Description[]
The Vulture King is a massive, hulking, but otherwise standard-looking vulture who resides in the Vulture Dimension. The Vulture King is intelligent for a bird since he knows and speaks Common but doesn't tell the most clever riddles, nor does he know or seem to care what kind of deific being he may or may not be.
Background[]
Every vulture in Spyre is a descendant of the Vulture King. He can see through the eyes of all of his descendants.
History[]
Vulture Clash[]
Following several interactions with vultures during battles over the past few years, Kristen Applebees interacted with yet another Suspicious Vulture during the Frostyfaire Folk Festival in Junior Year. Upon speaking to the vulture, it transported them to The Vulture Dimension, where they meet the Vulture King, and he immediately demands that they answer a multiple-choice riddle or be destroyed. The Vulture King forbids any use of spellcasting and gives them the choice of either one of them answering for the group, or all of them answering unanimously and simultaneously. His riddle was "Vultures: Yay or nay?" The Bad Kids simultaneously answer "Yay" and pass the riddle of the Vulture Dimension. The Vulture King then commands his descendants, saying "Vultures! Birds of carrion! Gift to them my royal artifacts!" His descendants proceed to rip the Vulture King's body apart into the magic items listed below. It is unclear if this act has permanently killed the Vulture King.
Magic Items[]
The remains of the Vulture King were turned into the following Royal Artifacts:
- The Feather of the Vulture King: Breaking this oily feather summons 1d4 vultures. They are not under the command of the user.
- The Tongue of the Vulture King: Eating this tongue grants the ability to talk to animals.
- The Skull of the Vulture King: This body part can be worn as a helm. It grants advantage on all Deception, Intimidation, Persuasion, and Insight checks if posed by vultures, and grants disadvantage on all of those skills when posed by non-vultures.
- The Eye of the Vulture King: Eating the eye grants Truesight for one minute.
- The Gizzard of the Vulture King: Eating the gizzard heals a creature for 3d10 hit points.[1]
- Unnamed items:
- The Vulture King's Rotting Entrails: Takes a bonus action to eat and grants immunity to fear.
Trivia[]
- Can destroy his enemies by shooting poison from his body, screaming, and then ripping them apart with his talons and beak.
