being attacked by The Stepmother.
  • Because of the connection with Rosamund, it is possible that it is the 'Sword of Truth' used in the Sleeping Beauty Disney film. But it is also possible that it is based on the archetype of magical swords.
  • Veritas is Latin for 'The Truth' or simply 'Truth'.
  • According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, there are stats and/or effects on the sword that would only become known when they use the Identify spell.
